Panama 08/17 With Andrew Derek

Thanks andrew.

Now, nobody laugh!!!!;) 2 Q's

Who is Ally and AJ ????

Also is the princess tea party only on the long cruises?

Ally and Aj are Platinum selling recording artists who star on the Disney channel,

Saturday morning 31st, my wedding anniversary, just passing by the Turks and Cacaos islands on the Atlantic side, at Grand Cacaos, this morning at 8am. The sea is a bit more active than yesterday’s glassy conditions and a bit more cloud around. Yesterday the seas looked a deep blue that you associate with the Caribbean and the Bahamas, today it’s more just looking at breakers and waves. We passed Puerto Rica

Last night we had our evening meal in Palo and dinner was fantastic, I had the soup, pasta made with prime rib, the steak with blue cheese very good, then the pana cota and a chocolate scuffle. Accompanied with a great Martini cocktail and the after dinner drink they give you.

We were there at 6pm, and saw sunset from our window table. The Captain and officers were having a meal in the Private room, with some cruisers, Including Cat 1>3 and a couple of people I recognise.

My kids had their meal in Parrot Cay and as it’s was pirates night most of the cruisers had dressed up, and did a parade around the dinner room themselves. My kids were dressed up and looked very good indeed. They had their picture taken with Captain Jack Sparrow later.

The crew talent show was very good, with for example Guest services doing Thriller starting in the audience, a lady kids counsellor, played the piano on stage whilst her photos of her experience on DCL from starting to all the ports of call where shown on the big screens, it was quite personal and very good, we saw the Med ports of call last ear, Mexico and Panama this year, Disneyland parks, and volunteering to help kids and charities.

Pones gave us a great song, well sung, he joined the cruise staff after a staff crew talent show picked him up, before that he had an engineering job, He was a formal Philippines star, on their version of American / Pop Idol.

They also included three dances with the officers that included Christian doing a dance, and even Don Duck Williams.

Pirate deck party was well attended and people again had made a great effort in their costumes, one I liked was a lady dressed up as the redhead on the ride, (We want the redhead!)

Of course after the good characters danced the pirates took over, then Mickey saves the day and we have the fireworks, with the sea calm and the night sky very clear it was a great show.

Today is the last sea day, we have disembarkation talks (boo) we have the bingo with a jackpot of over $20k now, so that’s the WDT full then and the pools empty at 10.30am!

Captains Gala dinner, dessert buffet, tonight, with Disney Dreams. So not much more time to report anything more.

Sunday is Castaway Cay and we are told we are going there and there should be any problem, but subject to the weather conditions. So Sunday is busy busy busy, we need to pack as well and also see the till we meet again show Sunday night.

Last night the Shops and WDT Preludes area was completely closed off, it said for a private function, possible a rehearsal for something coming up, but interesting to see it all closed up and the doors next to the Atrium to the shops closed.

Kids were coming along yesterday knocking in doors asking for our star guests, it’s an open secret where they area, but it would be nice for these teenagers to have some control and respect.

Starting to really notice the waves now, it’s a bit more choppy and active than the last few nights though not as bad as the Pacific side.

Thanks once again for taking time to write, I am sad for you that it is coming to an end(till the next time:thumbsup2 )
Enjoy castaway cay:cool1: hope the weather isok for you! Lynne

I was trying and failing to do something like this, what an amazing WdAnvsry

I'll add my thanks for your time on this wonderful report. I so wish I was there but am thankful for your updates. It sounds like Disney pulled out all the stops for this cruise. Wow!

One thing: when you return, would you be willing to "tell" where Aly and AJ were staying? I don't want anyone banging one their door before debarkation but I'd love to know where DCL puts up their "star" performers.

Happy Anniversary :lovestruc Andrew
It sounds you have had a fantastic cruise. You taking time to tell us all about it is so much appreciated.
Those stir crazy kids sound a bit of a nightmare though...probably too long being cooped up for some, despite the size of the Magic and all the effort put into entertainment!
Are you off to the Bingo then :rotfl:

I think my sister is on your cruise...I didn't read your entire thread...do you have to change course getting back to FLA due to the hurricane? I am due to pick them up on Monday from the airport. Enjoy the rest of your trip...fingers crossed for safe seas!

So the end of our last sea day before going to Castaway Cay all day tomorrow, firstly the course correction we went around and out to the Atlantic and not the Jamaica and Cuba route to avoid the tail end of the hurricane, whilst the seas have been more active today in the Atlantic, we have had a good fairly sunny day and avoided any problems, Hanna we are told is far behind us and CC is ok.

Today there was $30k Jackpot bingo, and won in the 4pm session, the top decks were empty in the morning and afternoon when the Bingo was on- I do not play it.

We had Don Ducky Williams sign our lithographs and the queue for that was rather long again, and had some drinks in Cove Café to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, some nice Dissers have given us cards in our room for this.

Now we cannot say who our next door neighbours are, but concierge look after them a lot, and that room was vacant from Panama day, not sure why it became vacant but we noticed on Panama day no one used it bar our stateroom hostess. We keep getting young kids either call our in room phone or knock on the door, asking for someone else, the phone calls are getting a little annoying.

They had a a ‘boat building competition final at the Goofy pool today, I must say a lot of the entries where fantastic a lot of hard work gone into them, some replicas of the Disney magic where brilliant, but there were creative designs made from anything on the ship a catamaran from old navigators around the milk cartons you get in topsiders for breakfast and some rafts made from the sanitary hand wipe bottles from the restaurant entrances.

One person just put a couple of topsider trays together with some buoyancy stuff in the middle, and one a prize! They tested them out for who long they could float and CM’s jumped in and kids kicked the water to sink the boats.

The Captain watched intensely, let’s hope he doesn’t get ideas for the new ships, the Disney sanitary bottle ship doesn’t sound as good as Disney Dreams

Dinner was the Captains Gala they gave us cocktails in the Atrium again, then we were in Lumieres, in fact every semi formal and formal night we have been there. We had campaign to celebrate our anniversary, and the kids had their Palo Soufflé, with the hot White and dark chocolate source. Infact they ran another two off for DW and me so two nights running we had that, and I had to find space for the Cherries Jubilee.

The show tonight was Disney dreams and I love the snow in the WDT, it’s so nice in the beauty and Beast part. The Lion king song is also a great rousing part of the show, met more Dissers there and Captain Crash Tom, I think was doing his Doctor Who bit in a Tux and training shoes.

DS will get a cake Sunday night as it’s his birthday early next week when we are on our way home.

In an hour there is the Dessert buffet and I hope to go to that we will be all at CC at 7.45am tomorrow and all ashore is 8.15am, we leave for PC at 5pm.

Must remember to get my last two Pins for the cruise hopefully the Wonder left those at CC today for us.

Tomorrow is going to be busy we have to pack and there are a lot of gifts photos and lithographs etc to pack, as well as the statutory T shirts from all of the ports of call and the cruise. Excess luggage is going to be a high cost! And that’s just my belly!!!! He He.

Now some final thoughts……

If Snow White orders some extra pictures from Shutters, will she say someday my prints will come?

Going back to Columbia and going up the steep hill from the city to La Popa, it’s a hair raising experience for everyone, well bar Christian that is… I herd there was an accident between a coach driver going up the hill on the hairpins and a priest, both died and went to heaven at the same time, St Peter said the person who did the most for god would go in first, the priest stepped forward and said that’s me! St Peter said No is the DCL bus driver, as when you are in church everyone falls asleep, when the driver goes up to La Popa, everyone on the coach prays and prays and prays.

And after my dinner why did my Mushrooms go to the show? Because it was a funguy.

Talking Christian he is a very very good CD, and you can see why everyone raves about him, he is nearly always present at everything, makes great announcements, and also is hands on with issues such as queue management, he is observant, Brent for example was a problem with the queues for the tenders in Italy, nothing happened much, here any problem is often considered in advance and he pre empts it.

He is now on top of my list for great CD’s with Rachel next and then Andy who is no longer with DCL.

7.00AM Sunday.

Could get on the Dis last night even though I had an internet connection, updated…

We went to the Dessert buffet last night which opened early at 11.05pm advertised at 11.15pm, again as expected a great offering of all types of cakes, chocolate fountains ( fondue) two lines each side of the aisle of Lumeries, and very busy indeed.

WE are currently approaching CC at 7.00am we are close by the stateroom TV, I cannot see it as yet, looks very overcast and cloudy, but it is early and hopefully will burn off, Sunrise was just a few mins ago, off to Topsiders and then aim for CC, entered into the CC sunben stakes, a quick half mile sprint, but I will give the ‘hammock’ race a miss!

Monday have to collect passports from WDT at 6am breakfast is in AP at 7.00am, and have to remember to get that PIN tonight and put the pager back, and put the luggage out and….

Oh, so you had to hand your passports in. We didn't for the WB, so there must be different reasons on your itinerary.

Have a great day at CC and savour your last day of the cruise.

I'm still mourning the passing of the WB and still miss everyone.:sad2:

Andrew - can't say as I'm sorry that your cruise is coming to an end as that means my cruise is that much closer. After all, you have had a fantastic 15 days!!! I'll settle for my 7-days (this time around).

Glad to see that with all the weather, you will still be able to make it to CC and enjoy. Not sure about the next group on the 5-day.

Andrew
Thank you so much for sharing your trip. We are so envious!
Have a safe trip home and looking forward to meeting you next summer on the Tortola cruise!
