Pam's Low Carb Road (Comments Welcome)

I've switched to SouthBeach [well, sort of]. I still am finding myself with the Atkins Mentality because I think it DOES work. BUT, I am following fitday now and trying to keep the calories at around 1,000 or so. [Yes, I've been reading that 'other' board too! - Isn't Kimmer's results AMAZING!]. My carbs have been HIGH but the only thing that gets them up there is my Latte' made with skim milk each day AND on SouthBeach they say that lactose carbs are treated differently and are allowed. That's one of the things I'm following with SouthBeach. This is my 2nd week of phase one [ALOT like Atkins] and then I should go on to Phase 2. Phase 2 will slowly add back in some carbs like very high fiber breads, and fruits [I'm looking forward to having an apple]. But, I will still keep my calories averaging around 1,000. SouthBeach okays using lowfat dairy such as lf cheeses, milks, etc and either a lite salad dressing or Olive Oil and Vinegar. I've been saving ALOT of calories just but switching to lite dressing and lowfat cheeses or eliminating these things all together. So far it seems to be working for me.

We'll get down this road we may just have to keep tweaking the path that we take.:sunny:

Hey Jody, you are so right. The hardest part sometimes is to decide on a plan you can live with. I'm so glad you decided to give SB a try. (I know you love your latte's ;) ) As for me, I can't give up my butter, reg. dressings and reg. cheese. :rolleyes: :D We all have to find what fits us best (like a good pair of jeans :teeth: )

So far so good. The kids had swimming lessons this morning, with another homeschool family, and on while on break, they sat around eating crackers, cheese, pepperoni, fruits...............I sat there and had my 1/4 apple and peanut butter with water!! I must say I was pretty proud of myself.:angel: Heehee.

Now it is 3:30 in the afternoon, and I feel pretty good. Last night when I got a little "empty" around 8:00pm, I took my 4 psyllium husk tablets (for fiber) with a glass of water and then I had a cup of herbal tea. I think it did the trick and I might do it again tonight.

Good luck, Jody, with SB. You've been very persistent and I admire that!::yes:: :hug:

WOW! I lost another 2 pounds!! And TOM is due at any minute. I had a long day yesterday and I walked at the Y with my friend for 35 minutes, so at 9:20 last night, I was in bed. Boy did that feel good.

When we came home from church last night I wanted the brownies that were left over (I made them for my 2nd-3rd grade class), or cheese, pepperoni,..........ANYTHING! It's funny, I wasn't really hungry, but it is habit for me to eat something when I come home on Wed. nights. Well, I had a cup of mint tea, spent some time on the computer, and then went to bed. Whew!! It was a close one!:smooth:

Today we have a big day. This morning the homeschool group is going bowling, then to Pizza Hut for Book-It. I have to come home and clean because my mother is coming today at 5:00 and tonight I am going to a baby shower. Yikes! I better get moving.

I am going to order the salad bar at Pizza hut and I am going to bring a little cut up chicken in a baggy for my salad. This is probably a little tacky, but I don't know what else to do. Except for bacon bits and cheese, there isn't any protein on the salad bar and I am trying to stay away from having more than an ounce of cheese a day. Oh well, I figure I worked at Pizza hut for 3 years a while back, and I saw a lot worse than that!!:)

I am once again not deducting fiber off of my carbs or any sugar alcohols if I should have any.

Breakfast - two hb eggs, water

Carb = 1

Lunch - lettuce, pepper, 3 oz chicken, cucumber, 3 tbl. dressing

Carb = 8

Didn't get a snack today. :(

Dinner - 5 oz chicken, asparagus, sour cream, salsa, TORTILLA WITH CHEESE SAUCE :mad: I'm going to have to estimate the carbs on this one.

Carb = 40 Yikes!

TOTAL CARB = 49 :(

:sunny:

It is so refreshing to start my day by reading your Journal entry Pam! I can tell that you are in the right mindset to accomplish this goal and I am SO HAPPY for YOU!

You Go Girlfriend! :tongue:

You have a great attitude going! Keep up the good work. With your busy day today be sure to get in some water!! Hope you have a great day!

YAHOO you lost another 2 pounds!!!!!!! You go buddy!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: And just think that's with TOM coming, just keep up the good work and hopefully you get a nice big woosh!! Great job not eating anything last night! The nights are my worst time. It seems like from the time I get home from work I just keep eating as I make dinner, than I eat dinner and I always seem to want a snack after dinner, no wonder I'm not losing any weight. It seems like your idea of planning your food for the day is really working for you, I'm going to have to try that too. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking some chicken in to Pizza Hut with you, there have been times when I've passed up a salad bar because there weren't enough protein options on it.

Keep it up buddy!

Cheryl:sunny: :wave2:

:wave2: Hi Pam. Congratulations on the two pound loss. Just wanted to wish you a happy Friday.

Well, last night I gave in to a tortilla!! :mad: :mad:

I made a new recipe for my family which was a chicken type casserole that you layered tortillas in. I made myself some of the chicken and put sour cream on it and salsa, a perfectly wonderful meal. So what do I do?? Eat that PLUS SOME OF THEIRS! I will not be making that recipe again unless I am out of the house for dinner that night and my family is home. Yikes! Toooooooo much temtation for me. I need to go add some carbs to my menu for yesterday. :mad:

OK. I'm over it, it's done. I am on track for today. My mom is here (part of the reason for the casserole last night.......wanted something nice for her ). It's always so wonderful to be with her. We are closer now than we even were when I was little. It's amazing how your relationship changes as you grow older. Now we are like best friends instead of just mother/daughter. I pray my two girls want me around as much as I want her around. I have to sing at a funeral on Saturday. A friend lost her mother..............that will be hard for me I think. With my father gone, I don't want to think about not having my mother. Oh, well, I can just live in "denial-land" while I'm singing. You know, I LOVE denial land. :teeth: It gets me through a lot. I'm just kidding! :)

I need to think about what I'm going to have........hhmmmmmmm.....I need to be extra good today! I think I might cut out my fruit. Most days I spend some of my carbs on them, but today I need to be very low in carbs.

Not deducting fiber grams again.

Breakfast - 2 eggs, mint tea, splenda
had coffee later in the morning with cream

Carbs = 3

Lunch = lettuce, 3 oz tuna, 3 tbl Newman's Own Italian Dressing , 1 oz cheese

Carbs = 6

Dinner - 6 oz Salmon (mom brought this. Isn't she Nice! :teeth: , 4 steamed fresh steamed brocc. spears

Carbs = 8

4 slices lime in my water- total for the day.....

Carb = 3

hot tea later w/splenda

Carb = 1

TOTAL CARBS = 21

:sunny:

Hey buddie, just a quick hello :wave2:

Don't worry about that tortilla! You did a great job getting your carbs back down yesterday!!!

I hope you got through today OK at the funeral. That must be soooo hard to sing at the funeral of a friend's mother. A good friend of mine's (?spelling?) mother is 82 and she was just admitted to the hospital again yesterday and everytime she gets sick I get scared for my friend that her mother might die because I know how hard it is going to be on her. I know none of us will live forever but it is so very hard to lose a loved one and to see a friend lose a love one. I just keep praying though and that helps. So I ws keeping you and your friend in my thoughts and prayers today.

Have a good Sunday! :sunny:

Cheryl :wave:

Pam, I'm very interested in how your experiment will turn out! It's looking good so far - congratulations on losing 2 pounds! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I hope the funeral went OK - always hard to see people hurting and missing someone dear to them. I can't imagine singing, too, but I bet you did just fine.

Keep up the good work!! :sunny:

Hey ..................I lost another pound. Yaaahhhhhh!!! I can now claim my 10 pound clippie!!
:bounce: :Pinkbounc :tongue: :hyper: ::yes::

:cool1: OOOOOOOooooooo I feel soooooo goood!!

OK, that's enough of that. :) We need to keep our wits about us. :teeth:

My DH just finished being in a big Easter production this weekend (4 performances and more than 3,000 people attended) and he is taking a half day off today. So, I am taking everyone out to breakfast this morning. I think I'll have eggs and bacon and coffee. Yummmm!!! Especially when someone else makes it and cleans the dishes. :tongue:

I don't think I have ever felt this "on" as far as this WOE goes. I have been very good with carbs before but never good with carbs AND low in calories. Plus, I have stayed away from anything "fake", too. No shakes, no bars, no sugar alcohols and limited diet soda. Since I keep my calories low, I am SO picky about what goes in my mouth.

I hope I can keep this up. I feel so good and I have even been waking up earlier.......like 6:00, which is unheard of for me. I am REALLY tired at night, and I fall asleep in a matter of minutes, but I start stirring about 5:30 am. I am just in shock!:earseek:

Cheryl......................thanks for praying. The funeral was beautiful. I didn't know her mother and after all of the praise about her, I feel jipped that I didn't get to meet her. But I will someday. ;) Singing went well. I almost lost it though when my friend really started to sob in the middle of the song. Her mother was a K teacher for about 40 or so years and the one line in the song is " Remember me, when the children leave their Sunday School with smiles"..........oh, she lost it here. But I kept saying to myself, "I sang at my father's funeral and didn't break, I'm not going to break here."

It was a busy, busy weekend. I don't think I want to repeat that for a while.

Now for today..........................

Breakfast - 2 eggs, butter, bacon, coffee, cream

Carb = 3

Lunch - lettuce, 2 thick slices turkey lunchmeat, 2 tbl. Newman's dressing, 1 tbl. flaxseed oil

carb = 6

Dinner - 4 oz hamburger, 2 tbl. salsa, 1 tbl. sour cream, 1 cup green beans

carb = 7

TOTAL CARB = 16

:sunny:

That 10 pound clippie sure looks great on you!!! I had one of those busy weekends as well.. Hopefully this week will be nice and relaxing. Hope you have a great Monday!

Went to bed last night at 9:30 and didn't get up until 7:00. Boy, do I feel good. :cool1: Since I have been in deep ketosis, I have noticed that I will have say, three days where I get awake at 5:30/6:00 and then maybe the fourth day, I will need 9 hours of sleep. But overall, I can't believe how my sleeping hours have been cut down.

Last night after dinner I felt stuffed. I had a total of a little over 1,000 cal. ALL DAY yesterday, so I didn't eat a lot. It's amazing after doing this for a while, that you actually don't need a lot to eat that will fill you up. I've been doing well on the water and have cut down to around 2 diet sodas a week. THAT is a major feat for me. :teeth:

I have started adding organic flaxseed oil to my diet everyday because of the Omega 3's and 6's. It adds 110 calories but it is packed with such good stuff that I don't care. :)

Today should be a nice easy day, except for a lousy dentist appt. tonight.

Well, off to the races!:moped:

Breakfast - 2 hard-boiled eggs, mint tea, splenda

Carb = 2

Lunch - lettuce, 4 oz. tuna, 1 tbl. Newman's dressing, 1tbl. flaxseed oil

Carb = 5

Dinner - 4 oz hamburger, 1 tbl. sour cream, 2 tbl. salsa, 1 cup green beans (left over from last night, no need to waste them! :) )

Carb = 11

Snack - 1/2 apple

Carb = 9

TOTAL CARB = 27

:sunny:

Well, yesterday was a bust. I ate everything and anything. Yikes, what was I thinking. OK. back to basics. Today is going to be a great day.

I start the Mother's day challenge on Monday. Can't wait. These challenges keep me on my toes. I chose 18 pounds for a goal. I know that is high. But if I aim high, I might end up pretty well.

Today is a new day! Sounds like you have a great plan for the day! Hope you have a great Friday!

Pam I feel terrible - ypu got your 10 pound clippie and I wasn't even here to congratulate you.

Well CONGRATULATIONS !!! That is so wonderful and that 10 pound clippie looks fabulous!!! Keep up the great work!! Don't worry about yesterday, that happens, boy do I know that well ;) . It looks like today you're back on plan and doing great. Remeber we can do this and downward we go!

I see you mentioned something about the Mother's Day challenge, with being away from the boards alot this week I must have missed that. I'll have to look for it and maybe I'll join too if I'm not too late.

Have a great day and congrats again on that new clippie!!!!! :sunny:

Cheryl:wave: :wave2:

Don't feel terrible, Cheryl. Your my bud, I know you celebrate with me. :) Life just gets hectic once in a while. OK, sometimes more than once in a while for me. :rolleyes: :)

I was getting close to getting my 15 pound clippie, but have royally blown it at the end of this week.

Last night, we all go to get Chic. BBq at the Shar-a-thon. Well, the chicken BBq is Sat., NOT FRIDAY! So.............the whole family is hungry and we are half an hour away from home, in this small town that only has a Pizza Hut or a Chinese rest.. We pick the chinese rest. because the same people own this rest. who own the one near us and we love the one near us. Well, THIS rest. (a buffett, just like the other one) has crab legs, so it cost $12 more for our family than when we eat at the other one. Yikes!! And you know how limited a selection it is for Atkins at a chinese rest. :rolleyes: . So I blew it. I mean, I really blew it. And I feel terrible this morning. DH said we will never go there again. Good riddens!!

I'm afraid to weigh myself. When the challenge starts on Monday, I will probably have to lose a few pounds to get back to my April fools challenge weight! :rolleyes: Ugggghhhhh!!!! Why do I keep doing this. I lose 10, gain 5. Lose 3, gain 2. Arrrrrrgggggg......Groooowwwwwwlllllll!!

OK. Focus. focus. What was I saying to someone on this board just the other day?? It's not what you do 30 days of the year, but what you do 335 days a year. OK. :crazy: Time to swallow my own medicine.

This morning I started out with some egg salad. I feel like just having lots and lots of water today. I can't imagine the sodium count from last night. I'll be retaining water for a week! :eek: :p
I'm going to stay away from the scale until Monday when I weigh in for the Mother's day challenge. I WILL STAY ON PLAN ALL WEEKEND!! I WILL STAY ON PLAN ALL WEEKEND!!

I'm so glad I can come here and vent. Sometimes you just have to give yourself a lecture in writing. ;)

Onwards and downwards, folks. It's back to the plan! :teeth:
