So, what's your take on Gwyneth Paltrow's view that celebrity moms have it much harder than "office" moms?

"I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening. When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set,” she said.

14 hour days? Blasphemy! When we're short staffed or someone calls off, we all know that management is going to say "we don't need nurses for the next shift" instead of mandating me (and others) into a 16 hour shift. Finding childcare for those extra 8 hours is a breeze and I find a ton of comfort in knowing that I'll be in bed by 1am only to have my alarm start beeping at 5:30am. The icing on the cake is that us "office" moms get to do this year round.. no 9 month hiatus for us!

Life is so rough for her :sad2:

I do not take anything she says seriously she has no idea about reality.

Sounds like she's never lived in the "real" world with a real world paycheck for our real world jobs.

Is she the one that I saw on daytime tv talking about her diet and the food in the diet for a week was all more expensive than my monthly grocery bill?

Yep. Just googled her and her diet. It's the same one.

I've seen celebrity moms on TV saying they bring their kids with them to the set. And they have a trailer they sit around in all day until it's time for them to do their scene. They go do the scene and go back to their trailer. Then they have the nannies and chefs and housekeepers running the house. And for all this they are paid millions....yup...must really suck.

Poor thing. She really suffers. It's too bad she can't use some of her hard earned millions to buy some basic human empathy.

I agree. She is super out of touch. I read a couple of her newsletters for Goop. It's like a joke. She has no idea how normal people live.

Yes, Ms. Paltrow, and when we get done with our "routine" jobs we are chauffeured home to our mansions where our Nanny has bathed our children, our chef has prepared our meals, our private tutor has helped with homework, and our maid has cleaned and completed our laundry. Delusional!!!!

She should get together with Tom Cruise, they'd be a perfect match. ;)

I keep thinking there must be somebody out there who is interested in hearing Gwyneth Paltrow's opinions on food, parenting and family life because otherwise why would all those publishers and media people keep putting out books and articles and interviews under her name?

I don't know who these people are that actually listen to her because I've never met one myself. But they must be around somewhere.

She does an okay Pepper Potts but otherwise she's about as interesting and engaging as a day spent at the DMV trying to get my license renewed.

I read a blip where she offered her elbow to a journalist who wanted to shake her hand.

Someone is very full of herself.

Well..........I would like for her to trade with me. Like wife swap. Celebrity/commoner swap:rotfl2: Let her see if it's worse or better. I'll be first in line. Two weeks verses 365 days per yr (less vacation).....Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

I really think she is so out of touch with what a normal work day is like for most women. She comes off as arrogant and superior, it's hard for me to not roll my eyes at anything she says or does.

It doesn't sound like you have and "office" job. :confused3

When I did, it wasn't exactly a breeze, but I can see where she's coming from. Up, drop off baby, work, leave, pick up baby, make dinner, go to bed/repeat. I never had to worry about them sending me off somewhere, and if they requested overtime I was able to say no and leave. I was just a lowly secretary. I understand that everyone has it different but for me it was not difficult. I used to work in newspapers so I could say the same thing about being a reporter vs. office job - so much easier to be a mom with a 9-5 job than work whenever as a reporter.

Can we all just agree to consciously uncouple from this ridiculous, self-absorbed twit?

I think you were lucky you felt comfortable saying "no" and leaving. It's great your employer was ok with that, no negative consequences. There are lots of moms who couldn't. They don't need a bad review that sort of implies they aren't hard workers and/or team players. They are very concerned about keeping their jobs because that money is critical to their family's existence.

hallie - I think you're right, Cruise would be perfect for her...except I think they may have a religious issue. I think she follows Kabbalah, although I'm not interested enough in her to know for sure. Just thought I read something about that in one of the many internet articles about her recent "conscious uncoupling."

I don't think there is a more insufferable "star" out there. Goop. Snort.

I think there are different kinds of hard situations. For her to say her situation is harder in light of the choices and money she makes when other moms don't have that range of choices, it makes it hard to swallow.

Jamie Lee Curtis and other actresses chose to stay closer to Hollywood in order to raise her family. G.P. has that choice too.
