i think that guy looks fine....at first I thought you had found my photo online, but I am MUCH better looking

BUT, the slippery slope rule is not to be denied no matter WHERE it starts.....
jus' sayin'....
it's hard to change the minds of us old guys .....pass the oleo, please. My wheatabix is getting soggy

I live in jeans. They are definitely the easiest, most comfortable, maybe even the most flattering thing I wear. They match everything. I have definitely dressed jeans up before, and they look great with a $300 jcrew blazer or a silk shirt, mascara, lipstick and $200 strappy leather sandals. But they are not dress up. They will always be a bit rodeo, which is great, but so sad that there are no places left for those who want to dress up and be around others also dressed up. What will happen is you will start to feel awkward wearing your cocktail dress to Palo because everyone around you will be dressed in football stadium suite chic. Another thing about jeans is people do not wash them as regularly as other clothes. They often have a smell. They will wear on the furniture. The light color leather in my car is tinged denim from my wearing jeans. They are ultimately working clothes. I get it. It is Disney's choice. No problem. But I can have an opinion regardless. I don't like that they removed Mr. Toads from wdw either.

Saturday night DH and I celebrated our 40th anniversary at one of the nicest restaurants in Phoenix. Several high schools had prom that night so we saw some lovely teens in floor-length gowns. We also saw people casually dressed. We see the same type of mix when we go to a professional musical theatre performance. People wear what they want and it doesn't change the quality of the food, or the on-stage talent.

Cost does not dictate style or class so not sure why it is important it is a 300 Jcrew Blazer and $200 sandals.

I for one still wear my cocktail dress when the men in the family are in the jeans/blazer combo. I don't feel out of place and they don't either. I wish I had a picture of my brother in laws jeans because you wouldn't know they were jeans unless you asked him. We actually fought with him that they weren't jeans the first time he wore them because they look like khakis. Nope just high quality denim in a darker brown. He was comfortable and not one person at the restaurant we were at would have thought he was out of place.

Good point.

In March I had tickets to Newsies, I wore a dress. Attire ranged from men in suits to men in nice denim. There was a time where you would never have seen a man in jeans at a Broadway show. But it's happening a lot more now, and none of the men I noticed looked "sloppy" or "rodeo".
I also attended a Lea Salonga concert at our Music Hall recently, I'm 38, so not at all young, but was on the younger demographic there, and although there were less men in jeans than at Newsies, there was still a handful.

The problem is that some will think these look good. Clean no holes.

I read a post in this thread that describe a male patron wearing a Hawaiian shirt in Palo. It has a collar and buttons down so it meets the dress code, right? So put the Hawaiian shirt together with the jeans pictured in post 172. Is that acceptable attire for Palo? Really?

Regarding the picture in post 176, I would venture to say that 0% of men wanting to wear jeans would even consider wearing the dress shirt (buttoned at the collar), tie, vest and coat.

I'm wondering how many will complain that they can't wear T-shirts with their jeans..or sports shoes, etc. And the picture of the professional model in jeans, coat and tie....will not be what you will see at Palo. If men looked like that in jeans I'll eat at Palo every brunch and dinner. :D

I'm glad Jeans are approved in Palo, and I find it humorous (and slightly concerning, if I'm being honest) that so many are SOOO offended by the change. Personally, I've eaten in places much, much nicer than Palo and jeans are pretty much always appropriate. Does this mean I pretty much always wear jeans to dinner? In Tucson (where I live), you bet! On a cruise, maybe not- but that's because dresses take up less room in my luggage and I only do carry-on.

Class has absolutely NOTHING to do with what you are wearing, and more how you carry yourself and behave.

An Aloha shirt with a tux and no tie was acceptable in Remy, so yeah. An Aloha shirt is acceptable for Palo, jeans or no.

I am not sure why some in the pro jeans group have decided that those who do not support jeans at palo are elitist? As though wearing jeans is a political statement? Maybe it is for you. For me, getting "dressed up" is about removal from reality. I like Disney because it takes me into another world. Disney specializes in taking you to another time and place. Imagination. Etc etc. Jeans are everyday. As I said I love jeans. But jeans have a gross factor. And they definitely have an everyday factor. They remind me of Frontierland. Woody and Jessie. Not Palo!! Total clash. Why does Disney pay attention to every detail if details don't matter? But it is obvious that Disney has listened to the loudest voices on this.

I agree with other posters about regularly eating in venues more upscale and with better food than Palo and wearing and seeing people wear, good jeans, appropriate footwear and tops. These are places where closing out the bill for two is several hundred dollars and the food is award winning.

I think it is the overall look of the outfit, quality, cut, texture, etc of the clothing as well and appropriate fit are what matters the most. Wearing a 20 year old suit that bulges and doesn't button looks much worse than a put together denim look, in my opinion.

You cannot just go by the description of clothing.

ETA: As much as some people are upset about others wearing jeans, I have the same reaction to seeing people in what others call "dress clothes." Things like ties from 1992, suits old enough that they are actually "shiny", old braided belts etc.

I can, with my skewed outlook on life, see this as being a money move. "Look at us! We may be 125% more expensive than Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, but you can wear your dungarees to dinner, whereas they require you to <gasp> wear slacks and a polo! To heck with business casual! Isn't convenience a great reason to spend exponentially more of your money?" :P

I always have to laugh when talk of jeans comes up. It seems if you pay $$$ then some feel they are better than Levi's, Lees or whatever. Denim is denim and always will be. I guess the definition of dress jeans is the cost and the sparkled pockets. Oh wait, brand name, too.

It is not uncommon to see people (myself included) wearing jeans, vneck T, and a sport coat when going out. My go to date night attire is a designer dark denim jeans, a nice Ralph Lauren Vneck, and a nice Ralph Lauren sport coat. The look is dressier than khaki's and a dress shirt, trendy, and what fashionable people wear in the year 2016 ;)

Ummm... Its true the same Millennials that brought Pabst Blue Ribbon back from obscurity have also made Levi's also popular again, but to think that designer denim feel/wear the same as a pair of Lees/Levi's is ... misguided :rolleyes1

No, not about the brand name. It's all about the fit!
Several years ago when 'designer jeans' gained popularity..(back in the 7 for all mankind and Juicy days) It was like OMG FINALLY DENIM THAT FITS!!! I'm not exaggerating unfortunately. I'm 5'7, that's not tall, but add a pair of 3.5-4" heels and what happens? Most Levi's would be wayy too short.
Also, for those of us that aren't blessed with a curvy figure, finally jeans fit our hips and thighs and other parts correctly, and flattered said parts. And for the curvy girls- the new jeans hugged them in 'all the right places'lol.

I think this was more of a revolution for women than for men at first, and then men's jeans also started to become better fitting, more flattering.

Denim was no longer ultra casual, but now able to be dressed up, dressed down, different lengths/fits/colors...and seen everywhere.

I dont agree that "jeans are jeans". I have jeans that I wear to the parks, and jeans that I'd wear out to dinner. Completely different. I liken it to a dress that can be thrown over a bathing suit, vs. a cocktail dress. Both are dresses, right? But completely different.

Anyway, I highly doubt there will be many women in denim. I think for men Denim is the next best option after a pair of nicely fit dress pants.and almost always a better look than khakis

I'm sure you look very "fashionable" and very nice for the city. I wear jeans, I like jeans, but won't wear them at Palo even with "fashionable shoes" or a "fashionable silk blouse" (own jeans but not the shoes or blouse). I see what you are saying, but most people that go to Palo will not be "fashionable" like you. I can possibly see jeans and a nice shirt at brunch but that is it.

Phinz posted a picture of himself wearing a purple shirt and a Haunted Mansion tie that looked very '"fashionable" for a Disney Cruise...imo.

Count me in with the slippery slope group.

I enjoy Palo for the adult (well 18+ rule) and the (former) expectation of dressing a little more formally than the MDRs. Oh, and the souffle.

Now how many comment cards with "my child will be 18 the day after the cruise, please let them in Palo?" will it take to topple that rule?

And while I understand that some 17 year olds are "just as mature" the fact remains that adult dining does have its fans, even on a Disney Cruise Line ship.
