Doing one of my favorite things and shopping for vacation clothes! I have fallen in love with this Free People romper....

Do you think it's acceptable to wear for Palo brunch? I know what DCL lists on their site, and yes it technically has shorts on the bottom. But do you think it could pass as a dress?? This is our first time doing the brunch so I just wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks!

It's cute. If it is long enough to pass as a dress, why not? If you can see the shorts, probably not.

Honestly I think you'd be totally fine. It looks dressy enough. They're going for maintaining a certain feel for the restaurant. I don't think they would call you out on a technicality.

Seems like it might be a bit short. Do the shorts show at all? I'm not sure I'd call it a dress, though. Seems more like a beach coverup.

I like it, though. Harkens back to my hippie days.

Maybe you could wear it with some dress slacks?

What "technicality"? The "no shorts" thing? Also included in the dress code is "no capris" and I've seen women in capris sent to change into something "more appropriate".

The only places onboard DCL ships that the dress code is enforced in any way are the adult dining venues. I hope that doesn't change.

We did Palo Brunch last week. I wore a dress and husband wore dress slacks, dress shirt and tie. Every woman there was wearing a dress. Most men had on a tie, if not, then a jacket. I'm glad I wore a dress, wasn't going to at first. I thought Palo Brunch was going to be a bit more casual, but it really wasn't. At least that was my experience. Saw a couple going to Palo Brunch towards end of cruise, they asked us for directions, the were really dressed up. I think that romper is really cute but just worried about the length. Like I said, every woman there was wearing a dress, at knee length (give or take).

If it ends up looking like a really long tunic and you can see the shorts then I wouldn't wear it, you would look way too casual. If the dress was a bit long you may be ok but it's already kind of a casual style as is a bit for a dress and so it therefore would really need to be an actual dress to pass the requirement - just my opinion, I think it's adorable and I really like it but just trying to give you a realistic opinion so that you don't get turned away.

The shorts are very flowy and cover well. You can't tell at all that they're shorts. I guess just the fact that I know they're shorts is bothering me...

As for the length, they look way shorter in the picture. They hit me at the same spot a sundress would so I don't feel like they're indecent or anything.

Thanks for the input!

I may be alone in my opinion but the Palo dress code states 'Dress pants and shirt are required for men and a dress or pantsuit is required for women' so I don't understand why a romper would not meet the published guidelines. A romper is not shorts at all, it is a one piece garment. The dress code serves to provide guidelines for proper attire but it simply can't be all inclusive. It doesn't mention a skirt or jumpsuit but those are obviously acceptable. Short skirts and dresses meet the dress code so I feel that a romper that is really just a short jumpsuit applies as well. I mean a jumpsuit is really just a one piece pantsuit after all. That romper with a cute pair of wedges and the right earrings would make a great statement in my opinion and be very on trend right now.

Probably because anything that has separate holes for the legs to come through, and is shorter than ankle length is considered "shorts" regardless if it's attached to the shirt part of the attire or not.

By the way @mmouse37 - good point!

Here's my 2 cents, since you asked. Why cause yourself stress? If you pick an outfit that is *clearly* in the dress code then you don't have worry at all about being chased down and told to go change. Could you push the envelope? Sure - just be prepared that if the maitre'd interprets your outfit on the wrong side of the line, you will have the memory of being sent away and only you can say how embarrassing/annoying/etc. that will be. Would it ruin your experience? Is an argument over dress code interpretation part of how you picture your special time at Palo? Why flirt with the hassle? Yes, its a cute outfit......it really doesn't matter which way the internet fashion critics and the internet-wanna-be lawyers vote on the matter. At the end of the day it will be up to the staff and they WILL deny someone entry over their wardrobe choice. I've seen it everytime we've been (5 times total).

That aside, I've never seen anything that short in Palo and I agree with an above poster that the sleeves look like they would be a hassle at the food stations.....

Wear it. If anything qualifies as a skirt with under protection. Lol

I agree that the sleeves look like they will be bothersome getting food from the buffet.

Definitely an agree to disagree situation as shorts and rompers are indeed different articles of fashion, no different than a short dress. And I have to say I mean no disrespect to the ladies pictured in the first post above with pictures of the buffet but they are clearly wearing simple knit tops, maybe even t-shirts, so I fail to see how that is more appropriate than this romper that is both dressier and more stylish.

I have to tell the truth though, the dress code posts are always a bit entertaining for me. I will never understand the need to wear formal attire on a cruise ship for a meal in a tropical environment when I've been to many fine dining establishments in the Caribbean as well as Michelin restaurants in Europe where less dressy yet stylish attire is what is worn by guests enjoying $300+ meals. That said though, I may disagree but we do always dress to meet the established guidelines for where we dine. Seems as though I have a different opinion of what that is in this instance, however ;)

Agree 100% with this. It's a cute outfit but not something I've seen at Palo and I would suggest something more formal.

I always wear a dress slack and blouse; husband wears a dress short or polo shirt, no tie. Heck, they don't even require jackets for dinner anymore.

I wouldn't be able to eat with those sleeves much less get food from the buffet.
