Palin on SNL

I have no use for Palin as a VP candidate but I thought she did just fine on SNL. I thought the first skit was funny but not great. I thought Amy outdid herself on the rap and Sarah seemed to go with it very well.:thumbsup2

Just a bit OT, but did anyone else see the edges of the picture cut off? We don't have a fancy high-def flat screen TV (mostly due to very high vet bills this summer) and the edges of the picture were cut off like it was formatted for a high-def TV instead of a "old fashioned" TV. We have DirecTV if that makes a difference.

Wasn't it reported that SP had repeatedly called the show asking to be on it?

yes, Fey confirmed that when asked on Letterman Friday night.

the whole show was pretty boring - wish I hadn't stayed up........oh well!:)

I thought the opening was cute, but that Update was hilarious. I was literally howling in laughter when the 'Eskimos' and Todd came out. And then the clips of Sarah bopping next to Seth and raising the roof... oh man. Too funny!

I DVR'ed it and just watched it. I thought I was going to die when "Todd" came out during the rap. Amy Poehler was hysterical. I was actually embarrassed for Palin. That show has not been kind to her :lmao:

Overall, she really didn't do anything. The skits were good but not because of her.

The moose getting capped was hi-larious! Actually Amy Poehler was hilarious. Palin was simnply "there", but seemed a good sport.

That's normal for a non-actor. SNL has plenty of experience writing around their hosts - athletes in particular come to mind. Years and years ago when Jesse Jackson hosted, the funniest stuff was by the cast but not him.

I do think they need to let her go on Letterman though like McCain and Dave were talking about when he was on. They need to let her out so people can see the authentic Sarah Palin (and not the scripted "authentic" one). Based on interviews of her I've seen of her prior to her VP pick, I think most people (save the liberal partisans) would actually find her intelligent, interesting, and engaging.

I agree. I remember seeing Bob Dole on Letterman right after the election and thinking to myself, wow, he is completely different than I had him pictured. He was funny, engaging and I wondered why he didn't do the appearance before the election was over.

I find funny that no one but me seems shocked at the "You're dead 'cause I'm an animal!" line on the rap segment (when she "hunted" the "moose"). When I heard that I went  (couldn't find a "jaw dropped to the floor" smilie).

I couldn't believe they said that to her face.

I am not a hunter but DH's dad was. I quickly found out that hunters get a kick out of what non-hunters perceive they do.

Although I have no interest in hunting, I no longer regard all hunters as from another planet. DFIL didn't go into the woods guns blazing and shoot every fawn in sight because it made him feel bigger and badder, but until I figured that out...well, DFIL had a blast letting me stereotype him.

Hunting is a way of life in Alaska and I'm sure that moose fed the family for a few days. Sarah Palin is probably used to us Lower 48ers' silly assumptions.

Hmm..I thought she really fell flat. Maybe it was the writers...but she could have at least tried to have a little more fun with it--poke fun at herself a bit more- Have some fun with it! She should have done part of the rap.... There is a teleprompter...not like she has to come up with everything on her own.

In terms of keeping dignity during a campaign-- both McCain and Obama poked fun at themselves and each other at the roast the other night. People appreciated seeing another side of them

I loved Biden poking fun at his gaffe's during the opening of the Leno show last week. He was hysterical.

Palin - she was ok. I thought she was a good sport with all the bashing.

Tina doesn't like her so I don't see that happening at all.

The animosity between the two as they passed each other "on stage" was almost palpable. And I don't think it can be completely contributed to good acting.

I read a quote from Fey (to TV Guide) that " if she (Palin) wins...I'm done. And by "done" I mean I'm leaving Earth."

harsh.

I'd like to think they can get past their political views. Seriously, we're reading way into that.

What does this mean? She's going to start a colony on Mars? :confused3

I'll help her pack.
