Palin breaks with McCain on gay marriage

If we're going to support Colin Powell for breaking with his party, she deserves to be respected for her opinion as well.

Of course we respect Sarah Palin's ability to hold her beliefs. She is entitled to her opinion.

However, that is very different than Colin Powell breaking with his party and endorsing Barack Obama. Colin Powell is casting a vote for a political candidate.

Sarah Palin is discriminating against an entire group of people.

And that is disgusting.

You're exactly right. He had no choice though, well, he had plenty of other choices as VP candidates, but he had to please the base. In this case, the base is tickled with Palin, but like you already mentioned.....she will go down as one of the primary reasons that he'll lose. That's how he lost me.

As for Sarah speaking her mind.....I say let's hear it, all of it, no matter how narrow-minded and frightening it may be. Now that she's come clean about what she'd do as president with respect to gay marriage, let's hear some more. How about her thoughts on creationism being taught along with honest to goodness scientific theory? Stem cell research. Roe v. Wade. Let's hear it Sarah!

The more Sarah owns up to her true thoughts and feelings....the more she'll scare the bejesus out of independents and swing voters.

Someone in the campaign needs to pull her aside and mention to her that she already *has* the base vote.....

My parents LOVED McCain. Before my dad died in March, they had donated a decent amount of money to his campaign. My dad had high hopes he'd be the next president. So did my mom. She voted for him in the primary election. She's made additional donations to his campaign. Then, he announced Palin as his running mate.

My mom is now voting for Obama. I am sure there are others like my mom.

And I don't understand why people think that Obama's personal beliefs won't influence his decisions when a bill passes his desk.

Oh, there are definitely conservatives who are voting for McCain because of Palin. But it is amazing how many are running away as fast as they can from him because of her too.

Of course they can have someone representing them. Nobody said they can't. I would just hate to see a right-wing wacko one breath away from the Presidency. I respect the power and responsibility of the President too much to vote for someone like Palin. Hopefully the majority of voters agree with me.

I do not know anyone that isn't voting for McCain/Palin because McCain picked someone that is too far to the right. I think most people expected it. The problem for everyone I know is WHO he picked. She worries a great many people and her views on gays, abortion and stem cell research are the last thing most people are concerned about when it comes to Palin.

I have been reading that you are in favor of amending the United States Constitution to forbid marriage between two people of the same sex. Before we start the process of amending our constitution, something by the way that has only been done 27 times in the 232 year history of our great nation, I have a few questions about this "marriage" thing for you.

You see, even though I have been in a committed relationship for the past 16 years, I myself have never had the opportunity to experience this marriage thing. So I am curious.

If I do get a divorce, should I serve my partner the paperwork when he is in the hospital, like Mr. Gingrich did?

If I choose to remain single, can I still get married three times like Mr. Limbaugh has?

If my partner is in a serious accident, and I meet a new partner who is prettier, younger, and who has a lot of cash, can I ask for a divorce from my first partner like Mr. McCain did?

And if I decide to have children, should I wait until the child has been in the womb for two months to get married like you may have? Or should I just postpone the wedding till after a big election like your daughter will.

I'm just curious, because as I have stated before, this marriage stuff is all new to me.

He's doing OK so far, but I think part of that is because his positions of late have been closer to left of center than far left.
