Palin breaks with McCain on gay marriage

Dear Mrs. Palin,

I have been reading that you are in favor of amending the United States Constitution to forbid marriage between two people of the same sex. Before we start the process of amending our constitution, something by the way that has only been done 27 times in the 232 year history of our great nation, I have a few questions about this "marriage" thing for you.

You see, even though I have been in a committed relationship for the past 16 years, I myself have never had the opportunity to experience this marriage thing. So I am curious.

It still is one man, one woman, till death do us part right?

The saying "first comes love, second comes marriage, then comes the couple with the baby carriage" is that just a ryme, or is that the way it's supposed to be?

How do you explain the 50% divorce rate in our country?

Can you please then explain some of our "conservative" leaders, who themselves have married multiple times........

Was Jane Wyman just a screen test for Ronnie before he met Nancy?

If I do get a divorce, should I serve my partner the paperwork when he is in the hospital, like Mr. Gingrich did?

If I choose to remain single, can I still get married three times like Mr. Limbaugh has?

If my partner is in a serious accident, and I meet a new partner who is prettier, younger, and who has a lot of cash, can I ask for a divorce from my first partner like Mr. McCain did?

And if I decide to have children, should I wait until the child has been in the womb for two months to get married like you may have? Or should I just postpone the wedding till after a big election like your daughter will.

I'm just curious, because as I have stated before, this marriage stuff is all new to me.

Thank you for your time!

You are right, their personal opinion never plays into weather or not they sign a bill into law.

With a liberal Congress, it would be unlikely to even make it to the floor. Wasn't it Clinton that signed the Defense of Marriage act?

None of the candidates from either party are advocates of gay marriage.....look it up if you don't believe me.....

Q: Do you support, as they do in Alaska, granting same-sex benefits to couples?

BIDEN: Absolutely positively. Absolutely no distinction from a legal standpoint between a same-sex and a heterosexual couple. That's only fair.
Q: Would you support expanding that beyond Alaska to the rest of the nation?
PALIN: Well, not if it goes closer and closer towards redefining the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman. And unfortunately that's sometimes where those steps lead. I don't support defining marriage as anything but between one man and one woman, and I think through nuances we can go round and round about what that actually means. I'm being as straight up with Americans as I can in my non- support for anything but a traditional definition of marriage.
Q: Let's try to avoid nuance. Do you support gay marriage?
BIDEN: No. We do not support that. That is a decision to be able to be left to faiths.
PALIN: My answer is the same as his and it is that I do not. Source: 2008 Vice Presidential debate against Sen. Joe Biden Oct 2, 2008

Sadly that is probably way too many words for Ms. Palin to be able to absorb.

Nope. But Biden/Obama support gay rights on EVERY single issue other than the word marriage. You see, they actually think that I should be able to have rights to my own kids even though I like girls--gasp!

McCain is AGAINST gay rights on EVERY single issue except a *federal* marriage amendment (and has actively campaigned to ban marriage, civil unions, and perhaps even domestic partner benefits at the state level). And Palin it seems is against gay rights on every single issue including the federal marriage amendment.

There is NO comparison.

I think Bill Richardson was the only Democrat who flat-out said he supported gay marriage during the primaries. Look where that got him.

Palin's record regarding gay rights is definitely alarming:

According to ontheissues.org

Non-support of anything but traditional marriage. (Oct 2008)
Vetoed bill denying benefits to gays, as unconstitutional. (Aug 2008)
Comply with same-sex partner benefits despite disagreement. (Dec 2006)
Marriage only be between and man and a woman. (Nov 2006)
Special legislative session on same-sex health benefits. (Nov 2006)
Ok to deny benefits to homosexual couples. (Aug 2006)
No spousal benefits for same-sex couples. (Jul 2006)
Top priorities include preserving definition of "marriage". (Jul 2006)

But thank god she's tolerant. :sad2:

I would type up my response...but someone already did it for me. But, good job on the "research."

Yup. Poor Bill. We love him here in NM. Okay...some of us love him here in NM. ;)

Why shouldn't the conservative base have someone representing them?

Perhaps because one of the main goals of the "conservative base" is to deny all familial rights to an entire group of people? :confused3

If the base wanted to deny parental, relationship, and anti-discrimination rights to any other group of people (blacks, whites, Jews, Catholics, Mormons, red-heads) would you think it was appropriate to choose a vice-president who was willing to fulfill those desires?

Jon Stewart did the funniest montage of the debate when he said he supported gay marriage. He followed Bill's answer with a scene from Caddyshack. :rotfl:

This is a matter of opinion....and as such, we all have them. IMO there is not much distance between the candidates when it comes to gay marriage or rights (uh, what extra rights are we talking about anyways?).

I don't see Sarah Palin standing between you and your children at all. If she was, I would oppose her. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness after all.

I saw that. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well crapola. I'm with McCain on economic issues, but this could be a deal breaker for me.

Actually, that lack of distance has hurt him. This will be the only area that Palen helps McCain. Its funny people can't see that, when its that social conservitive\family value crowd that elected a buffoon President....twice

Well, we do know some of the GOP doesn't see Muslims as Americans. :rolleyes1

Sarah Palin is certainly entitled to her opinion. Imposing it on a section of society based on her religion is another story.

The McCain-Palin ticket is definitely Dumb and Dumber. He supports robo calls but she is against them.:confused3
