New to the Disboards and I haven't seen anything on Pal Mickey. I noticed him on WDW's site and wondered about him, what he does, what he costs and is he worth it?

. Pal Mickey is available to all guests as a purchase of $60 (that's $56.33 plus tax; price subject to change).

Using infrared technology, Pal Mickey not only knows where he is in the parks, he knows where he's been, so he doesn't keep repeating the same information," says Linda Conrad, one of the Imagineers who worked on the toy. A sample of what Mickey might say: "I hear Belle is over in France about now. Let's go say hi!" If you miss what Mickey said, and want to hear it again, press his hand or tummy within 15 seconds and he'll repeat it up to five more times.

He’s 10 ½ inches tall. He's easy to tote around. I attached him to my fanny pack.

For WDW beginners, he would make a great tour guide: talking about the rides, noticing the details, and getting a seat early for parades and shows

He eagerly "vibrated" to alert me that he was ready to begin talking. And talking and talking. Mickey was quite a chatterbox telling me about the animal life in the Oasis, quoting bits of trivia about DinoLand, and talking about attractions as we passed. After entering MGM Studios, he was instantly acclimated. He eagerly began his chatter about the park.

Decided to take Mickey for a ride on the Tower of Terror. While entering the queue, the two Cast Members working chuckled, "Oh, he likes this ride. He will have plenty to say after exiting it!"
After exiting, sure enough… Mickey was chattering away!

The Cast Members instructed me to make sure Mickey was "facing forward" when entering the turnstiles at the parks. Apparently, a sensor in his nose was capable of receiving downloads as to what park he was in, etc.

Coming in May 2005, a "Happiest Celebration on Earth Special Edition" Pal Mickey will be introduced. In addition, a Pal Mickey costume line will debut in the summer of 2005.

Approximately 25% of his content will be updated, including new attraction lines (Stitch, Soarin', Expedition Everest, etc.), interactive trivia questions that have replaced many of his jokes, several additional games, sing-a-longs, updated character greetings/shows and a new look (costume and packaging). They are also working on a lanyard-carrying device.

Wow, he does sound like fun. I love tour guides. Guess I'd better get myself a Pal Mickey for my trip. :) Thanks for the info!

He does sound cool. I'm think about getting him for my dd who will be 2 by the time we take our next trip. I think she will enjoy him but the price is kinda steep.

I have a couple questions maybe someone knows.

Does it have a pretty high volume so that you can hear if its busy?

Does it have a function to repeat things he has just said?? I'd be afraid we'd miss what he was saying due to noises around.

We will be in at MK on May 6th so I hope the new one will be out by the time the Celebration begins. Does anyone know for sure the new release date? I would love to have him waiting in our room when we check in, my ds would be excited.

We are staying at the GF Con. level and the CM that I talked to there about my request said "no problem". I wanted to have a gift for each ds ages 5 and 2 when we checked in. I think they will both love Pal Mickey!! ;)

My DS (9) has 2 pal Mickey's and is planning on buying a 3rd one on our next trip, he plays with it all the time, you don't have to be in Disney to play with Pal Mickey. He tells jokes and plays games besides the Park info that he has, we are a little upset that Disney has not come out with a Pal Minnie ! My DD would love one. also $ 60.00 is not a bad price, I spend that on water bottles at the parks :rotfl2:

Actually if you look at my signature you'll see Pal Mickey at my son's feet, he goes everywhere with us.

I am so excited about out trip in May, the 1st thing I want to do is buy this Pal Mickey.

So here are some of my questions:

1) Do the All Star Resorts have these in their gift shop?? If not, where in Magic Kingdom can these be purschsed?

2) Lets say you are in a hurry while he starts to shake and you don't have time to listen to him. If I don't push his hand, will be tell me about it the next time I walk past that same thing (Since he is programmed not to repeat??). I just want to make sure he tells us everything and we don't miss out on something he has to say.

3) If I give him to my neice a few weeks after our vacation. Will Mickey tell her all the things that he told us? or is there a way to get him programmed to start over?

4) Have they come out with something to identfy your from everyone elses (ID Tag)? If not, what have others used to identfy your from everyone elses?

Thanks, I'm so excited!!!

We got a Pal mickey on our last trip and although I thought it was kinda expensive, it turned out great. my daughter thought he was magical!! he knew where he was, she was amazed.... He was hard to hear in the parks sometimes, but, we just held him up to our ear and we heard just fine. he will repeat several times so each person can hold him up to hear him. Great fun to see what he is going to say next.

Zoesmama03 - we had one for DS (2.25yrs at our last trip) and he was way too young for it. Mickey was too hard for his little ears to understand, and when we were walking around the park, he was more interested in everything around him than what Mickey was saying. If the price is kinda steep for you, skip him - it will be one less thing to keep track of in the parks!

Well my dd already understands most things I say. But I think regardless she will think its funny she loves talking toys. I have a talking Jar Jar(from Star Wars) and she adores it. She thinks its the coolest thing that he talks to her. But I don't think she would understand a lot of that and $60 for us will be a lot but since we are getting air travel practically free and no hotel(staying with family 45 minutes away) it might be possible. I'm kinda interested myself in what Pal Mickey will tell us.

I just ordered a Pal Mickey from Disney merchandise directly. The number was listed here somewhere. 407-363-6200 She told me it was the new Pal Mickey. Hopefully it is the newest edition? Oh well if it isn't that will be just fine. I just wanted to have it before we went so we didn't have to lose time trying to find one in the parks. I did have to pay for shipping, but i thought it would make our wait until May 27th a little easier..............

Great! Thanks for the number. I'll be calling here shortly, and I'll ask which Mickey it is. We're also going in May.
