I have one of them Vacation Videos and on it said something about Pal Mickey (tells you interesting facts about the rides and the parks and reminds you when the parades and fireworks are). Does he cost anything? Do you pay to borrow him for the day, or to keep him? Does he work in all the parks, or do you have to get a Pal Mickey for each seperate park?

to buy Pal Mickey is $60, however you can rent him by the day for something like $8. If you rent him for a few days and decide to buy him , they'll deduct your rental fees from the price. He's available in all the hotel gift shops and in the parks, no discount though. The same mickey works for all the parks too. He's pretty cute, I got one last time I was there in Oct. and he plays games after you leave the parks.

I think that they rent them in the resorts but you can also purchase them. I think to purchase them they are around $50.00. Mickey works in all the parks and will tell you different things about the park especially as you pass certain locations. He will still work when you get home but only play game with you.

I'm just wondering if they can do upgrades on him. They have under construction Soarin, car stunt show, Stitch Encounter, and Expedition Everest how would he know about them. What about the future additions?

lol.. Pal Mickey sounds fun... How does he know which park he's in?

There is a micro chip in he nose so when you enter the park have him facing forward and he will be able to tell where he is.... My DD9 loves it even now that we are home. He used to cost 50.00 now he is 60.00.

if you are a dvc member and are staying on points you will receive a certificate for a free 1 day rental of pal mickey...we purchased one on our last trip down in july and he is a blast...the purchase price we got him for was $50...i did read that they raised the price to $60...well worth the money in my opinion...
have fun!!!

Actually the PAL mickeys work off of an infrared signalling system. The micro chip in your PAL Mickey contains all of the programming that he needs to communicate. Most of the messages are already pre-programmed. Having facing forward when entering the park allows him to get updates from time to time via the infrared transmitters at the front of the parks.

As you travel through the parks there are leterally hundereds of these transmitters all over the park that sends a signal to Mickey's nose to tell him what to say. When walking through the Safari Queue in AK you can see these boxes hanging in the rafters every so many feet.

They did recommend to us when we bought ours that anytime we come back from being away for 2 or three months that we should stop at any shop and have them update the software in PAL Mickey. They are chaning all of the programming from time to time.

They program them with a simple IPAQ Handheld that they point at Mickey's nose.

I have been curious if anyone has been able to make a program that can send new programs to the PAL Mickey and get him to say custom messages. I would be surprised if this has not happened already.:D
