We just returned (Saturday) from a visit to OKW. We rented Pal Mickey for one day with the coupon to try him out. Here is a quick report. Questions welcome.
The coupon is included in your folder when you check in. It states that you may only get a free rental once during the promotion period. Not sure how they'd track that, but that's what it says.
They will charge a refundable $50 deposit to a credit card. You use the coupon when you return Pal Mickey and show your member card (room card with
DVC member was good enough). Pal Mickey must be returned by noon the next day or an extra day rental will be charged.
Pal Mickey comes with a belt clip that he can be removed from fairly easily. I didn't have too many problems with him coming off the clip as some others have posted. You have to keep him facing out, as the antenna is located in his nose.
When he has something to say, he shakes and laughs. You squeeze his hand or tummy to have him give you the info. Sometimes it is just a joke, other times it will be relevant info to where you are. He also plays 3 games and will tell jokes whenever you squeeze him.
We took him first to Epcot. He didn't have a lot to say about Epcot. He didn't say anything to us about Test Track, but did have some things to say when we went to Wonders of Life and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.
We took the monorail over to Magic Kingdom, and on the way in he thought we were on our way out for a nap. He was the most fun at MK as he has something to say on nearly every ride. He reminds you to keep him dry when you ride splash mountain.
After touring MK, we went over to Disney Studios. Mickey was also a lot of fun here, as he makes a lot of fun comments before and after Tower of Terror.
General Comments:
Mickey was very good about staying quiet while you are in an attraction. I don't think you even can wake him up on purpose.
In D-MGM we stopped for a break outside at the end of the commisary building, and Pal Mickey went crazy. He kept going off and telling us that the lines were short at all the different attractions. We thought it might be because the parade was on, but we stopped there again later and he did the same thing. Weird. To keep him quiet, we covered his nose, and that seemed to do the trick.
We saw very few Pal Mickeys in the parks. It still is very new and all the cast members are curious too. Lots of times the cast members were asking questions. You get some funny looks from the general public, as they wonder why you are holding Mickey up to your ear and laughing.
We chose not to purchase Pal Mickey when we were done, but would probably rent him again on a park day. He does add a fun / new element. I expect that the next time we tour the parks, (probably about 16 months from now) Pal Mickey will be everywhere.
