Pal Mickey

I have one - he is okay - kind of fun and cute and has the potential to entertain a 7 year old through the park (my friends' son LOVED him) but for me traveling with my 2 year old, he was just something else to monkey with - there was a time when I didn't get him clued in to the fact that we were at a park and he just didn't do anything. User error, I know.

What are you hoping for from Pal Mickey?

We bought one for DS in I think 2003...(04?) anyway and back then you could RENT them....I don't think anymore though...

I love it. I take it every time I go whether with the kids or just DH!!!

It was pricey when we bought him..$65.00 I think....not sure how much they are now.

I really do love our PAL MICKEY

DW just bought her 2nd PM.

She bought the original when he came out and wanted version 3 so last weekend she got him. Since this is rainy season and he must have his rain gear she bought that for him and some other outfits and plans on making some.

Guess he must be worth it.

Our DS2.5 has Pal Mickey and he LOVES him. Even at home! We take him on every trip! We have the original version in the traditional Mickey outfit. Though on a recent day trip to DTD we saw they now have different outfits for him (kind of like Build A Bear). He was worth the money for us.

and will soon be getting a third. Originally the plan was to buy one for all three kids to share, but our oldest ds (who'd have thought it, he's 12yo) glommed onto him the first day - he loved all the trivia - so we wound up getting another one for the 10 yo ds. They still get them out and play the games every now and then at home, and now our dd 3 wants her own. Since we're going back in 2 days, we're thinking of bringing one back for her.

Wow, I didn't know they had clothes! Uh Oh, when dh finds out, we're in trouble...

My son absolutely loves his! We were a little nervous about it though.... He had saved up allowances and did yard work for the neighbors, etc. and was planning to spend more than half of his Disney savings on this. But he really enjoyed it and still has no regrets. We found that some of the cautions of others (he's too loud, too heavy to carry, etc) really were not issues. The park info is really cool, the trivia is fun, and the jokes are really corny and really Mickey (Why was Cinderella not very good at sports? Because she had a pumkin for a coach....).

We loved it. My son (9 y.o.) also bought the Safari outfit which Mickey wore to Epcot and AK. Mickey even autographed the safari hat for my son. We carried along a plastic bag (Mickey's 'poncho') for Splash Mountain and Kali River rapids, etc. My son says the only reason not to buy it is if "you don't like great jokes, great trivia and a fun pal at Disneyworld..."

Last fall the Budget Board had info on ordering the "old" version for thru a disney outlet in Orlando. With shipping, came to less than $25.

Only wish I had ordered more. They sell for double on eBay. If you speak Spanish, that version is priced much lower.

DS doesn't mind toting him around. He is pretty handy for info on "short" lines for attractions.

I love mine and I don't even have kids! I learned a lot from him in EPCOT and in Animal Kingdom. He has interesting things to tell about the animals and the countries that I really didn't know. He also lets you know about short ride lines and parade times. (although that can get repetitive) I bought him because I loved the idea of the technology. However, I go about 9 times a year, so the $65 was not an outrageous expense.

This is great to hear. I had thought about getting one for my daughter for when we go in December and since reading this post the decision is pretty much made! Heck, if she doesn't like it I'm sure that I will! --Patty

so its really worth the money? Also, is there an off button? (I'm worried about it going off in the middle of the night, yikes lots of mad ppl) My sister would probably ADORE this, just worried about the price and the fact that it might annoy my parents and the others in my party (.....sadly....after the trip....it might even start annoying me....)

Thanks for asking this!! I actually was just about to post a thread for this, when bam! there it was, so awesome!

There is an off switch-have no fear! I turn mine off when we leave the parks. He has a zipper up his back which will give you access to the battery and the on-off switch. I haven't had to do any battery replacement, so I don't know how easy/difficult that is.

Can one only purchase him at the parks? Or is it possible to mail order him (not from ebay, but from Disney)?

I got mine from Ebay, I wasn't able to find him online anywhere else. I know there is a site where people go to the parks, buy things and mail them out to people but that will probably cost you more as you would have to subsidize their park admission and shipping.

We bought two on our last trip. One for DD6 and DD10 they both loved them. Worth the money for us. They loved the jokes and all the info that mickey would talk about. :thumbsup2

1. Is Pal Mickey more geared towards children or adults?
2. I have a DS9. Do boys like it as well as girls?
3. Can you hang it on your stroller or do you have to carry it? I know you can't stick it down under because the nose has to be in the air . . ., but do people fix it on the top of the stroller or hang it from the handles?
4. Is version 3.0 the one with the tuxedo? Is that the latest model? Does anyone know when the newer version will be out, because we will be traveling in October after the Happiest Celebration is over.
5. Does anyone regret the purchase and if so, why?

TIA!

I found a site that will sell him for $95!!! :scared1:

I have a feeling that I will just wait until my next trip to WDW.

My DH and I have the current edition and love him. We do not have kids and love alll the corny stuff. He has made 3 trips with trips 4 and 5 coming up soon. I bought a couple of outfits last month and make shirts for him. I also get seasonal sweaters at Michael's. He sits in my work office and when I am having a bad day, he reminds me of great trips and makes me smile.
