Having a great Easter week here at OKW and while at Epcot today say CM with Pal Mickey. After getting to hold and a fast intro on how it works I was told that tomorrow Tuesday, 4/22 is the first day in parks and one of the few resorts that will be renting them and selling them is OKW! Then while in store here the nice CM told me to get back to the store early as they only will have a few hundred. The CM here said that OKW was the only resort with Pal Mickeys on the first day. Not sure as I heard two stories today. They are actually pushing buying (surprise!) for $50 as they say why rent for $8 per day. They can be used each trip and reset at the first reentry of a visit. Well, we will be up at 7 to buy one and at member update at 8am. I will let you all know how it goes. Also - saw Saratoga Springs today, it looks like an add on waiting to happen!

Be sure to post for us tomorrow after your Pal Mickey experience and let us know how the real life trial is! BTW - did they talk you into buying? Even with the DVC "one day rental" for free?

I remeber getting the info about one day free but I think I need the mailing and I didn't bring it with me. I will purchase it for two reasons - these are the first one available for public sale and that usually makes it a collectable, and we do go to the parks 20 to 30 times a year and this little pal might get alot of use! It runs on batteries! My two guys will have to share one and the alarm is already set.

If you really want to try to hold on to it with the idea of it becoming a collectible, you can't use it or take it out of the original package.

Chances are they will sell a lot of these so I wouldn't be too concerned about keeping it as an investment. Let us know how you like having Mickey tag along on your trip. :)

Well - up and at store here at OKW at 7am and got one of the first sold. Alot of extra CM's introducing program around and we had one nice CM give us three extra AA batteries when I told him we were to use this for eight days this trip. He said batteries should last 5 - 7 days. HA - try 5-7 hours. We used it for six hours at MGM and it was alot of fun. We did get alot of funny looks at not many people had a clue what we had and why four people were passing a stuffed animal back and forth and cuddeling it to our necks! DH looked a bit over the board Disney and one guy told him so. It was so funny. The kids used it to play the three games to and from the parks so that could of led to fast battery use. We learned alot of disney trivia in the park. The kids loved it and we enjoyed it.
We then went to MK after dinner and the batteries were dead already!! We replaced them with help in a gift shop as you need a small phillips head screwdriver to get into battery compartment. It is alot of fun to interact with shows and attractions and we will be super disney trivia pros soon. The best feature is that you can repeat the info up to 5 times so if you miss it because of noise or it you want the whole family to hear you can push Mickeys hand and it will repeat.
I asked CM in store if more people were buying or renting and she said no one had rented them, everyone purchased them.
So - if you plan to get one, bring a good supply of batteries! They are worth the price and really cute too! I loved watching my two boys clutching a stuffed animal again. My 7 year old fell asleep on the bus with Mickey - priceless to me but I bet if I took a picture he would never forgive me - at that age already!!!

It sounds like you might want to get rechargeable AA batteries for this thing. I use those in my digital camera and they would probably be much more economical if you buy Pal Mickey!

hate to be stupid...but what exactly is PAL mickey?????
I feel like I am missing something big here....

Does Pal Mickey move his arms, head, or legs like the Bear in the Big Blue House toy that dances the Cha Cha Cha or does he just talk? I have a dd who is terrified of toys that move but doesn't mind if they just talk to her.

Thanks,

Anna

Oh, looks neat! We'll be at AKL next month. I wonder if we'll be able to get them there then?

Sooo, I might end up having to get two of the darn things. My 2 year old wants everything the SAME as her sister.

Neat! I'm sold. :)

Pal Mickey was introduced at OKW on Tuesday (my daughter bought ours at 5pm that evening with no problem) and the Grand Floridian on Wednesday. Each new day, Pal Mickey was introduced at another deluxe resort. The Contemporary and YC/BC were mentioned as being among the next resorts to have them.

Not many people have them in the parks yet.

My batteries are still going strong and we have been using him since Tuesday evening.

There is also a Pal Mickey pin, limited edition of 2000, being released at the same time as the toy. There will be an official launch next week.
