Hi Friends:

I would like to paint some electrical outlets to match my wall color. I would like to use my existing latex paint.

My qustion: Have you painted an electrical outlet, and if so, what advice do you have to share.

Thanks in advance,

Well, I really have no advice, but I paint them all the time. Just not on purpose. I tend to just be sloppy when painting and accidently roll right over them. So far it hasn't caused any problems. Good luck.

I paint just the cover plates & little screw heads, because the latex paint will tend to chip off easily from the outlet itself looking shabby very shortly.

Lightly sand the cover plates, wipe clean, use tsp is you have it too. Then paint plates & screw heads & allow to dry very well before screwing back on carefully not to chip off paint.

Since the outlet is the only area unpainted & it's rather small, it's not very noticeable.

I do the same for light switches also.
