Paint the Night Parade and Disneyland Forever Fireworks Strategy

Just an FYI...

On Friday, CM's were going around saying that starting at 7:30 pm, there would be a "no blanket" policy. They said all blankets must be folded up and put away. They said no backpacks or other items could be used to hold a person's spot. All persons must be in the spot holding the spot or they could lose their spot.

We knew that we were going to be too tired to wait for the the second parade so we did the Carnation Cafe reservation trick that was suggested here. It worked pretty well. You didn't see but small glimpses of the dancers but I was fine with that. We had a table right against the sidewalk so I was happy to sit and watch the parade! I probably don't think I got the best visual experience of the parade, and for that reason, it wasn't my favorite "anniversary" celebration (Disneyland Forever fireworks was!) but I wasn't willing to waste my whole evening staking out a spot for a 15-20 minute show. I was very happy with this strategy.

Are there maps anywhere with good viewing areas/PTN parade routes/ areas with buildings lit up for FW and things like that?

Google can often help with questions like this. I did a quick search and found this image of the parade route. Here is the entire Google Link.

The early parade runs from 3 to 1 and the late parade runs from 1 to 3.

I can only imagine what kind of cannon they would need to launch snow into the Hub area lol

I would tell them exactly where they could shove that idea, people have to be able to use the restrooms and get food and water.

I don't see that policy lasting long. Why don't they start with something they can and will actually enforce over time, like no unoccupied blankets?

How far in advance do you need to be sitting to save your place? I think we might try and catch this when we are there in late September, assuming it will still be going by then...

We were told the same thing. We had taken turns sitting at our blanket and all returned to our spot at 7:30pm as we were told. We never got told to fold up our blanket and we sat on our blanket the entire parade. That said, we didn't have patches of unoccupied blanket - we had squished over to let another family share our spot. maybe they are cracking down on people taking up much more room than they need with spread out blankets?

My DD and I did leave once at 8pm to go to the bathroom and my DH and DS spread out so our spots did not look unoccupied (it looked like a normal amount of room for 2 ppl) and they squished back over when we returned.

We made three attempts on the nighttime entertainment at DL.

First night - We picked what we thought was a decent spot behind a planter on the elevated area near IASW at about 7:40. Unfortunately some very inconsiderate people placed their children inside the planter and on top of the fencing around it in front of us, which almost completely blocked our view. The CM told them they couldn't do that before the parade started, but they just bounced back up there when it started. After the parade, we moved out into the area in front of IASW. This area took maybe five minutes to fill up and wasn't densely populated, like on Main Street. The projections were good on IASW and we had a great view of Matterhorn. Lots of spinning around to catch everything.

Second night - We got a yellow FP for Fantasmic! (They've switched up the areas again. I was aiming for what is now the blue area.) and got a nice spot behind a rock. The people in front of us sat on the rock, giving us an almost unobstructed view. We lined up at 7:55 for that. We watched the fireworks from that place. About half of the people left after F! and we moved to a fence position. The projections were good here, albeit wet. We saw all of the big fireworks, plus the low-level ones that they added just for us. We also had a glimpse of Tink, Nemo and Matterhorn. Although it was not all lined up, we didn't have to move much to see each element, and caught many of them in sync. We then proceeded immediately toward main street. We were forced to go through Adventureland. We had to explain to a CM that we weren't trying to exit, and then picked out a spot on a curb to catch the late parade near Plaza Inn. This was great, except for the kids that kept worming their way onto the curb in tiny gaps. We always start with more real estate than we need and somehow end up squished.

Third night - We did some shopping in Emporium until half way through the first parade. Then we casually walked on the sidewalk toward the castle until we found a tiny spot behind some people inside the rope near the Penny Arcade and squeezed in. Immediately after the parade ended we moved into the street right near the Penny Arcade. This is a delicate procedure, because the four rows in front may or may not have a sense of urgency to move into the street. We had a great view of the castle, fireworks, Tink, Nemo and about a building's worth of projections on MS. The only thing missing was the Matterhorn. We then nabbed a spot on the curb between a garbage can and a post to wait for the late parade. The garbage can/post thing prevented us from being squished and stepped on, but for some odd reason we became a pathway for people to step from the street to the sidewalk. We had to guard our belongings from being stepped on as they walked through. I'm sure they couldn't see them in the dark.

Our takeaway from this is that the crowds pre- and post- first parade are INSANE. Stay for the second one for the best viewing without spending hours guarding your spot. Also, balloons can be an annoyance during the fireworks if people forget to pull them down.

A great spot for the second parade is right facing where the parade float enters - in front of the flagpole. There is yellow tape marking off a section of the street. It looks odd so many people don't sit there. We had gotten there a little late (had hopped over after first WOC) so most curbside spots were taken and we were too tired to walk back to IASW. We saw the yellow tape and asked a CM who said we could sit there since a rope would go up before the parade. So we plonked ourselves down in the middle of the street (that felt REALLY weird). A short while before the parade (10 mins?), they set up the rope and we had a front row view.

The nice part is that the small museum at Lincoln is right there and we took turns going in to wander around.

do we have a sense whether the new show is more or less reliable than "Remember.."?
If by "reliable" you mean the chance of it getting cancelled, it will have the same reliability as RDCT. The impact of winds is not any different between DLF and RDCT and that is what impacts reliability.

that's what I meant, thanks!
