Just wanted to post a poll (I guess we are in the polling mood huh?), to see who has PAID OFF-WOO HOO! or who is still paying and how many years left. If 2 or more contracts, use the 1st contract as the main one.

To me DVC is really only a "good deal" if you can just afford to purchase it outright. It can still be fun if you are paying it off, but it just seems to me like you can really enjoy having the points more if you are only worrying about the maintenance fees each year - otherwise the disney trip is just too expensive year after year

We bought both of our contracts with cash. We'd like to buy another 100 points but we can't afford to pay cash for them right now so we're not doing it.

We are fortunate to only have the dues($200 month) for our pts(600) to worry about for the next 38 years. We did pay cash for our VB add-ons the last 2 years.

Well, I have two contracts and 3 add-ons paid off, but then I went and bought another contract for what seemed like a good price, except that now I have another payment for 4 more years! It's fun with the extra points, but I'm getting too close to retirement to take on any more payments. So why do I have all the major resale boards bookmarked, and what am I saving my extra money for?

Just signed up for 5 year financing, so while I would have loved to pay in cash, just not feasible yet.

Do plan on paying it off early though, hopefully 2.5 years. Will definitely cut the frequency of trips the first few years of ownership.

We still have a long way to go, but I view it as (for now) as a monthly deposit into vacation fund. I do plan on paying off early, but with a 20% "temporary" pay cut, right now is not good. In few monthes when back up to regular again (hopefully) can work on it more.

Well I voted the top amount of years because we refinanced the house to buy our original contract. That was 6 years ago so we still have about 9 years that we will be paying. I don't think it counts as paid off if you still owe a bank, even if it's not DVC.

We are relocating about 50 miles away due to my new job and are selling our house. We plan to use some of the profits to pay off our DVC.

And maybe buy a teeny tiny add-on????

:smooth: We joined in early 1992 and did one add on later. (All that we could afford at the time.) Paid it off through Disney and actually it was relatively painless.
Paying cash would have been a great idea except I don't know where I could have gotten the cash from!

I bought with cash last year. Our motto is if we can't pay cash for it, we don't buy it. (That goes for our house, new cars, etc.) Keeps things much easier!

I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go.

Need I say more!!!

"PAID OFF !!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!"

I don't know who you all are but I am sure jealous!!!:smooth: I am in the 6-8 year category

Paid off our initial purchase in a year. Paid cash for our add on last year. Now we just have to pay due each year.

My 770 points are all paid off!! Wooo Hoooo!

OKW 270
Vero Beach 200
BWV 200
BCV 100

:) :)

Paid off my 270 base and 50 add on with savings......thank goodness the Canadian dollar rallied and saved me a good $6000 on our purchase....phew

Thanks

I got a nice bonus at work this spring and did the math -- we would save about $6K by just paying it off pronto, so we did. We then paid cash for our add-on this May.

I agree that it sure is nice to be paid off, especially if you have ever taken the time to figure out exactly what you spend when you visit WDW... We are "modest" spenders, but even so it's very alarming how quickly costs add up. You may not have the room to worry about, but there's still travel...the meal$... the ticket$... etc. Mousehood ain't cheap. We now save what were our DVC bucks as a special account for our trips, so that the associated costs don't hit us like a Tower of Terror when we add them up afterwards!
