Paid for airfare via paypal but the payment doesn't seem to have gone through

I paid for airfare in January via paypal. After a week or so I realized the payment had not come out of my account. I checked paypal and it said "pending", I checked the airline and my tickets showed confirmed and paid for. I have always paid this way and usually the $ is withdrawn within a few days. I just checked paypal today and the transaction has expired. I checked the airline website again, still showing tickets have been confirmed and paid for. I called the airline and they confirmed my confirmed tickets were all set. I am worried that the airline will realize they haven't taken the $ from paypal and when they go to take it because its past 30 days, they won't be able to and cancel my tickets. I know paypal is not easy to deal with as far as refunding $ so I don't want to get charge twice or anything. This is very weird and I am not sure what to do if anything. WWYD?

BTW, I have used paypal MANY times since then, including buying more airline tickets, and there hasn't been any issue. I read in the FAQ's that the expired status means the seller never put though the transaction to get the $.

What airline accepts Paypal payments?

I would call Paypal.

I had this happen on Continental. I called to confirm the tickets, and everything seemed fine. The person I spoke to must not have understood what my problem was because she assured me everything was fine. When we got to the 24-hour mark and I went to check in online for the flight though, it wouldn't let me. But still it worked out OK--I called and after being on the phone nearly an hour and talking to multiple people, they figured out that I had not been charged. But my tickets were still there, seat still assigned, and they just went ahead and charged me then.

I would call and explain very clearly what is going on--don't just confirm that you have a ticket.

Ugh, called Airtran, they said payment transaction shows as complete so there is nothing they can do now and suggested maybe I just missed the transaction detail in my account (I didn't). Bottom line, they can't charge me again. Maybe they will realize before my trip in March, if not I will check in as soon as I can so I can deal with whatever then. How annoying. I won't use Paypal again for tickets.

Have you called Paypal to talk to them?
 
I went to check in this morning for tomorrow's flight, with my credit card in hand, expecting to see some sort of message to call or something to indicate I needed to make a payment. Nothing, I just printed my boarding passes. This is so bizarre. I doublechecked my account to see if I missed the payment coming through, even though it shows as not paid/expired on Paypal. Hey, I tried! That's $207 towards our spring break trip!
 
what was the outcome to this situation? did you ever have to pay for the tickets? I am in the same boat and dont know what to do

I am in a predicament as I need to book hotel but dont want to end up with a hotel, no flights, and no money for to buy new flights as Paypal have my money!
 
They never took the money out...so bizarre. If the payment is pending you should be ok.

I've the same problem. I bought a ticket on BA website and i paid with paypal but the payment status is "pending".

I'm worry about this. I don't know what to do.

What happened to you? Does your trip were OK?
 
So this happened to me in January.. purchased 4 international tickets with Aeromexico with my PayPal account and payment status was still "pending" 3 days before the flight. I called PayPal and they said the transaction wasn't completed and that I had to contact the airline, they suspected a glitch during the online booking process. I called Aeromexico and they said the tickets were confirmed. We had no issues with the flight and PayPal never billed me.
 
The original post is over 5 years old. I certainly hope that the situation was resolved by now. Around here, these are called Zombie thread!
 
haha well I am glad you brought it back to life! I am in the exact same position and I am freaking out a bit. I booked a return ticket from Lufthansa using PayPal, the first time I tried to process it failed and came up with a red message at the top. The second time I tried using alternative choice in PayPal, it worked and I received my booking confirmation. However, when I logged into PayPal the first time and second attempts were there.

The first attempt saying "Your funding source will be charged when Deutsche Lufthansa AG completes your order."

and the second which I received my booking confirmation "This is a temporary authorisation to make sure your funding source will cover the payment. Your funding source will be charged when Deutsche Lufthansa AG completes your order."

I do not know whether to contact PayPal or Lufthansa first. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot
