When do you start packing? We leave on the 15th, usually I leave stuff at the last minute, I don't want to do that this time lol

I leave Tuesday and haven't started packing because I can't decide what I need to pack because I've never been to Florida in November before. That's not normal though. Usually I toss stuff in the guest room as I wash it (rather than putting it away and having to get it out again).

We've only been during summer and spring, we had a few chilly nights in spring last year in the low 50s, we were not prepared for that at all.

It depends on when we're going - when we used to go in January/Feb/March we could pack early since we were wearing winter stuff at home and wouldn't need our warmer weather stuff. When we went in August we packed over the 2 days before, since we were bringing summer clothes and still needed them at home.

I make a rough list far enough in advance though, so we aren't scrambling too much to pack since we pretty much know what we're bringing.

It depends in how you define "packing"...
1) putting things in a tub so you have it when you need it: I starts months in advance.
2) putting actual things in a suitcase: a day or two before we leave

:surfweb:I start a spreadsheet as soon as I make reservations with a column for each family member with # of outfits/shirts at the bottom & a column for other things (travel items, backpack supplies, etc). As time go on I add to the list & shade in things I've gotten. My mom laughs but it helps us not forget anything.

We go a lot (2x a year), try to only take 2 large suitcases (4 of us), stay DVC so have access to laundry, rent a car, and never tell the kids in advance.

I usually start gathering up things like laundry packets, dishwasher tabs, mickey ears, sunscreen, etc about a week before. The actual packing I do the night before we leave after the kids go to bed as I am finishing up laundry (since I am usually pulling things out of there as I pack). This last trip in May, I was working INSANE hours at work. We were staying over at the airport since we had a 6am flight. I had NOTHING packed ahead of time. I had plans of leaving work around lunch, but didn't get home til 4:30. I had myself and the kids packed (DH had laid out all his stuff earlier) and we were out the door by 6pm and that included prepping the house for us to be gone for a week. I have it down to a science....although warm weather trips are much easier to pack for than trips during the winter when you need a little bit of everything.

I started packing about a week out (leaving tomorrow night) --- It was easier to pack this trip, because as I watched the weather forecast, it was pretty obvious I could pack a lot of summer stuff, which we are no longer wearing here in PA. I do have some clothes for cooler weather packed. We have a couple outfits each packed in 3 of our 4 carry ons and we have two checked bags. I am much more laid back about it this trip than last. As I think of something, I grab it and throw it in a suitcase.

We usually take the first flight out, so we plan to leave the house at 4am. Which means at 2am, I've finally finished packing and collapse into bed, angry with myself that I did it again lol.

Thank you for the help! We are going to the store tonight to get a few last things.

I'm a procrastinator...so I usually don't start packing until the night before. Crazy right? It just works for me...I work better under pressure, lol. Have fun!
