We haven't flown in quite some time, certainly not since the new liquid/gel thing came out. Can any ladies please help with tips on such things as make-up, hairspray or anything that has to be bagged separately? Any other do's or don'ts would be appreciated!!

If you are checking the luggage nothing has changed.

If you are doing anything in carry on the following applies to liquids only (hairspray, sunscreen, foundation, gel deoderants, toothpaste etc)

1. No single item can exceed an 3 oz container. That means you can't bring an "almost" empty can of hairspray, the original container must be a 3 oz or smaller size.

2. Each ticketed passenger may have ONE QUART size ziplock type baggie with thier 3 oz containers included. The "official" wording is that the items must fit comfortably... (Whatever that means) Using a half full gallon bag is NOT allowed. If you only have one item it still must be in the plastic baggie. (Apparently plastic baggies have magical properties or the guys who run the TSA have stock in Ziplock!)

3. Just to be on the safe side, items should be in manufacture labeled containers. Now my shampoo says "Johnsons Baby Shampoo" and it does contain shampoo.... just not "Johnsons" ...So I suggest "repackaging"

4. The baggie must go thru security out of your carry on. Rules for inspecting the baggie etc vary. Your local TSA agents will probably be SCREAMING the instructions.....

5. Liquid prescriptions and acceptable amounts of formula are not subject to the 3 oz mess, but must be presented to the TSA agent who may or may not do something (My personal fav is that they sometimes write on YOUR boarding pass... this proves WHAT? That they can write?)

5. Liquids bought in the gate area can now be carried on board.

Just make sure you use a One Quart baggie for you items. I had placed mine in a sandwich bag thinking it was smaller so that would be fine, but I had to go to the gift shop and buy a quart size bag.

Also my husband flew two weeks ago and in Ft.Myers they were making women put their lipstick in their plastic baggies, so if you have room you might want to put your lipstick in your quart size bag even though it is an allowed item.

Wear easy on and off shoes too.

We just got back from a week in Vegas. My advice, check it all. I only carried on what I needed for the flight - books, snacks, purse, the rest we checked.
