Looks like we will have some extra space in our check in luggage. We are considering packing a case of water. We are a little nervous..... Has anyone ever done this? Tips or suggestions to offer??

with the PP. Twenty-four half liter bottles, will come in over 24 pounds. Many airlines have up charges for bags over a certain weight that are punitive.

As other posters said, a whole case of bottled water would be really heavy in your luggage. Seems like there are easier ways to get bottled water at WDW. You can have it delivered (Staples, Costco, Garden Grocer, etc.).

Double bag the bottles in ziploc bags so if any of them break open the water won't soak your suitcase as well as other people's.

Put the bottles in the middle of your suitcase so your clothes will cushion them. Luggage handlers are not gentle with suitcases.

I packed 2 bottles of wine in my checked luggage on a recent trip. The winery had special packaging bags, sort of like bubble wrap that sealed tightly in case of breakage. I also wrapped each one in my clothing and both arrived home safely. Not sure about packing bottled water - it would depend on the quality of the bottles - some are very flimsy, and how well you are able to contain any breakage. There would be nothing worse than getting to WDW have a suitcase full of wet clothing. The weight would be a major consideration for me.

Seeing as you are allowed usually up to 50lb, I don't think a case of water will cause an issue. Just remember, that bottles can break, tops can pop due to pressure. I would try to take them out of the case and bag them if possible.

You have a few choices. You could order bottled water through the Garden Grocer, and they will deliver it to your hotel. Or get water free at parks by asking for I've water at the quick service places. Personally, I go for free. Water should be a free commodity rather than something companies make money from

I'm going to disagree. Getting to WDW have a suitcase full of wet electronics and paper items (books, etc.) because someone else packed water is way worse.

Everything that goes in my suitcase goes in a ziplock bag for this very reason.

Leave the extra space - you always have more coming home, and things (dirty clothes) aren't packed as well... Just get water at Disney.

Leave the extra room and get the water when u get there. Better safe than sorry.

We pack water most of our trips. I will make packs of three or four bottles in vacuum bags and place a pack in each checked bag. We only do this when we do not get a rental car. We also fly Southwest for most of our trips and do not have bag fees. I have not had any problems with the water. I have had bottles of alcohol (also packed in vacuum bags) disappear without a trace. I guess TSA is watching out for my safety.

We usually check 2 bags and I always put a few bottles (5-6) of water in each of our checked bags. I try to pack light because I know we will be bringing a lot home. (Still can't figure our how this happens - we have been so many times and don't buy many souvineers). I don't like the flavor of the water in the rooms so like to have a few bottles to have in the room when we first get there.

I always drive to Disney so taking large packs of water is never an issue, and we do like having the bottled water with us: we stop less on the actual car ride there and back, and we don't like the taste of Florida water so it saves us from buying bottled water once we are in the park which can get pricey! Actually packing it shouldn't be a problem, like others have suggested, just be sure to split them up to make the bags not as heavy and put them in plastic ziploc baggies. Maybe buy the bottles that have pop caps so that they are not as flimsy and will be less likely to leak? As for saving the extra space...if you drink all the water then you won't be bringing it back now will you? ;) If you're seriously concerned about the bottles breaking or leaking, definitely consider buying bottled water once you are in Floride, either having it delivered, or making a pit stop at a grocery store if you are not utilizing Disney's transport from the airport.
