Hi,

I'm new here and we are taking our first WDW vacation!

We will be going March 24-April 1st.
Staying at POFQ

My questions is what to pack?

It will be me, DH, DS6, and DS3.

Should I pack more shorts than pants or the opposite?

I've never been to the East coast so I'm pretty clueless.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rebecca

Shorts, shorts and more shorts. We still have to use our air conditioners this year and we never usually have to in January. Unless you plan to go to a really nice restaurant (like Victoria and Alberts) you can wear shorts anywhere. Florida is subject to cold fronts so it is hard to predict if it will be cold or not but I think you would want to bring more than one pair of shorts as there really seems to be something to global warming this year. I wore jeans to the park the other day and it was in the high 60's.. but most people had shorts on. Normally by late March winter is pretty much over. You may need a sweatshirt in the AM or late PM but during the day you most likely will not.

How exciting! I remember our first trip and we were so clueless. You are lucky to have found this site. We went once in April and it was in the 90's. We usually go in the summer and I love the heat. What threw us off was our skin hadn't been exposed to sun during the winter and some of us had terrible sunburns- Wear sunscreen. Change your socks as often as you can - at least 2x a day to help prevent blisters. Sometimes we can wear shorts for 2 days, but shirts are often changed like socks. Make sure you find out park opening and closing times before you plan your days. When you figure out the day you want to watch Fantasmic at MGM, have a back-up day. 2 of my kids haven't seen Fantasmic because it was cancelled due to rain and we didn't have a back-up plan. I don't make adr's and we always find a place to eat, just maybe not table service. we are a very low key family and the kids wouldn't do very well eating at a ts restaurant every day. When it's hot my kids don't eat very much. We share many meals like 3 meals = 4 people. I try to save money wherever I can so I do laundry. I can't afford 2 weeks of clothes for 6 of us. We also drive most of the time.. HAVE FUN!!:cool1:

Hi Rebecca! You're going to love WDW! We're going down in March right before you guys do and I am planning on bringing lots of shorts, t-shirts, and my bathing suit. I would also bring maybe one pair of long pants and a long sleeve top/sweatshirt just in case it gets cool at night and you need to throw it on. One thing that you may not be used to, coming from the West Coast, is the humidity! So, I agree w/ the above poster about needing to change socks and shirts part way through the day. Enjoy your first trip, let us know how it goes!

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm! I am loving this board of ideas and friendliness(?)!!

I can't wait to go and I have been given some wonderful ideas!

I am glued to the boards here. I'm worried I might miss something. My DH thinks I'm crazy!

Lots of shorts, but do have a pair of jeans/pants for each person.
You've got to be prepared & you'd hate to get all the way to WDW & be stuck in shorts on chilly evenings.

Have a great time!!

It's almost as much fun to plan as it is to go! One of the best tips I've picked up from this board is to pack kids outfits in large zip bags (gallon size). This way you can easily pick out an outfit and won't have to hunt for socks, underwear, etc. If hubby helps get the kids dressed, you know they will match. Also, you know clothes out of bags need to be laundered. Another great tip from these boards is to pack a little bit for everybody in each suitcase, that way if one gets waylaid, you still have clothes for the whole family.

I always check accuweather.com for a forcast about a week before we go. They give a 15 day forcast that seems a pretty good guess. I also pack a small pen size flashlights for the little ones in case they get scared in the dark. Have a good trip !!

Go to the dollar store and buy a bunch of the $1 plastic rain ponchos. They are very lightweight and easy to maneuver in. If they rip or tear, you just throw them away and open another (they take up very little space in your purse/fanny pack/etc). I like them a lot better than the heavy, more expensive ponchos you can buy at the Disney shops.
Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

I am excited to see that it is warm down there right now! We leave on Sunday and I am debating on more shorts....looks like I will need to pack a few pairs more!:cool1: It is gonna be great to get away from the freezing temps here!

I love this....I guess we all have that type of hubby who can't match clothes...I remember when my boys were small...the only time when you can get cute things for boys...and my husband would mix and match the outfits, then the whole outfit wouldn't be clean at the same time...used to drive me nuts. Love this suggestiong about the zip lock bags!!! I have used basically the same method when sending the boys to camp, but I just take the underwear and socks and roll the shorts and t-shirt around them. I think that perhaps this way they might actually change their socks and underwear.:rotfl:
