I know we will all be looking for the info on what to pack as this time for the even gets closer. I thought I'd make a "special home" for the information.

CJ, I've got Disney packing almost down to a science. I keep my list at home, but here's my off-the-top-of-my-head list:

2 sets of running clothes and running shoes
Body Glide -- I like it so much better than vasoline because it doesn't ruin your clothes
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
"Normal" toiletries (though I like to throw in one fancy soap for my post-race cleanup)
Swimsuit (a cool pool is great therapy to prevent/lessen postrace soreness)
Digital Camera, batteries, and battery charger
Cell phone and cell phone charger
Race documentation (needed for package pickup -- Don't forget photo ID)
Room confirmation
List of priority seatings & confirmation #s
Park tickets
Refillable mugs for my WDW resort (hope this doesn't start a controversy)

More later. Gotta work!
Another to add.

Another with info.

...HMMMM, a packing list! Just make sure to bring your shoes. :rotfl: Here is the running stuff I bring. Hope it helps.
1. belt packs
2. H2O/gatoraid bottles
3. Gels
4. Shorts, pants
5. Shirts - LS & SS
6. Chap stick
7. Jackets, hats, gloves
8. Running shoes, socks
9. chub rub stuff
10. MP3 Player/Ipod & batteries
11. sunglasses

A quick reminder, if you are going to want to walk back through Epcot after you finish the race, to one of the resorts, you'll need your park ticket with you unless you have someone waiting for you at the finish line to hang on to it for you.

The lists here are great, you all are going to have wonderful trips and great marathons!!

Something else you MUST bring if it applies to you -- PROOF OF TIME. You must pack it and take it to the EXPO with you. I'd suggest putting it with your race packet. :thumbsup2

I thought of something else last week to add to the packing list.

CROCS!

I have decided to put my crocs in my post-race bag that I will check at the start. Last year I didn't give much thought of what to put in that bag, but I am definitely planning to put my crocs in so that I can get out of my race shoes and into something very comfortable for the walk to the bus or the resort.

I don't have Crocs, but my flip flops are always part of my post race wear. Feels so good to get off those sweaty shoes.

I thought of two other things that should be packed -- rain gear in case you are waiting or walking/running in the rain and

if you have one and plan to use it -- the "stick". DH realized the other day that he will need his for after the half so he doesn't tighten up too much before the full; and he'll use it after the full as well. A runner we met after the Delaware marathon told us he carries it to every single race he does and puts it in his race bag or his car to use immediately after finishing.

Also, you may want to modify your pack lists and check lists to accommodate the warm weather that is currently being forecast for the events. You may not need warm throwaway layers, but may need lighter running clothes and/or a pair of dry socks and/or a visor and/or a small portable sunscreen (those individual packets are great!)

Good Idea Cam: I should defintiely bring my "stick" to the start. So how big are the gear bags they give you?

I'm not sure how to describe the size. Kind of like a drawstring plastic bag that you'd get at a shoe store, like footlocker. I think they were clear with the race logo printed in black on the clear plastic and the drawstring is thin white rope. The bag is good to put your mylar blanket in afterwards, and if you want to take off your waistpack, too.

I should add that the Stick I bought Howard is the shorter one. I think they even call it a travel size. I am not sure it would fit completely in the bag, but I'd be completely comfortable with it sticking out the top when the bag is checked, if Howard wants it in his post-race bag, rather than waiting until we get back to BCV to use it.

What all do you usually pack in the post-race bag? I don't have a clue. :scratchin

At the very least, I will have the following: dry shirt, baby powder, wet wipes (all because it will be hot by the time I'm done the full), crocs, bottle of water (in case they only have DASANI, which I can't drink).

If it is supposed to rain, I may put a poncho in the race bag, too.

DH uses body glide and may need it by the end of his races to walk to the bus or the resort.

Excellent idea! I'm going to make sure I leave a bag too especially so I can take off my belt. I don't mind leaving my shoes on till I reach the room but being able to take the belt off and tuck it into the bag will be a really nice feeling. Wish I had thought of that before but I was always thinking it's not that bad and I can live with it but now reading your post I'm think why not be comfortable!!! I'm thinking of tossing in a oversized shirt too like you suggested. Excellent idea!

And everyone remember to SIGN you waiver before entering the Expo. I forgot to do that both in 2005 and 2006 and what a pain. Nothing terrible, just had to step to the side and sign it before entering the packet pick up area.

Thanks for the idea Cam!!!! I'll probably toss in a Clif bar too. What can I say I'm still twitching over the idea of not getting my banana after the DL Half. For those doing the WDW Half, in 2006 I was like one of the last 600 to finish I think. I was towards the tail end and there was PLENTY of food. The table full of water after going thru and getting the photo taken. Going thru the food tent there looked to be tons of food I had my choice and had a wonderful banana that I ate immediately and picked out a lovely banana muffin that I had my hands to full to eat (holding my water, my phone that I was juggling and something else can't remember maybe my gloves?). This is wear that bag will come in handy. Which reminds me again.... THANKS CAM!!! LOL

Can't wait to see you all!!!!! :grouphug:

This year on a whim I packed both an extra (carry-on sized) sports bag inside my duffle bag AND a small folding plastic-lined cooler (somewhat larger than a lunch cooler). Both of them came in really handy -- the extra bag for my Goofy souvenirs, and the cooler to keep my morning iced tea and my meal leftovers cooled. It provided me with the convenience of an in-room refrigerator without the $10/night charge. (As I'm an All Star devotee, fridges are extra cost.)

Making a note to myself here so I can remember it for next year.

Wendy -- I am with you on the small cooler bag thing. We were able to freeze water bottles and powerade and bring it to the 1/2 course and the WISH tent afterwards for anyone who needed that stuff. We also threw in a bunch of sport beans and other nutrition so we'd have it if anyone needed it.

As for the extra bag -- That would have been a great idea. We "HAD" to buy a new piece of luggage (the canvas tote with leather trim) at MGM our last day to accommodate our merchandise splurges.

Oh, and a couple of things to add to the "to do" lists, also so that I will remember next year:

set the timer on coffee pot before going to bed (or you just might forget to have your very critical race-morning coffee, like I did)

use your inhaler on race morning (yeah, I forgot that too!) and if you have a "rescue inhaler" be sure to bring it with you to the race (our friend Kevin forgot his and had a really rough time during the full)

put your morning powerade in the bag with your breakfast and do NOT let DH get your breakfast out of the fridge on race morning. If he does, he will not know that you have pieces of your breakfast, including your powerade UNDER the bag, and you will have NO water and NO powerade before the start of a very HOT race day. :confused3

Oh, and one last thing to put in your race pack on a hot race day -- 2 salt packets -- take one pre-race and another at mile 17. This was advice from John Bingham and Coach Jenny Hadfield and I have to believe it helped.

UGH -- another thing to put in your race pack -- band-aids. When I fell, Rhonda, fortunately had a bandaid in her pack for the worst of my cuts. I know that is something I could have gotten at a medical tent, but I could not bring myself to slow down long enough for first aid, as I truly feared being swept.

I tell you, even with all my packlists and to-do lists, I was a bit spacey on race morning. I can't imagine what it would have been like if I didn't have it all down on paper.

This would make a good sticky as it applies to most any event (give or take a swim/bike segment ;)).

Haven't read all the lists--but something to keep in mind....ICING...something to soak in that tub of ice water post race. If you can bring a cooler--even a collapsable one...makes it easier to hall ice from the ice machine to the tub.

I used a sweat shirt to wear.

For the salt packets--my coach (TNT officially) recommended the salt packets (just one or two from McD's or BK) for the marathon distance. We were never limited due to weather conditions. You still lose salt even if it is cold.

In addition to bandaids, I will bring moleskin and neosporin - in case I get blisters like I did last year. Also, I used the moleskin on the back of the medal strap around my neck last year because if I recall, the strap was a little scratchy and I wanted to wear my medal!

I bring a couple of rolls of athletic tape for all this blisters/hotspots before, during, and after the races. I also bring Epson Salts to help with my feet.

can you bring epson salts on the plane?

I love epsom salts, my container is open tho...

adding epsom salts to the list!!

Thanks :thumbsup2
