packing lighters?

DH is a smoker, and i am a part time smoker (LOL). I know last year I read you weren't allowed (or so I thought) to pack lighters at all, not even in checked luggage, but I read in passporters that you could, as long as it was in the checked luggage. So does anyone know for sure. Can you pack a lighter in the checked luggage?

Yes, I am sure. I travel with a lighter every week. Simply google TSA and lighter.

You definitely can carry it on.
There was a temporay ban on them in the US only, due to a silly rule put in place by idiots that was then recinded.
