Packing, Kids and Trips

and the ziplock bags worked great!!!! Thanks for the idea and having the extra bags was handy once the clothes emptied out!!!

The Ziploc bag idea is great. I have two children, 6 and 3, and we'll be taking our first trip to WDW in February. I'll make sure to buy plenty of ziploc bags beforehand to pack their clothes, and min.;)

This idea works well with carryons, also. I have each child carry a backpack with books, toys, etc. for the plane ride. I also have each one carry 2 ziplock bags: one has a change of clothes, with undies and socks, the other has pajamas and a swimsuit and toothbrush (in it's own ziplock). That way, if some luggage is lost, we have the basics we need.

When my kiddies were little, I just packed all the ziplocks in one carryon, and didn't put it in the kids bag. But now that they are older, they carry less stuff.

Another story: on our first WDW trip, I packed in ziplocks. My oldest ds (then almost 9) chose his clothes by what shirt was in the bag. My youngest ds (just turned 4) chose by what undies were in it (Buzz Lightyear, batman and so on)

I "ziplocked" the kids clothes last summer ... made mornings so much easier. I also "ziplocked" my undies and bras in case my bag was randomly choosen for a search.

Another plus was that I was able to stuff 8 days worth of clothing in the kids' kid-size rolling suitcases (19") and they carried them on the plane ... no chance of lost luggage.

Ziplocking for our January trip will be more challenging, but I'm going to try.

Pack the snacks in a hard school lunchbox :)

We used ziplock bags for a cold weather outfit and a warm weather outfit in the carryons for each girl. That way, if GOD FORBID our luggage is lost, they have an outfit to wear and an outfit to wash. It was also nice because packed along with snacks and juice boxes there are no worries about clothes getting dirty...and no pulling the fruit snacks out of the bottom of the backpack and spewing clothes all over the plane seats.

For a week long trip with three girls in unpredictable weather, though, we opted to not pack ziplocks. We unpack into the dressers when we get there...and put them in coordinating piles (one outfit per girl in a stack...then set the next day's outfit on top of the dresser at night before bed).

I also tried the ziploc idea that I got from these boards for our trip this past November. My DH thought I was nuts!!! I used them for both my DDs and myself(I could not convince my DH to try it) I got both DDs outfits for a week in one small suitcase. I used a medium sized suitcase and was able to fit all my outfits plus all the misc. things we brought that you need traveling with young kids (medicines, receiving blankets, sippy cups, toiletries, etc.) It was great for me as well as the kids to be able to just pull out a bag with a complete outfit in it. It also easy for DH to help get them ready in the morning b/c there was no asking me "what should they wear?" - he just pulled out a bag and it was all in there! I did not find wrinkling to be a big problem and now that we are back, I have a ton of ziploc bags that I can reuse or save for the nezt trip!!

I look forward to trying this tip in January!! I had no trouble packing for our last trip, but always like a way to be more organized!!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! :Pinkbounc

What a GREAT idea!!! ...I will definitley be packing with Ziplocks for our trip!!
