I don't like to overpack, but DH and I have no experience with taking a 6 month old baby on any vacation. Our DD didn't go on her first vacation until she was 8 and that includes WDW. Here is what I put together today to add to our family's large packing list. If anything is missing let me know. We're going in May 2008 (2nd week).

For riding in the car from NJ to Orlando:
Baby Toys
Baby Mirror
Baby Window Shade (side & rear)
Car Seat & Seat Saver
Blanket/Receiving blanket
Cap (for napping w/ A/C on)

Baby's Luggage - we'll have a washer/dryer where we're staying
Medela Machine (for me)
5 storage Bottles/Nipples
2 Pacifiers/Holder
Diapers/Wipes
Meds like Mylicon, Tylenol, Balmex, etc.
Some grooming supplies
Lotion/Bath Wash/Powder
Swim Diapers
5 Tshirts
5 Bibs
2 or 3 Plastic Bibs
5 Outfits
Changing Pad
Pack N' Play
Baby Pillow
Baby Mat
Bath Toys/Teddy
Socks
Sweater or light jacket
2 blankets
Receiving blankets, a few
Caps (3)
Sunblock for babies (can anyone recommend a good brand?)
pair of crawling leggings

Baby Foods (bringing items from home)
Formula not needed
Gerber stages foods and drinks
cereal and snacks

Two large Zip Loc baggies for in park
A little bit of everything
back up milk w/ cooler bags

P.S. I tried to search these forums for a list, but I can't beat this new search feature the Dis has. :( Sorry if this is a duplicate.

i always took the disposable table toppers to cover the table where the baby was snacking, disposable pampers bibs and a packet of antibacterial wipes to do hands and the highchair before meals. you can fit all three of these things into snack size ziploc bags rolled up, then you can just stuff three baggies in the diaperbag each day and you are good to go.

We did this when DD was 7 months old, driving from Connecticut. Your list looks good, but my only advice would be, don't overload your car with baby toys. Bring just a couple of favorites and a couple of new things to grab her attention. We brought way too many things to try to occupy her for the ride and the back seat looked like a toy explosion. At that age she will sleep a lot anyway. We've gone every year since DD was born and this will be her fourth trip coming up in August. That first one was probably the easiest in terms of keeping her happy in the car. This year, we have decided to fly.;)

Do you use a sling or front carrier for your little one? I have gone with a 3 month old once and a 4 month old once. I kept them in the sling or front carrier almost the whole time. They liked being up high to see things. It was also easy on the rides. dh and I would take turns "wearing" him or her. I have also been 2x with 1yo's. I have to say that nursing is the way to go. You can nurse on most of the rides very discreetly. It got to be where dd1 would start grabbing my shirt everytime we sat down on a ride. The land ride was the only one difficult because I got a front seat right in front of the tour guide. Lucky for me, just give me a blanket and I will nurse anywhere. Never got any strange looks either. Did it once with a bottlefed baby and it was rough keeping formula and bottles and bottled water, etc.

Do you really need to bring the pac n play? Most hotels offer than at no charge. Not bringing it would save a little space. You also mention swim diapers but no swimsuit. Also, for milk storage, you may want to consider the bags with the holders. That way, you only need to have one holder and don't have to worry about washing the bottles, just the nipples. If you bring bottles, don't forget the bottle brush for washing them.

As for sunblock, we have always used water babies spf 50. Never had any burns.

Good luck with your packing and have a GREAT trip. May is a great time to go.

We travelled with a six week old in March, then went back again in September. Can I ask where you are staying? The DVC resorts with the kitchens are so nice to have with a little one.

Packing suggestions
1. Baby bjorn!!!!!! Must have - if you have to leave everything else at home, take this! Best product EVER!
2. Rent a crib from abbf.com - a baby bath is nice too so you don't have to bath her in the sink - too cramped. Great site.
3. Take a light white loose knit blanket to cover her in her stroller - better than sunblock, keeps the light off but lets in a breeze.
4. Double up the clothes - they go through stuff fast! DS might have gone through what you are bringing in a day and a half.
5. Children's place usually sells great surfer swimsuits that keep the sun off better than a swimmer diaper.
6. A big case of bottled water for you. You need to stay well hydrated while breastfeeding in the Florida sun and the water there is dreadful!
7. Your own stroller - the ones at Disney are not great for little ones.

Ombrelle is a great sunscreen for infants with sensitive skin if you can get it in the states.

To save on space, if you are staying on property, skip the pack and play (resorts all come with them), bath toys (let her watch you pour water from a cup) and play mat (just use a towel and some of the car toys).

Congratulations and have a wonderful trip!

Aren't Pack-n-Play's available at the Grand Floridian Resort? Or is it just a crib that is avalable?

Forgive me for my male ignorance here, but I'm a single dad, traveling with my three daughters, ages 18, 15, 10, and my grandson, age 1 on July 10th, is a Pack-n-Play a portable play pen that the baby can sleep in, instead of a crib?

Don't forget the sheet for the pack and play and I like spectra3 SPF 50 by water babies it doesn't leave a residue and it dries nice. My family is fair skinned and we apply this once a day while in WDW and have not burned yet.
DS 20 months DD 7 DS 12

Skip the pack n play (but do bring your own sheet), and a lot of toys. If your baby is like mine, bring extra pacifiers. Mine had a habit of taking them out of the holder and tossing them. I kept one in my bag, one on her, and at least one back at the hotel for night time. If you're going when it will be hot, you might think about a stroller fan (One Step Ahead has a great clip on). The FL sun is very strong. You might look into a sun protection suit and hat that can be used in the water. Do a search online and you will find a lot. One Step Ahead does carry items like this. Both my kids wear a long sleeve sun shirt and hat at the beach and pool. I bought them much larger than they actually wear so they can grow into them.

I bought disposable changing pads for DS (he was 5 months on our last trip). I don't like the idea of putting my changing pad down on a changing table that might not be clean, then having to put the pad back in my diaper bag. I loved being able to throw the disposable changing pad away with the diaper. I also had a ziplock bag with diaper cream and Purell so I could disinfect my hands after a diaper change since the sinks aren't always near the changing tables in restrooms. I also brought scented bags for stinky diaper disposal.

I would also bring your own sheet for the Pack N Play (I brought 2 since DS spits up a lot). I think it helps baby to have something from home with a familiar scent when staying in a strange place.

Another vote for Water Babies sunblock. It's one of the few that DD7 can use without breaking out in a rash. My ped recommended getting one with titanium dioxide since it's less likely to cause skin irritation. I got what he recommended and the baby broke out in a rash. :confused3 I used DD's Water Babies on him after that and he was fine.

If your baby spits up a lot, I'd bring lots of burp cloths. We had a washer/dryer in our villa, but I still went through tons of burp cloths with DS.

In addition to receiving blankets, I brought a larger blanket to put on the floor so DS could play on it.

I would bring a couple of extra pacifiers and I would skip the bath toys.

Stroller and Baby Bjorn or sling.

PJ's. I actually put a blanket sleeper on DS over his PJ's because the AC in our room was very chilly.

Have a great trip with your little one. We're going back in August, so DS will have been to WDW twice by the time he's 9 mos old! :thumbsup2

How inconvenient is this? I can see my DH getting upset with me because I'm trying to take everything off the table to put down a disposable table cloth. I didn't think of that, but I can see myself doing it and him not liking it.

I didn't know disposable bibs existed. Thanks!

I also carry a small bottle of Purell in my bag regularly for my family so I got that down and I'm all for zip loc bags.

That first one was probably the easiest in terms of keeping her happy in the car. This year, we have decided to fly.;)

Thank you! I didn't think about the clutter, only about keeping baby happy while being strapped in carseat for a couple hours between stops. Not to mention, our DD and all of her stuff in the back seat too...didn't think about that while compiling my baby list.

Do you use a sling or front carrier for your little one? I have gone with a 3 month old once and a 4 month old once. I kept them in the sling or front carrier almost the whole time. I totally forgot about the Baby Bjorn! I had it in my mind but not in my list. Going to look at other brands since I got some advice from here saying that babies are usually out of Baby Bjourns by 4 or 5 months. Can you recommend a good brand for a sling? I really do like the look of the slings and they look comfy.

Thanks for the BF tip! That's right, I will be able to feed baby while riding on some attractions and maybe at shows. This will be my first attempt at BFing so this tip was a great one for me.

I didn't know that hotels did Pack N Play rentals. I just called our back up hotel (Liki Tiki Village which is offsite if we are not able to get a 2 bedroom, 7 night rental at either OKW, BWV or BCV) and they rent the PnP for $7 per night and high chairs for $5 per day. The PnP folded into the bag does take up a lot of car space so I'll take the advice of all and just rent one and bring the sheets.

I didn't think baby needed a swimsuit ??? Just the swim diaper and sunblock?? I have to look into this.

Skip the pack n play (but do bring your own sheet), and a lot of toys. If your baby is like mine, bring extra pacifiers. Mine had a habit of taking them out of the holder and tossing them. 2 PnP sheets and extra pacifiers. Check!

I've never seen a stroller fan. Is Sports Authority or Modell's a good place to look?

Disposable changing pads actually sounds like a good idea. Again, I didn't know those even existed. Thanks!

I registered for a couple of blanket sleepers so I'll have one to take then.

A blanket instead of the play pad conserves space in the trunk so I'll think about leaving that home. I'm not for sure I'll do that though. :sad2:

We're going to stay at the Liki Tiki Village offsite if we can't get 7 nights using DVC. Above are the rates they charge.

Tip #3, thanks!

Tip #5, I'll have to check out suits. I din't even think to get a suit for the baby silly as it may sound.

For #4, I figured since we'll have a washer and dryer either way I wouldn't need to bring too many clothes for the who family. *shrugs* Someone mentioned bring many burp clothes...will do.

I forgot to add stroller on the list, but we'll be taking ours for sure. The cup idea for the tub is a good one. Thanks.

To everyone: Thanks for the best wishes! :)

Congrats on your pregnancy!

A definite :thumbsup2 for the disposible changing pads. They're great. Individual scented diaper disposal bags are also great on a trip - I think the brand we use is Sassy. We also found that hotel/rentals have tiny, tiny garbage cans, so pack a few extra large plastic garbage bags. Believe me, you'll use them.

If you have enough room in your car and will be spending a good bit of time in your room/rental, consider bringing a baby bouncer chair. They take up a lot of room, but are a great spot to feed baby if he's started solids and let him hang out in the middle of the room. Our DS actually took some great naps in that seat, and loved reclining in it when he was awake. It's safer and cleaner that worrying about him rolling off the bed or keeping him on the floor on a blanket/pad.

I also agree with a PP about bringing water and keeping hydrated while you're nursing.

Looks good, however you probably will not need your pack n play if your staying in a Disney resort.
One thing we did with DS when we went when he was 6 months old, was the toys we were bringing for him ( which were just a few) we took away before we left so it was like he had brand new toys when we were on our way. Also, they were toys that could be attached very easily to his stroller with link-a-doo's so he would not loose his toys.

Can anyone help me, I'm a single dad and grandpa with some back problems, my daughter is pregnant and will be 18 weeks when we head to WDW next week...we went to Walmart in Shelton, CT. yesterday looking for a light weight, comfortable, easy to use and low cost baby stroller, not the little strollers that look like doll strollers, but one that has a good sun hood, rolls very easilly without getting the wheels all cockeyed and jammed when turning in a tight radius, something that folds up quickly and also has a decent size storrage compartment on the bottom. Walmart only had three to choose from. The nicest priced at $168.00.

I'd like to see the handle extended long enough so when I walk behind it, I'm not straining my back and having to reach all the way out to push it while kicking the bottom with my feet. I also would like to see a hood that keeps the sun off my grandson.

My daughter has two strollers already, but they're a bit bulky and heavy to be taking on our flight. She also has one of those quick fold doll stroller types.

Any recommendations of an inexpensive one and store?

Never mind, we bought one yesterday at Babys-R-Us. We got a Chiccco stroller. It should work fine.

How inconvenient is this? I can see my DH getting upset with me because I'm trying to take everything off the table to put down a disposable table cloth. I didn't think of that, but I can see myself doing it and him not liking it.

It isn't an entire table cloth, it's just like a disposable place mat that sticks to the table (at least the ones that I have), so they just stick to the table in front of the baby. I couldn't live without these for my first baby. I second the disposable bibs and changing pads, too!

The disposable table clothes are the best. The are basically a place mat for the child. It sticks to the table or cloth and it clean up great. We keep a bag of them in our diaper bag since it's a small package that has 30. We throw everything in it and roll it up once we are done. Everywhere we go the wait staffs are extremely thankful because its a lot less for them to clean.
I would use them especially at the fast food places.

As for Sunscreen. Banana Boat Tear Free SPF 50. It comes both in Kids and Infants. i actually use it for myself now.

Your list exhausts me! :rotfl2: I'm definitely a slacker mom, or maybe baby no. 4 has fried my brain and relaxed my planning. You're not going until next May!

I'm pg. too, and will be headed to WDW over Thanksgiving week when the baby is 2 months old. I'll throw some clothes and diapers in a suitcase, use the pack and play at BWV, bring a stroller. If you are nursing I would skip the whole pump thing and just nurse, so much easier. If you have added in baby food by then you can probably supplement with some formula if you want/need to. Why 3 caps? One is enough. I doubt you'll need an add'l hat for the a/c in the car. Babies shouldn't have pillows so cross that off the list. Baby mat? Use a bath towel instead. As far as driving goes I would consider flying, having to stop for a 6 mo. old will slow your drive time down considerably.

Good luck! :)

Didn't read all the posts but a Baby Bjorn & a pacifier with a string are MOY IMPORTANTE! It gives you freedom in the parks. THen a hat & baby sunblock. For us these were valuable. We usually sleep with the baby on vacation so don't clutter our room with a Pack N Play or crib. We also like for a baby to have our own stroller that lays back all the way.

Don't take too much stuff. Most of it we never used. Can I ask why you need a breast pump when you will be with baby all the time? Or are you getting a babysitter or something? I never take a breast pump when I'm on vacation as I'm with the baby the entire time. That way I can skip bottles & all the junk that goes with that.

I will second the sling thing. We went when our youngest was 3 months, and we drove too. My sling was great! I just nursed whenever needed, I mean whenever! :goodvibes Ds slept in there too. He was probably in the sling 90% of the time we where out and about. But we did alternate a few times, when DS 3 wanted to walk. I think it is important to make sure that you have some kind of receiving blanket to cover baby when sleeping, in the sling or in the stroller. One trick I use is having a good size lightweight blanket to drap over the stroller, and then I would have a few cloths pins to keep it in place. This was great when we took DS at 10 months old too. I wouldn't bring a ton of toys either. Just a few select ones. Oh, and if you MUST bring bath toys, make them ones that are universal for in or out of water. You will be pretty busy. Good for you that you are so organized! I wish I was more like that. We are planning on going in May 2008 too! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

Lee :hippie:

We have went twice before to disney with infants/babies. the one thing i didnt see on your list was a comfortable backpack to carry all the extra stuff around in. make sure to get one that breathes in back because it will be hot in May. you dont want to be stuck carrying everything around in a standard daiper bag.
