Packing For A Baby (Road Trip & WDW)

May have been previously covered, but I would just say, don't over do the baby toys section. Bath toys, and simple play toys are not both needed. Baths are going to be in and out, and although you want baby to be comfortable in this new place, also remember you'll find many toys in WDW that you'll fall in love with, including NEW bath toys/play toys, so you'll want to leave some space for them, too!!:goodvibes

Your list exhausts me! :rotfl2: I'm definitely a slacker mom, or maybe baby no. 4 has fried my brain and relaxed my planning. You're not going until next May!

I'm pg. too, and will be headed to WDW over Thanksgiving week when the baby is 2 months old. I'll throw some clothes and diapers in a suitcase, use the pack and play at BWV, bring a stroller. If you are nursing I would skip the whole pump thing and just nurse, so much easier. If you have added in baby food by then you can probably supplement with some formula if you want/need to. Why 3 caps? One is enough. I doubt you'll need an add'l hat for the a/c in the car. Babies shouldn't have pillows so cross that off the list. Baby mat? Use a bath towel instead. As far as driving goes I would consider flying, having to stop for a 6 mo. old will slow your drive time down considerably.

Good luck! :)

I fear having to buy things on vacation that I have at home so I try to make sure that I have the necessary items with me. The budget is limited. :upsidedow

Also, the pillow is to put behind the baby's back to keep him/her on his/her side when sleeping. I did this with my first because I didn't like putting her down on her back or belly. That's just me. Oh and I won't be doing any type of formula.

I'm taking the pump so that DH will be able to feed the baby too. He wants to share in that sometimes and that is the only way.

As for the three hats, they are small and I doubt will take up any space at all. I just want the baby to have more than one clean thing even if it's a hat. Plus all styles of hats will be different. The fitted cap is for the car. I see my 11 year old bunch up with blankets in the car while riding down and I suppose the baby can get a little chilly too.

I didn't know resorts rented out PnP and things like that, but since I've been educated so I will take advantage of that.

Oh and as for toys, I decided to take two small ones that attach to stroller/carseat and I'm doing the cup thing for the bathtub that someone suggested early.

So my baby's list is done!

I loved my Maya Wrap baby sling www.mayawrap.com You can even BF the baby while they are in the sling -- very handy. Great rides/attractions for feeding the baby include -- Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, Carousel of Progress, Spaceship Earth and anything else that is dark and air conditioned! The Baby Care centers are great for resting and feeding a baby, too. I don't know that I'd lug along any bottles or a pump. If you and the baby are both there, you shouldn't need to pump at all. Let me tell you, it is WAY more convenient to nurse than it is to pump. If you think you might need a pump for some reason, I'd just bring a handheld one (e.g. Avent Isis), not the full heavy electric pump. Feel free to PM me with other BF related questions. I've taken a nursing child to Disney 3x now!

Oh no! No pump will be going into the parks. The pump will be used at downtime should DH want to feed the baby. That's all. I'll be nursing as needed inside the parks as it is easier. We're used to not taking anything into the parks so I'm going to try to limit what I do take in for the baby. Thanks!

Well, I'm still impressed by your level of planning!

One thing you might want to talk to your ped about.....from looking at the size of your older child one thing may have changed since last time you had a baby, they are now NOT recommending the pillows that allow babies to sleep on their sides (those wedgie things), it's now supposed to be back only. I've run through the gamut over the years: firsborn told that baby should be on stomach only, second born told to use the pillow for side sleeping, third born back only but pillow okay, and now for the soon-to-born fouth it's all back only. Of course by age 6 months it may not matter as much for you or your baby. But having known 3 SIDS moms, it has made me stop and think and want to do what's safest.

Have fun!

I tried to post, but my internet died, so if I wind up with two posts, that's what happened.
Here's what I wanted to say.
I know you said DH wants to help with the feeding, but it will only be for your vacation that he wouldn't, and even then he could be the one to feed the baby the cereal. The pump and stuff are such a hassle (this is coming from a mom who pumped at work). Also, you listed snacks and several other food items. If the baby will be six months old (I think that's what I read), you will not be giving all that much food. Our ped reccomends starting solids at 4-6 months, but I have to say from experience that I would wait until just before six months. Many people have trouble maintaining their supply after they start solids. Also, if you are BFing, you won't be giving juice then either. I don't think we gave DS any juice until he was 9 months or maybe a year.
I've seen plenty of babies in just swim diapers, you only need a suit if you want the baby to look cute. We like the Coppertone baby sunscreen, and started using it with DS at around six months.
I feel like a lousy mom when I look at your list. We just took DD who was two months at the time, and we took hardly anything. Isn't it funny how different people are?

:goodvibes We took our 4 month old last year in June. Make sure that you have (1) a comfortable backpack. I kept the most essential things in there and I took it with me everytime we left the stroller for rides. (2) a light blanket to cover the stroller. The sun can be brutal and the sheet always kept the sun off the baby without getting her too hot. (3) A BATTERY OPERATED STROLLER FAN! This was an absolute lifesaver. It ran constantly for the baby. With the sheet over her stroller, she had her on A/C and she could sleep very comfotably. Bring extra batteries too. We had to change ours almost daily.

Have a great time! I was a little worried this last trip because I had never taken a small baby that was still breastfeeding. It went very smoothly. I found plenty of good places to breastfeed. The Baby Centers at each of the parks are nice to use too.

I'm so glad you posted this question because I am definately adding clothespins & a stroller fan to my list of must haves!

I also got info from another thread about ordering diapers to have them delivered to the resort & now I have that all set up.

Yeeha to all the Disers who know so much!

You know what? That's why the pump is on my list. I have no idea what will be going in my body and I want to be prepared. I live over at the LLL forums trying learn a lot. Trying to keep a steady flow of milk, decreasing and increasing it...pumping for relief and the list goes on and on. Thanks for that advice. Also, about the solids my DD was eating solids early  I didn't know any better and I'm so glad I didn't mess her up :lmao: . Honestly, I think I'll be too afraid to leave the pump home :sad1: . Odd as that sounds it's the truth. I'll be pumping at work so I figured to keep on schedule or to keep up period to take the pump. Maybe I should start a new thread about this. Any other advice please share it.

Thanks for the sunscreen advice. I've got 4 brands down including yours. Have to figure out which one will be the best for my baby.

I just like to be organized that's all. I'm a serious spazz when it comes to planning out anything. I'm one of those people, before we leave for vaction, at the front door thinking about what I forgot to do even after I've got my lists down. Damn those Passporter Club planning sheets! :rotfl: They've got millions over there and I use all of them.

Actually, the more I think about it, you might need the pump anyway since you'll need to get the milk for the cereal (it's been a while since I did this). I just have a love/hate relationship with my pump so I avoid it whenever possible. We started DS on solids early too, and that's why I would advise against it. My supply started dropping as soon as he did. He was also diagnosed with Failure to Thrive at 20 months. It was very scary, they tested him for all sorts of things including Cystic Fibrosis (he's doing fine now, but is very small). We used his growth charts and can trace his slowed growth to when we started food, and when he finally weaned. Our NP reccomended that I wait until just prior to six months to start food with DD, and that I nurse as long as possible. You'll have to see what your DR reccomends though, they're all different.

I agree with everyone about the baby carrier or sling. It was so nice to have DD attached to me on the rides. As dumb as it sounds, I am always afraid my kids will fall out of the ride (don't worry, I know I'm nuts).

Did you have a breastfeeding thread? If that was you and you have questions, or just want to commiserate, feel free to pm me. I nursed DS for 11 months and worked full time, and I'm nursing DD now (going back to work in August). It can be really hard at first, and sometimes it's nice to know that someone else has been there too.

I just talked to my pediatrician about solids (my baby is 16 weeks & exclusively breastfed since birth) & she said right around 6 months & that she is now encouraging moms to start with square bits of potato & sweet potato so that it is more about hand eye coordination than nutrition. That a baby can survive & thrive on just breastmilk for almost the first whole year if desired. This made a lot of sense to me & I'm going to try this. My first kid I was so excited we started her on rice cereal at 4 months. Then the second we started on rice cereal at 6 months. I thought the 6 month start went a LOT better than the earlier one. And rice cereal is SO gross. I have a problem feeding babies things I wouldn't eat myself.

All that being said, my baby will be 6 months at WDW & with free dining we'll be eating a lot of TS meals with her in a high chair. I'm planning on starting her on solids at WDW as long as things are going as well as they are going.

As the above poster said, BF can be tricky, please get all the help you can so you can stick with it.

Getting way off the original thread, but my dd is 13 months and was excusively nursed until she was almost 9 months. I started her on solids then. She has always been a "eat what mom eats" kid. She HATED baby food and cereal, but will eat EVERYTHING with the exception of raw broccoli. She is 26 lbs and 30 in tall and loves to eat. Wait as long as you can to start solids. It really does decrease your supply and your baby is getting better nutrition from mommy milk!

I used this with my dd in Disney and currently use them with ds. I bought the disposable cups, place mats, bibs and spoons. I put a placemat, a bib, a spoon or fork, a napkin and a couple of wipes packages in the cup and put the cover on. I throw a few in the diaper bag and car and whenever I need one I pull it out. I reuse the spoons and cups if they are not nasty but I dont care if I loose them

target sells them already together but I make my own because the target ones dont fit in the cup
