Packing food in luggage

I second the idea of bringing some food for the flight! We were more organized on the way down than on the way back. I had packed everyone their own little ziploc bag of sandwich, chips, grapes and cookies on the flight out, but didn't have the ability to do that on the way home. We had a lot of snacks for the flight home, but my kids definitely needed something else and somehow the $10 meal that NW was serving was just not going to do it for them. I discovered that my kids cannot eat goldfish crackers and Nutter Butters for dinner and be very pleasant!

We always take a food suitcase everywhere you know because my motto is "be prepared". The TSA opened ours last year NYC-SLC) and repacked it better than I did.

I am surprised no one had mentioned this, but have you considered shipping your snacks down to the hotel before you leave?? We did this last January. DH works for the "big brown" shipping company so he could tell me exactly how many days in advance to ship my package so that it would arrive the morning of our arrival. I needed to bring along some special foods for DS's food allergies and DH's Atkins diet. It really came in handy. I packed a medium sized box with wheat-free bread, 1 jar of Goober grape, chocolate rice milk(shelf stable), Atkins bars, juice boxes, and other assorted snacks and treats. It all came in handy. I packed my kids fanny pack with a juice box or two and a few snacks every morning. I also carried a few snacks for DH and myself. (But of course, there are times when nothing but a Mickey bar would do!!). I highly recommend that. Any UPS counter can tell you how many days it takes from your area to a certain zipcode. Just be sure to take into account that there is no Saturday or Sunday regular delivery. And call the hotel to be sure it is okay with them and to ask them to have it ready for you when you arrive.

ANOTHER THING..... I had no food packed in my checked luggage, but it got inspected on the return flight. I had food packed in my carry-on for both legs of the trip to FL and back and it go no more than a quick x-ray! So there goes that theory! YES, I packed an entire picnic dinner for my family of 4 for the trip down. I knew we wouldn't have time to eat during our connection in PA and didn't want to end up with a hungry, cranky family. So I packed a great picnic, including soda, juice boxes, etc in a soft-side cooler bag and used it as my carry-on bag. I just made sure that everything was in disposable containers, so I didn't have to worry about carrying dirty tupperware with me!! After we ate I just folded up the cooler bag and put it in my DH's carry-on!...P

I have never even considered that, and probably would not. The cost would outweigh my time to stop at the store.

I don't disagree, but since I needed to have some "specialty" foods on hand for allergies and diets, it was worthwhile to me!......P

They don't sell the stuff in FL? If it works for you, then I think that is wonderful. So far, the only thing I cannot find in FL is Dee's cereal.

I ship a box every trip. It's mostly drinks (juice and water) and also some snacks that won't get crushed. We also ship things like DS's pool floatie, sunscreen (diapers when he wore them), toiletries and other misc. items. Fed ex ground offers the cheapest rates, so you can send a HEAVY box for less than $20. It sure beats stopping at the grocery store and paying their outrageous prices and being rushed since you only get 30 minutes.

Not to argue here, but, the prices in Florida are much less expensive than here in sunny CT or on LI. I pay a very reasonable price for the water in FL, 12 BIG bottles for 5.00, juice, since it is made there is very inexpensive, but I can see where sending it would save you time. We rent a car, so, it is not a big deal for us.
We don't have children, so, the floatie is not necessary, the other items are carried in my checked baggage.
I have also heard the Disney resorts are going to stop accepting guest deliveries. I read that in passing, so I don't have specifics.

Like I said, if it works for you, that is GREAT!!!!

Actually I can get 24 bottles of water here for about $4.99 on sale. Juice is juice boxes, which I get free after coupons. I have about 14 boxes of Capri Sun's that I got for free (as with most other snack/breakfast items, including cereal which DS loves to munch on). I have a five year old, and to navigate through an unfamiliar store with him rushing to find the things I need would just be a nightmare!

I believe that package thing is a rumor. I heard that a couple of years ago, and nothing ever became of it :)
