Our garment bag measures right at 45"linear, but I am not certain that it will fit in the overhead compartment. For those of you that travel with dress clothes, do you use a garment bag? Do you carry it on or check it? Does it do a good job of protecting your clothes? I have found hard sided garment bags that I like, but I'd rather not spend $300+ dollars for it if I don't really need it. Thanks!

I've always checked in my garment bag. My bag is soft sided though. It does help with keeping wrinkles away. I just hang the bag up as soon as I arrive at the hotel. My bag also has corner pockets that I can place my shoes in.

I went to V&A on my last trip but didn't take a garment bag. I packed a dress that I could hang in the bathroom to steam the wrinkles out of, a jacket that wouldn't wrinkle, and packed my shoes in the carry on. :)

They have ironing boards and irons at the mods and deluxe resorts too. Just pack something you can get the wrinkles out of, and save $$$.
