I just noticed my ticker at the bottome! I only have 2 months and 2 weeks! I have a lot of sewing to do!!!!! I am still working on minnie dot dress! UGHHH!!

Thank you for this!

I don't know why, but it is a really scary step to take. She has such a long strange medical history that it is really overwhelming to even think about seeing new doctors. I am going to sit and really pray about this tonight. After reading what you read, I am wondering if the next time she is having bad symptoms if I should maybe just take her to Mayo ER.

Her doctors and their nurses think I am crazy. I really feel sorry for anyone who has been told it's all in their head. When you are already frazzled and scared it really makes you start to doubt yourself. I have had those moments and then I snap out of it when I see my 10 year old laying around the house like an elderly woman because she feels so yucky!

I'll let you all know if I make a break for Mayo in the near future. I'll take my computer too so I can give updates.

I am a pediatric nurse. What bothers me about this as a professional, is if they do truly think this is all in her head, they should be sending her to get evaluated by a psychiatrist. They are failing you in that way as well. Not to think or say that I agree with this, I totally believe you and Riley, I am just saying that your physicians are failing you all over the place. It is important to have a good rapport and faith in your MD. My second son has had some serious issues in his past. One of the specialists actually called our pediatrician to make sure we ( the parents ) were legit. He told us about this, and told how he told those questioning us that not only were we legit, if anything, we waited too long to voice concerns, or illnessess. Anyway, the absolutely best thing about our pediatrician, is when my son started having these specific problems, he actually said to me, " Well I have read about this, but not seen it in my 20 years of being a doctor. I'm going to send you to someone else, because I do not feel comfortable" I was so glad he spoke the truth, and totally trust him for being so honest. I know how tough it may seem to think of switching while Riley has such an extensive history, but try to think of it as getting 3rd or 4th opinions:) You are a Mom, and trust me, Moms really do know when something is wrong. Your feelings and concerns should be properly addressed until you are satisified. Even if it's something you don't believe ( like them saying it's in her head) it should be followed through and correctly assessed!!!

I am now getting off my soapbox.

To me that is a sign of a good dr. when they know they can't treat some one because they don't know enough about it. When Nikki was dx'd with Celiac her ped said he has tested lots of kids for it but none have come back with it positive( it is hard to get a positive result in a kid). So he relies on me and he has now done his own research if he has questions about it. Luckily with Celiac all we need to do is keep her gluten free.

LOL! My Ruffler and I had a disagreement yesterday :rotfl2: . . . I'm making DD some super-swishy pants (as she calls them), they're just easyfits with a ruffle cuff, but - the ruffle was a chore. I'm happy to report though, that I WON the arguement with the ruffler!!! :thumbsup2 I re-did the ruffle 4 times (on each cuff!!!) But it all worked out. Not sure if I'll ruffle today, my house work is neglectged.

I was wondering if anyone has a favourite camping spot in Western PA, or Michigan (not too far north) or even OH? The kids are missing their Dad like crazy (OK, me too!) and they want to go camping in the USA (DS says he NEEDS Berrry, Berry Kix cereal - we can't buy it in Canada) I thought I would book a weekend somewhere - it's so hard to make a decision by looking at a website . . . We have a tent trailer and would prefer to have an electric site, and a great place to swim! Oh, and shopping nearby would be great!!!

I'm off to drop the kids off at Daycamp, will be back after going to buy some thread (at the lousy fabric shop in town:()

I love that dress, so twirly! I love how everyone was matching but not exactly the same.

Welcome home Steph! We missed you! And I'm pretty sure that is not the first time you've been CASEd! Not even the first time I'VE CASEd you! (can anyone say Ariel peasant top?) I love the pictures from your trip! I hope you start feeling better soon!

Well, the Ariel peasant top wasn't entirely my idea. I took the the big faced princess idea someone else had and applied to do the peasant top instead of a jumper. But I know what you're saying. Thank you very much! :flower3:

I am working on dds birthday outfit I'm calling it casual fairy princess. It's a mccall costume pattern but I'm using cotton instead if satins. I also went to grammys after work today and cut out the strips for 2 stripwork jumpers. Grammy is 89 and doesn't like cutting so I do that part and she is going to sew them together.

That sounds great. I bought a costume pattern to do exactly that but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have a neighbor that has a little boy with a metabolic disease. He is 3 years old and is not expected to live past the age of 6. He is nonmoblie, nonverbal, and needs lots of extra help. They are in the works to get a Make a Wish trip to WDW this fall. I would love to nominate them for the next Big Give.
I think this sounds like a great family!! But, you'll have to PM revrob about it. I think she has something else in the works for the next big give, but I'm not sure.

She is SUCH a cutie! I was trying to figure out who she reminds me of. Then, I realized she reminds me of pictures of my SIL when she was little!

I love her outfits, very cute!

Teresa: Kelly's sister was Eden, not Eve. My sister can verify as we watched it every afternoon and I braided her hair like that all through high school.

Tessa: good job on the pillow! Your mom made an excellent bulleye's dress too, I just love that red paisley.

The kids had a great time and yes, I am still sick. I had to take Megan to the doctor today though so maybe I will get there tomorrow. I am going to ask if I can go to an ent because I am tired of putting up with this foolishness.

Poor Megan has been to the doctor three times because of a wart on her chest that is red and crusty but "looks normal." They are pacifying me by finally sending her to a dermatologist. Doctors make me so mad, and I have little problems, so I can't imagine how frustrated and angry Denise and Heather must get at them!

Oh, and it's my anniversary too. Here is the first thing I sewed in ten years:

th_100_1502.jpg
You're right, I knew Eve didn't sound quite right! I agree with Teresa that we really need to see that picture of your sister!

I read Tessa your comment on the pillow and she's very pleased that "Megan's mommy" likes it!

The kids look so cute in their "Maid of the Mist" raincoats and I love Megan's 4th shirt!

I can't believe you're still sick! Yes, you need to get to a specialist ASAP! I get frustrated when they say a mole "looks normal" when it definitely does not. Henry has a really weird looking one that the doctor said looks fine, too. Hopefully they listen to you at the dermatologist!

Happy sewing anniversary!!! I guess we both started at almost exactly the same time!! Love Jacob's hair in that picture!

For the older boys shirt he is 8 and not really into characters like my kids are so I was thinking about making his shirt blue like his brothers but have the sleeves collar and place where the buttons go (placklet) (see I am a fast learner! :rotfl: not only did I use the word I am trying to actually use one!)Any way, the collar, sleeves and maybe the plaklet have the Mickey material or should I go with my original thought and have the front of the older boy's shirt the Mickey material and the sleeves and plaklet be blue. The back of all 3 boys shirt will be the blue. My sons is all the Mickey material.

I think it would look cute if you just did the collar and the placket with the Mickey fabric and did the rest in blue. If he doesn't really like character stuff, that might be the best way to go. But, he'd still match!

What a bunch of cuties!!! I agree with Teresa that we prefer the big pictures!

Heather- The idea that I saw for Jenna's room: The bed is set into the wall and there is a second roll out bed under her bed that is disguised as a drawer. On the sides of the bed are sets of shelves and drawers. Inside the bed area the picture showed "curtains" hanging all around the bed on the inside. I added the second bed part and the shelves and drawers part. It was very brightly painted, but I'm thinking of doing a painting of trees and flowers and stuff.
I hope I am picturing this right because it looks GORGEOUS in my head!:rotfl: Are there any pictures of it online? I love to get new ideas for our "next" house!

I've seen the beautiful outfits made for the "Big Give" threads and had to come over and check things out. I'm sorry that I don't have the energy tonight to go through the entire thread. I did want to come over and just say hello and be in awe of the amazing-ness. :)

Anyways, amazing work here everyone!!! I wish I had little girls to be putting them in princess dresses! I keep telling my boys that I'm just going to make them my princesses! DS3's not thrilled with the option I have to say.

Have a wonderful evening!
:welcome: Thank you so much! You can make cute, but masculine, things for your boys, too!

So, Mason, bad guy, or just misunderstood? I think he was misunderstood.
Definitely misunderstood! Wasn't his dad (CC) the guy that played the grandpa on the OC? He was definitely bad on that show!
There was a cute guy on Santa Barbara that I just got a picture of in my head. But, I can't remember who he was.

I love this dress! It turned out SO cute and Lydia did a fantastic job picking out the fabrics! That daisy fabric matches the border in Tessa's room!!

We should all start making outfits to coordinate with the Happy Meal toys! Next up: Polly Pockets!
Now, get busy!
I pointed out Lydia's Wall-E dress to the girls working at the theater, and they didn't seem overly impressed, although they did say it was cute. I mean COME ON! How many people come in to the theater in our little bitty town wearing a WALL-E dress to SEE Wall-E in??? :confused3
I just started a dress for Tessa last night. I am now going to call it her "polly pocket" dress! :thumbsup2

What is with those girls at the movie theater? I wouldn't be too offended, considering how most of the people in that town dress...

Let's just say there was a severe downturn in fashion after KMart closed.

There's are my beautiful girls!! I told you already, but I LOOOOOVE Lydia's dress! I love the way the striped fabric goes with the "paradise" fabric. It's just beautiful! Arminda's skirt turned out VERY pretty! What a cute little friend she made, too! LOVE Corey's tied. VERY cool! He is such a good sport to match his sisters, and be happy doing it. Even David looks very dapper! Cool frog! :thumbsup2

I'm still working on those twirl skirts! One down, one half way done. I think for the other two girls I might not do patchwork. Man, that is a lot of work! Who knew??:confused3
I knew!! That's why I've never done a patchwork twirl skirt!! :rotfl: I can't wait to see them when you're done!!

:grouphug: For denise & Riley and everyone who is having health issues. I've had a dr. tell me I was "making things up" What a jerk!!! I can't believe some dr.'s
Yay, can't wait to see the casual fairy princess outfit!!!

Yet another uncaring doctor tale, this is WAY too common! I'm still waiting to hear back from my hematologist on some of the things he was going to "look into" for me, a year ago.

Teresa and Heather So glad to hear grandma is doing better and home. I have been praying for her all week.
 Thank you!

We love going to Fort Custer Recreation Area in Augusta, MI! It's a beautiful campground! There is a nice lake for swimming, but no pool. Here's a link to a little bit more info.

I am now getting off my soapbox.

Unprofesional just about sums up the whole situation! I have said many times that I am o.k. being told they don't know, but don't tell me there is nothing wrong. Riley was really upset the other day and asked me if I thought maybe she was just imagining this whole mess and I just got so furious. I told her just what you said. I told her that they don't know her and if they really thought that they would be having her see someone that she could talk to and that person would make that call. I called the office one day and offered to do anything they felt they needed to do to prove that this was real. I told them that I would leave the room and they could talk to Riley alone, they could schedule therapy appts., I would talk to a therapist, they could talk to friends and family, whatever! They said "that won't be necessary.":headache:

The nurse called yesterday to give me the results of Riley's last culture. I told her that she still hadn't gotten much releif from the (3 day:sad2: ) antibiotic that they prescribed. She said "well call us if she gets a fever or her back hurts." I was really irritated and said "I've been telling you for 3 mos. that her back hurts so I don't really know what you want me to do." She just said, "o.k." and got off the phone with me. A little while later she called back and gave Riley 2 more days of antibiotics. The good news is that last night Riley said she was doing better so we'll see now.

Thanks for the soapbox speech! I appreciate it. I wish you lived near me because I would take you to our next appt. so you could tell the doc. that!

I love my pcp! She treated her for a while and then just said that this was over her head and referred us back to the pediatric urologist. I think that Riley is just a bad case of falling through the cracks. They have this normal formula of what they do for bladder infection kids and it's not working for her. There really doesn't seem to be much place for a kid that doesn't fit into the puzzle spaces.

I have been talking to a patient advocate there and I told her how disgusting I think it is that Riley got sooooo much attention when she had her tumor. I had to actually ask them to keep some of the interns away from her because we weren't sleeping at all they were visiting so much in the hospital. She was like a freak show. I actually found out she was having surgery by overhearing a doctor bragging to somebody about how "awesome" it was and that "the tumor is the size of a basketball, this is gonna be great!" Now that her problem isn't something these guys are going to get to write a paper about I don't seem to be able to find any help. I guess a kid in pain isn't as exciting as a giant tumor.

Oh my! Are you serious a dr said that about her op? My Jersey attitude would have went ape !@#$ on them!

Thankfully she is feeling better but if it happens again go to the Mayo clinic but maybe in the mean time look around the net and maybe find a better ped urologist.

Do you have copies of all of her records and lab results? I always keep mine and my kids because I had some issues with drs so this way if i need a 2nd or 3rd opinion the original dr never really needs to know so they don't feel slighted.

I called Mayo clinic yesterday. I am waiting for a call back from them today. I also called my insurance. To get it covered I will have to get my pcp to make an out of state referral and then they will decide whether or not it will be allowed. I have mentioned it to my pcp before and she didn't think it was necesary so I am hoping that I can convince her that it is time.

I need to get a full copy of Riley's chart. I have tried in the past and they have sent just bits and pieces. I was trying to get it about a year ago because I think that they have things about me written in there. I am wondering if that is why I am having trouble getting treated. I am going to go next time and watch and make sure they are copying every single page!

I would be throwing a HUGE fit at this point if they are denying you her chart. Doctors are required by federal law to provide a FULL copy of patient records. You may have to pay a copying fee depending on the stae, but the MUST give it to you if you ask. I know this b/c my aunt almost died vdue to a hospital error and they were afraid they were getting sued so a nurse told my uncle that only doctors had access to charts. My cousin is anurse and knew they were just covering their you know what. She demanded the chart and got it. When she did it was clear what had happened.Keep trying!!!

WOW! I just can't even imagine a dr. bragging about an operation! I thought that only happened on TV. And I CERTAINLY don't understand why they won't give you her medical records. That's just insane!

They will give me her chart, they just make it as difficult as possible. The law is that they have to give it to me, not that they have to be pleasant about it! I have to go and wait while they copy it for 20 cents a page. Her chart is about 4 inches thick so we are looking at a couple of hundred dollars at least!

Last time I was trying to get it, the school nurse told me that they would send it to her for free so we tried that. She gave me what they sent. About 3 pages that were half empty. I was a little irritated.

I am going to make sure and get the whole thing no matter what. They kept telling me that I don't need this and that, but I want every scrap of paper copied that is there.

I remember being mad at that point, but more than that I was happy that they were doing it. Until that moment we had been told that surgery wasn't possible because for the first several weeks of her life they thought the tumor was made of blood vessels. It wasn't until the biopsy that they thought they could remove it.

I actually really disliked that doc the whole time I was in with Riley, but just out of desperation I found him on line a couple of weeks ago and emailed him about what is going on to get his opinion of the docs and hospital. I was more than shocked when he called me the next day and talked to me for an hour! He was in his fellowship at the time of Riley's surgery and as sick as it sounds, a big case like that can make a career. He is the head of pediatric surgery at a major hospital now.

Well. I thought we had taken care of the ant problem and last night I moved a hamper in the corner of the room and found it FULL of ants. There is a crack in the wall (no doubt from the sinkhole) and the ants were filing in through it. This was at 12:00 at night at the same exact time that Lily pee'd on my dryclean only bedspread!!! UGH! I vacuumed up what I could of the ants then focused on my pee'd bed. I said I didn't know what to do w/ the laundry basket, I didn't want to move it outside but I didn't want to spread the ants to anywhere else in the house and I had just loaded the washer. He said, well they don't seem to be going anywhere but the laundry basket so just leave it until tomorrow, I'll take the day off and we'll figure it out.

I can't get the bug guys to call me back, B doesn't want to spray chemicals in the house anyway (we don't use any chemical cleaners in the house or our yard) AND we aren't supposed to fix the cracks and stuff from the sinkhole b/c they have to document how much they've changed since we filed the claim and do an estimate for repair. So I can't caulk the cracks that are letting the ants in...I think, but my public adjuster is also not calling me back.

OKay, that said. I meant to tell ya'll that we saw wally on the 4th and it was great. We loved it. JUST loved all of the innuendo's. We also bought Monster's Inc. yesterday. We hadn't seen it since it came out in the theatre. i forgot how good it was. Lily was totally captivated. She was really upset when Boo went back home.

Speaking of my little liliana. You know, she doesn't usually get to surf the dis w/ me but last night we were in bed and scrolling through some pages on her dad's blackberry (can you say addict?:confused3 ) and she said "Who is that mama?" I said "THAT is Tessa, she sewed that pillow all by herself" She said "I LOVE TELLA! She's my best friend." I said "her name is TeSSa" She said "I know, she's my very favorite friend and I love her" Then she called her Tara.:rotfl: :rotfl: I'm sure she'll figure it out though.

Okay. I was trying to figure out how I want to make her storybook twirl lastnight. I was considering "appliquéing" The panels onto fabric cut the dimensions I want the skirt. instead of trying to add pieces in between and at the top and bottom. B/C of the "book" format one side doesn't have the 1/4" seam allowance and some of the designs are close to where I'd need to sew it to another panel if I just heat-n-bond them on and zig zag around the edges I could eliminate this problem and they wouldn't be off center like I think they will if I sew the strips together. Does anyone have any reason why they think this will not work? I only have 2 weeks to get her minnie dot dress and the storybook twirl done and I have to finish my big give outfits too ( I cut them out last night:thumbsup2 ) WHY do I do this to myself.

Also, I found a pair of jean overalls in the boys section of sears. The character stuff was all 50% off so bonus. They are Cars themed and have an appliqué of lightning on the bib. After I got it ( I was in a hurry) I realized that the appliqué is right on the bib, there is no pocket so...I could cut it off and back it w/ another fabric and put my appliqué over it..OR like any other nutcase I could set it aside and get some cars fabric for it and just make her minnie dot bodice and ditch the overall idea until I get the cars fabric?????? I am inclined to do the latter but I already have an outfit planned for every park:rotfl: Of course we are going to WDW again the second weekend in Aug. SO why should she have to wear a Disney custom twice:rotfl:

See what you've all done to me?

HEATHER, I must've come to this thread in July too...b/c the first thing I made was the cuties dress for Lily's 2nd birthday and she turns 3 in 2 weeks. I still have some of that fabric. Maybe I should make her an anniversary dress too:rotfl: I remember those minnie dresses you made the girls, my how much they've all grown!

I guess that's all for now, I'm off to the photo bucket to look at the storybook twirls. I can't decide if 3x full is going to make it hard to see the panels. I am now wishing I had a pink or white or blue pettis (HINT;) )

We are off to see Kit today! Riley has been waiting for 2 years for this movie to come out. We are going with some friends so this should be a lot of fun! I'm just glad to be getting out of the house and not because I am driving to the doctor.

You ladies have a great day!!!! I actually started got all of my stuff organized and started sewing last night. Hopefully I'll have some pics to contribute soon!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Just coming out of lurking for a moment...

Twob4Him: My dd is 8 and tells me she is too old for ruffles. Now, I don't think she is, but I try to respect her wishes and make clothes that don't have a lot of ruffles. I could still make them, but it'd be a waste of time because she would not wear them. My youngest will tell me she doesn't like them but will wear them occassionally.

As usual, I have enjoyed looking at all the outfits ya'll have been posting. I have especially enjoyed the Wall-E customs though. I wanted to make one, but didn't know what to do with the green fabric that is out there. I ended up making one out of regular fabrics. Anyway, here is what I came up with.... (Pic is posted with permission of the child's paents and I am distorting her face per parent's request.)

Please let us know what you think! We may go see it tomorrow or Friday. AbbyGrace is LOVING all things American Girl lately.

BTW! Did anyone get the new AG catalog in the mail yesterday? I am SO EXCITED! They've come out with more bitty twins! Now I can get AbbyGrace the bitty twins that are ASIAN! WOO HOO! I'm thrilled! This is the reason we buy AG - they have dolls that look like my DD. (Did you see this, Cindee?) SO, it looks like bitty twins will be on the Christmas list!

Oh man what an ordeal! Just an fyi form lessons learned if you ask for copies as they happen you don't have to pay a per page fee.

Good luck! with getting into the Mayo clinic! If your dr doesn't recommend it cal your insurance and fight it. Sometimes you can file things with insurance to get them covered. We had an issue when Nikki needed her endoscopy. And We fought to have it done at the hospital that her dr was out of but her dr didn't have rights and the other dr in the practice doesn't like to do them on other drs patients. in the end we convinced him to do it and the day we get back from her scope we had a letter approving it at the other hospital! UGH!
