I have had seceral people approach me about simple alterations--hemming and such. What do you think I should charge? I called around to some cleaners and they chrage between 11 and 15. I was thinking 5. What do you guys think? Most people are my friends but if this spreads then I want the price to make some profit but don't want to gouge my friends either. Is 5 too low?

The tailor I use charges $20 to hem pants. It drives my DH crazy that I sew but refuse to hem his pants... I HATE hand-sewing and I'm always afraid I'll end up with uneven pant legs! :rotfl:

NO SHE ISN"T TO OLD FOR IT! I say let little girls be little girls as long as you can!

I think she looks cute and if she likes it and is enjoying matching her sisters then I wouldn't change it!

:
I think it just depends on the girl. Your DD looks cute in the top and I don't think it looks to little girly for her.

I am with the others that it looks cute on her and if she still wants it then let her wear it. And, if she doesn't mind matching her sisters keep that up too.

I think it looks great on her. What's most important is she looks like she loves it. Zoe will wear ruffles but they just can't be too frilly.

She absolutely is NOT too old for ruffles! She looks so cute and not silly at all! I say let her wear them as long as she wants to!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT!!! :goodvibes I just wasn't sure if it was too young for her....I do dumb stuff like that all the time. I really appreciated the feedback and so I will continue with the other two dresses and enjoy the girls while they are young! :thumbsup2

Here are some more pictures from our June trip.

The AMAZINGLY TALENTED Lisa made these for me. SOOOOOOOO GORGEOUS!!!!!!:worship:

Yaaaaa!!! She did a great job! My DD isnt quite patient enough to sew yet...we tried a few things....but she isnt as enthralled as I am with sewing! Tessa.....I love your fabric choices and your pillow is just adorable!! Three bananas girl~~~

Too OLD for ruffles?!??! Never :)
:goodvibes agreed!!! thanks!

I think the top looks fine. It's not that fru fru ruffle. And belive me! When she is too old for ruffles, she WILL tell you!
I am just dreading that day!

We LOVED this movie! We all thought it was really good!
Oh look you answered my pm question right here :rotfl:

Ok, here is Lydia's dress. She spent a lot of time "shopping" in our basement for the fabrics she wanted me to put with the Wall-E fabric. I think she did pretty good, although, I pushed for the flower fabric! I used Carla C's Simply Sweet halter dress for the top. I made the back go up a bit higher than was on the pattern. I wish I had tightened the elastic some more. I might redo that part and put in adjustable elastic like LisaZoe once recommended.

It came out just beautiful! :woohoo: I love the colors! And Lydia looks so cute too!

Whatever cost you decide to charge DO NOT undercut yourself. You have to make your labor cost advantageous for you or you'll essentially be working for free.

Thank you for this!

I don't know why, but it is a really scary step to take. She has such a long strange medical history that it is really overwhelming to even think about seeing new doctors. I am going to sit and really pray about this tonight. After reading what you read, I am wondering if the next time she is having bad symptoms if I should maybe just take her to Mayo ER.

Her doctors and their nurses think I am crazy. I really feel sorry for anyone who has been told it's all in their head. When you are already frazzled and scared it really makes you start to doubt yourself. I have had those moments and then I snap out of it when I see my 10 year old laying around the house like an elderly woman because she feels so yucky!

I'll let you all know if I make a break for Mayo in the near future. I'll take my computer too so I can give updates.

Denise, I'm just astonished that your dear girl has had such a tough time of it. Bless both y'all's hearts.

The tailor I use charges $20 to hem pants. It drives my DH crazy that I sew but refuse to hem his pants... I HATE hand-sewing and I'm always afraid I'll end up with uneven pant legs! :rotfl:

I've sewn my ball gowns but the thought of a hem scares the heck out of me.

1) Yes, I remember a photo in her band uniform with her hair braided like that, oh she was the height of coolness! I wish I could find it but I think she would definitely kill me if I posted it.

2) Definitely misunderstood. His dad was such a jerk, he couldn't help it.

3) I guess I'd better get him to write back. In one of the e-mails Arminda told him to stop having me write them so that's why he is stalling. He's a hunt and peck kind of typer so he'd rather have me type his dictation, lol.

Too many Lyddys? Never! Gosh, she reminds me of my sister when she was little, that same little pouty face. Soooo cute!

I never made it over to Tampa to look for Wall-E fabric. Maybe this week T will be up for a road trip. We saw the movie in PA and loved it and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. We missed the beginning so we have to see it, right?
1.)Well, does your sister ever read this thread? I swear, I won't tell her if you post her picture!
2.)Yes, I agree, he was a real jerk! Even my Mom agreed! What was his girlfriend, the ex-nun's name, you know, the one that married the ex-priest?
3.)She told me she was just trying to encourage him!

We need to see a picture of your sister! Like I said, we need to see the movie again too, because I have to make Arminda a dress!

I've sewn my ball gowns but the thought of a hem scares the heck out of me.

I don't remember seeing pictures of these ball gowns. Are you holding out on us??!!?

Oh look you answered my pm question right here :rotfl:

It came out just beautiful! :woohoo: I love the colors! And Lydia looks so cute too!
Yep, we saw the movie! :thumbsup2
Thanks for the compliments!

That is gorgeous Teresa!

Why yes how did you know ? no it was Jayedyn's B-day outfit (LOL)

cute i love the wall-e fabric

We should all start making outfits to coordinate with the Happy Meal toys! Next up: Polly Pockets!
Now, get busy!
I pointed out Lydia's Wall-E dress to the girls working at the theater, and they didn't seem overly impressed, although they did say it was cute. I mean COME ON! How many people come in to the theater in our little bitty town wearing a WALL-E dress to SEE Wall-E in??? :confused3

Thanks so much for all of the compliments everyone!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

waughzee...I have been searching through all of my pictures trying to find some close-ups of your bows but I can't seem to find any!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sad2: I can't believe that I didn't get one single close-up shot!!!!!!!!!!:confused3 :rolleyes1 SORRY!!!!!!!!!!:sad2: Your bows were SOOOOO ADORABLE though!!!!!! And they matched perfectly too!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2 THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!:worship: Can't wait to get more for our October and December trips!!!!!:goodvibes

I also made the kids matching Paradise outfits. We thought the material looked like paradise.

I made Corey a tie to match from a pattern we found on Burda Style I think I put it in the bookmarks. The bottom isn't all wonky like it looks in this picture, it was hanging crooked! I was very careful to make sure all the corners matched up! :

Lydia is fascinated with this frog they have in the Seagate Center (in Toledo)! As she pointed out to me, there is a Disney Land sticker on the suitcase!

I wore a green top and skirt the color of Corey's shirt so I would coordinate. But, alas, I have no pictures of myself! Which is probably just as well!

wow those are awesome i love the tie ....;)

I'm still working on those twirl skirts! One down, one half way done. I think for the other two girls I might not do patchwork. Man, that is a lot of work! Who knew??:confused3

OK, so I'm ruffling my life away here assembling these things and now I see the point of the ruffling foot! (Not that I didn't see the point before, I just wasn't sure I needed one)

I was wrong!:scared1: Much needed now. Or yesterday even!

Does anyone know if there is a foot that fits my machine? I have a Brother EX-660. Also where I can get it?

Also, my heart really goes out to the families with so many serious health issues! You are all so supportive of one another and the way the world is now, it's heartwarming to see people being so compassionate, caring and unselfish.:grouphug:

You go girls!!

I was thinking earlier today that I don't have enough stress in my life so I decided to bite off more than I can easily chew. I have had an idea floating around in my head for a while and today I threw caution to the wind and prayed that some pixie dust would come flying back at me.

stitchapplique003.jpg

I love Stitch. I think he is just so cute and lovable despite his tendency to get into trouble. :stitch2: :stitch2: :stitch2: :stitch2: :stitch2: :stitch2:
This is my first pieced applique. I have no immediate plans for this piece so I put it on plain white fabric for now. I still have to give him some teeth and claws and outline his arms/hands/feet better.

Sorry, he seems to be sideways. He is straight in photobucket.:confused3 :confused3 :confused3[/QUOTE]

He's so cute. You did a great job.
I wanted to thank you all for your prayers for our Grandma this past week. It was a pretty stressful week for us all! Our family, except Heather had planned to go to Toledo for a convention this weekend, but when Grandma went into the hospital, we thought we'd cancel. But, on Friday, Granma insisted that Mom go. We worried about her so much! On Saturday, when we called to see how she was doing, we were told her bloodpressure was way out of wack after they took her off some of her medications. They told us not to come home, but Mom and I were just worried sick. Then, right after our session was over, my Dad's cell phone rang (my Dad's cell is only for emergencies) and Mom and I were petrified, and sure that someone was calling to tell us that Grandma had died. Thankfully, as you all know, they were calling to tellus that she was doing better! I thank you all for taking the time to care about us.

I sewed a few outfits this last week, one for Wall-E, and matching "paradise" outfits for the kids for our convention. I didn't get very good pictures of the kids all together in their outfits, but I will try to post them soon so you can see. They turned out really cute, I think!

Teresa, I'm so sorry your Grandma has been ill. I don't always get to read all of the posts so I'm either behind or I somehow manage to miss a page or something. Anyway, I'm glad she's on the mend now.

:lmao: That's the same thing Tessa does! She's always wanting my scraps and then she tapes them to her pictures and such.

:rotfl:

Love all the outfits posted !
thought i would share what i have sewed lately.

Love the big photo and they boys zoo customs but especially the traditional rhino statue photo!

Brian decided to take to see Wall-E last Wednesday, so I had to get busy and sew a dress for Lydia out of the material Stacy got for me (thanks Stacy!). But, then, Arminda said SHE wanted a dress out of the material too, and even had a design all worked out for it! SOOO, the dress I had planned on making Lydia got changed up a bit, and Arminda and I tweaked her plan so that we would have enough fabric for both dresses. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to finish Arminda's, but that's ok, because now, we will go see it again after I finish her dress!!! We LOVED this movie! We all thought it was really good!

Thank you so much for sharing! Your kids are all dolls but I love the expressions on your DD - especially the one above. I hope you all had a great trip.

I am working on dds birthday outfit I'm calling it casual fairy princess. It's a mccall costume pattern but I'm using cotton instead if satins. I also went to grammys after work today and cut out the strips for 2 stripwork jumpers. Grammy is 89 and doesn't like cutting so I do that part and she is going to sew them together.
:grouphug: For denise & Riley and everyone who is having health issues. I've had a dr. tell me I was "making things up" What a jerk!!! I can't believe some dr.'s :scared1:

Great to see Spongiefamily back!! Looks like you made it through all the birthdays in one piece!

I love all the outfits sorry I am too tired to comment individually tonight. But you KNOW it was ALL FABULOUS!!!

And welcome to all those returning from Vacation- We have a bunch of new friends!! :flower3:

I am no expert in the ruffle foot area but i do know you need to know what kind of shank you have. I called brother to find out mine and I have the low shank. So i recommend calling brother directly.

QUESTION/Advice

I am making bowling shirt for my best friends 3 boys (1 set of 6 yr old twins and a 8 yr old) and I am torn on what to do.

I wanted to make the boys match Kyle's bowling shirt.

IMG_4502.jpg

so this is what I have for the 6 yr old twins so far
DSCN0816.jpg

I am using a pattern I made from one of Kyle's shirts so hopefully it will work out. Now for the question. For the older boys shirt he is 8 and not really into characters like my kids are so I was thinking about making his shirt blue like his brothers but have the sleeves, collar and place where the buttons go (placklet) (see I am a fast learner! :rotfl: not only did I use the word I am trying to actually use one!)Any way, the collar, sleeves and maybe the plaklet have the Mickey material or should I go with my original thought and have the front of the older boy's shirt the Mickey material and the sleeves and plaklet be blue. The back of all 3 boys shirt will be the blue. My sons is all the Mickey material.

Any advice on which I should do I am really torn.

Any advice on which I should do I am really torn.

I vote for just having the trimmings be Mickey for the older boy. He's still match but it will probably get you a better chance of him liking/wearing it if it's not all Mickey.

I have finally caught up again! I have been working for the past 7 days straight! At the Disney Store. Apparently, people planned on coming to our store on their vacation! The nerve! We had lines to the door! It was craziness. I hopefully have today off as I NEED to sew! And go to Hancocks! And Hobby lobby. I am going through withdrawals!

Teresa and Heather So glad to hear grandma is doing better and home. I have been praying for her all week.

my2tinks Riley has been in my prayers as well. I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon. My mom went through many years of an illness until they finally diagnosed her with Lymes disease. She got it at the beach (we think). We lived on Long Island where the deer and tick population was at great heights. Think about taking her to Mayo. It breaks my heart she is in so much pain.

spongie Love all the outfits, but especiallythe little pet shop. My dd would LOVE that! If I had time, I would make one for my friend's dd who is having a LPS party this weekend! Of course, then DD would get mad I didn't make her one!

I know I missed a lot but I just read thought a lot of pages! Hopefully I won't have to work the next 7 days....although I have some spending money now!!!!
