I started work on my cindy applique and I need HELP!!!!!!

I pretty much have it sorted out except for the eyes. Here is what I have so far:
DSCF0036.jpg

and here is what I am working from:
bigcindyface.gif

I tried a pice of white material for the eyes appliqued with black thread, but i think it was just too small I couldn't bget the outline to look right. Should I just hand embroider them or is there a better way I don't know about?

Here is what I would do. Applique the whites of her eyes. Then layer and applique the blue in her eyes. Do the outline and lashes by hand. BTW - she's looking great!!

You guys have inspired me to TRY and teach myself to sew (my mom is great at it so I do have help available). What would be a great starter sewing machine that doesn't cost a lot?? I'd love any suggestions you can give.
Thanks!!
Amanda

I love my Brother CS6000i from Walmart. And don't forget to go to YouCanMakeThis.com They have some great sewing videos for learners.

what janome do you have? I have a friend that loves hers..
Lori

My Mother has a Janome and LOVES it. It's a simple model, years old. But thier sergers are crap. She never cared for the Serger, but that was what she bought. About 18 months later, the motor burnt up and she'd have to pay almost $400, with the warranty, to have it fixed. She paid that to begin with.

I haven't posted much because I've been pretty busy w/orders but this is my latest petti. It's called a Petite Petti, and this one was made for a customer who wanted something special for her little one to wear when she meets Cinderella.
petitecindy.jpg

I swore I wouldn't make another one. But I think I might just give it another try.

HEY! We need to try to meet up at some point! I'd LOVE to meet another DISer
.

We'll have to see what we can work out!!

My mom gave Nikki her petti skirt this weekend and now she wants me to make her one:scared1:
DSCN0792.jpg

Ok so part of me wants to brave making one for her too.. But I am VERY nervous.

I need to get my ruffler foot before I attempt one though.

My ruffler broke just as I was getting started!! I almost died. But I was using a tricot chiffon and it was pretty easy to work with.

Everyone:
You know ever since I posted that pic of my DD10 in her Hershey Park twirl top and everyone commented on the ruffles....hmmmmm now I am wondering if she is too old for ruffles.... I never considered the prospect of that! I'm not really fashion conscience...do you think the top looks ok on her for her age??? Here's another pic in case you missed it!

IMGP5992.jpg

( PS...she is goofin around in the pic with the sunglasses and hair band...and also she seems to have no issues with wearing the ruffles.....but hey, what do we know??? :confused3 ;) )

I was more thinking along the lines of having the three all matchy matchy....I really need honest opinions on whether or not you think she is too old for this top! Thanks everyone!!! :goodvibes

I think the top looks fine. It's not that fru fru ruffle. And belive me! When she is too old for ruffles, she WILL tell you!

Hello, I am back!

Teresa: Kelly's sister was Eden, not Eve. My sister can verify as we watched it every afternoon and I braided her hair like that all through high school.

Tessa: good job on the pillow! Your mom made an excellent bulleye's dress too, I just love that red paisley.

Denise: I need to send you a pm, I have a friend with some of the same struggles. I hope things looks up for you and Riley soon.

Love the "megan pants!" I think that's the first I've been CASEd. I am so proud! Lily looks adorable in them.

Cindee: I live 20 minutes from Tampa, just saying.

I did read everything but that's what is sticking in my mind right now.

On to the pictures!

Here are the kids on the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls:

IMG_0603.jpg

Here are the kids at the parade with their cousin. Yes, most of the attractions in the parade are dressed up semis, why do you ask?

IMG_0604.jpg

My MIL surprised us all with matching shirts that we had to wear on the 4th so Jacob didn't get to wear the shirt I made for him. I cheated and put Megan's top over her shirt. Later we snuck her off to a strawberry patch; the smell was heavenly:

IMG_0615.jpg

The kids had a great time and yes, I am still sick. I had to take Megan to the doctor today though so maybe I will get there tomorrow. I am going to ask if I can go to an ent because I am tired of putting up with this foolishness.

Poor Megan has been to the doctor three times because of a wart on her chest that is red and crusty but "looks normal." They are pacifying me by finally sending her to a dermatologist. Doctors make me so mad, and I have little problems, so I can't imagine how frustrated and angry Denise and Heather must get at them!

Anyway, back to my laundry and such. I don't know how much sewing I am going to do this week, but I sure do love looking at the creations. Hey, maybe I will update all my pictures to the disboutiquers photobucket account: I have been meaning to do that!

Oh, and it's my anniversary too. Here is the first thing I sewed in ten years:

100_1502.jpg

I used a paint pen on the edges of the star because I was afraid to appliqué. That's at the same parade last year: I didn't notice the sign in the window until I think Teresa pointed it out!

QUESTION/Advice

I am making bowling shirt for my best friends 2 boys (1 set of twins) and I am torn on what to do.

I wanted to make the boys match Kyle's bowling shirt.

IMG_4502.jpg

so this is what I have for the 6 yr old twins so far
DSCN0816.jpg

I am using a pattern I made fro one of Kyle's shirts so hopefully it will wrk out. Now for the question. For the older boys shirt he is 8 and not really into characters like my kids are so I was thinking about making his shirt blue like his brothers but have the sleeves collar and place where the buttons go (placklet) (see I am a fast learner! :rotfl: not only did I use the word I am trying to actually use one!)Any way, the collar, sleeves and maybe the plaklet have the Mickey material or should I go with my original thought and have the front of the older boy's shirt the Mickey material and the sleeves and plaklet be blue. The back of all 3 boys shirt will be the blue. My sons is all the Mickey material.

Heather- The idea that I saw for Jenna's room: The bed is set into the wall and there is a second roll out bed under her bed that is disguised as a drawer. On the sides of the bed are sets of shelves and drawers. Inside the bed area the picture showed "curtains" hanging all around the bed on the inside. I added the second bed part and the shelves and drawers part. It was very brightly painted, but I'm thinking of doing a painting of trees and flowers and stuff.

iluvwdw4ever, I love looking at your pictures! My son was just commenting that it's cute that the kids are dressed alike. I told him we can do that next time, and he said "uh, no." He's 16. :lmao: I do think we need to see more bow pictures though! ;)

Hi Everyone! I must say that I'm in awe of your amazing work!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I've seen the beautiful outfits made for the "Big Give" threads and had to come over and check things out. I'm sorry that I don't have the energy tonight to go through the entire thread. I did want to come over and just say hello and be in awe of the amazing-ness. :)

If anyone makes bracelets, I'm looking for an "extra special" bracelet from my DMIL as a Christmas gift. If anyone's up for the challenge, please PM me and I'd be glad to purchase something off Ebay. Not thinking of anything fancy-just something special for her to showcase her grandchildren (three boys). She likes bracelets like the ones that you buy the glass beads (I think-shows you how much I pay attention to things like this!!!)-maybe it's called pandora or something??

Anyways, amazing work here everyone!!! I wish I had little girls to be putting them in princess dresses! I keep telling my boys that I'm just going to make them my princesses! :rotfl2: DS3's not thrilled with the option I have to say.

Have a wonderful evening!

Thank you for this!

I don't know why, but it is a really scary step to take. She has such a long strange medical history that it is really overwhelming to even think about seeing new doctors. I am going to sit and really pray about this tonight. After reading what you read, I am wondering if the next time she is having bad symptoms if I should maybe just take her to Mayo ER.

Her doctors and their nurses think I am crazy. I really feel sorry for anyone who has been told it's all in their head. When you are already frazzled and scared it really makes you start to doubt yourself. I have had those moments and then I snap out of it when I see my 10 year old laying around the house like an elderly woman because she feels so yucky!

I'll let you all know if I make a break for Mayo in the near future. I'll take my computer too so I can give updates.
It really sounds like you should go for it. If I am in tears reading about poor Riley, I can't even imagine what you must feel like.

Love all the outfits posted !
thought i would share what i have sewed lately.

So, Mason, bad guy, or just misunderstood? I think he was misunderstood.

I will let Arminda know that you guys are back. She says she's sent TWO emails, and hasn't got an answer yet. I had to remind her that you guys have been gone!

I love the pictures! My Mom took Corey to Niagara Falls a few years ago and they went on the Maid of the Mist too. Corey had a great time.

I have had seceral people approach me about simple alterations--hemming and such. What do you think I should charge? I called around to some cleaners and they chrage between 11 and 15. I was thinking 5. What do you guys think? Most people are my friends but if this spreads then I want the price to make some profit but don't want to gouge my friends either. Is 5 too low?

I think $5.00 might be a little too low. You said you called the cleaners but also call a tailor & some retail stores (Belk, Parisian, Dillards, JCPenney) in your area to see what they charge as well. I know they charge a different price for items not bought in their store but then you will have a wider price range to go buy. But, I'm thinking maybe $7 or $8

I'd charge your friends $8 and charge others 10-15.

Wow, I lost a week going to Disneyworld and when I came back,I was down 88 pages!!! I spent all afternoon catching up! All of the Fourth of July outfits are wonderful!! The Big Give outfits are great as well. I have a neighbor that has a little boy with a metabolic disease. He is 3 years old and is not expected to live past the age of 6. He is nonmoblie, nonverbal, and needs lots of extra help. They are in the works to get a Make a Wish trip to WDW this fall. I would love to nominate them for the next Big Give. The little boy's name is Brayden. He has two sisters, Martha, 5 and Abigial. 6 months. The family moved from Maine to Georgia just so they could see a specialist that can treat Brayden. Brayden's parents are seriously devoted to their son and do everything in their power to help him. They would be a wonderful family to help.

Brian decided to take to see Wall-E last Wednesday, so I had to get busy and sew a dress for Lydia out of the material Stacy got for me (thanks Stacy!). But, then, Arminda said SHE wanted a dress out of the material too, and even had a design all worked out for it! SOOO, the dress I had planned on making Lydia got changed up a bit, and Arminda and I tweaked her plan so that we would have enough fabric for both dresses. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to finish Arminda's, but that's ok, because now, we will go see it again after I finish her dress!!! We LOVED this movie! We all thought it was really good!

Ok, here is Lydia's dress. She spent a lot of time "shopping" in our basement for the fabrics she wanted me to put with the Wall-E fabric. I think she did pretty good, although, I pushed for the flower fabric! I used Carla C's Simply Sweet halter dress for the top. I made the back go up a bit higher than was on the pattern. I wish I had tightened the elastic some more. I might redo that part and put in adjustable elastic like LisaZoe once recommended.

1) Yes, I remember a photo in her band uniform with her hair braided like that, oh she was the height of coolness! I wish I could find it but I think she would definitely kill me if I posted it.

2) Definitely misunderstood. His dad was such a jerk, he couldn't help it.

3) I guess I'd better get him to write back. In one of the e-mails Arminda told him to stop having me write them so that's why he is stalling. He's a hunt and peck kind of typer so he'd rather have me type his dictation, lol.

I never made it over to Tampa to look for Wall-E fabric. Maybe this week T will be up for a road trip. We saw the movie in PA and loved it and I wouldn't mind seeing it again. We missed the beginning so we have to see it, right?
