Actually it's funny that you say that. Last night he told me that he was going to apply for a job at the prison that they have in Jena, LA. I asked him what changed his mind and he said, "I want to make sure that we can pay for the house when your grandpa gets it built."

Sounds just like my dh! I swear that sometimes he just says things because he's in a grouchy mood and wants me to be in one too! He denies it, but I know better.

How exciting to build a house. We are in a tiny house and go back and forth about moving or staying. Right now we are leaning towards staying and buying an RV!!!! We love to travel, so we don't want to get tied up in a big house payment and not be able to use our extra money for fun.

Here's a great tutorial for pettiskirts: http://www.marthastewart.com/portal...110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextfmt=default

It includes the yardage needed. The best fabric to use IMHO is a knit/tricot nylon. Wovens can be used but you'd need to find a way to finish the cut edges so they don't fray. The tricot nylon won't fray and is very soft.

It's always so sad when girls reach the age where they say no to ruffles. I can still get away with small ruffles at the hems but nothing too fancy for Zoe. On our recent DLR trip, I think she'd have preferred jeans or shorts and tees. Luckily I did the packing so she had few options that weren't the clothes I'd made for her. LOL Of course once we got home and I mentioned finding a new home for some of these, she suddenly decided she loves them. :rolleyes1

You know ever since I posted that pic of my DD10 in her Hershey Park twirl top and everyone commented on the ruffles....hmmmmm now I am wondering if she is too old for ruffles.... I never considered the prospect of that! I'm not really fashion conscience...do you think the top looks ok on her for her age??? Here's another pic in case you missed it!

Zoe sounds just like Drew! I think they are about the same age too. When I try to get rid of toys that Drew hasn't played with in ages and ages they suddenly turn into her "special" toys and she informs me that she hasn't been playing with them because she is saving them. That is why our garage sale toys escaped while she was at school! The only thing that she has even noticed missing (out of 3 car loads of toys) is the Strawberry shortcake house and dolls. She was saving them so she could smell them later. I need to sell my house and just move us into a big storage shed!

That's too funny. I can't get the kids to throw out anything. DH is a pack rat of the worst breed and he always sides w/ them about not getting rid of stuff they love. He is specifically to blame for a large number of stuffed animals that can NOT be gotten rid of. They don't know I just weed them out a little at a time while their not looking. DH has every guitar magazine he ever bought, they take up like 6 storage containers. I have a little house and I hate clutter so it drives me NUTS!!! He hasn't even looked at them they just sit in boxes. But it's one of those battles I visit rarely as it never results in them getting recycled (I tried to tell him it was his environmental and social responsibility to get rid of them!) and always results in a pouting husband.

I haven't been on all week. I have been dealing with life and that has depressed me emensely. :

Isn't that why so many of us are addicted to disney in the first place? It's better than the real world much of the time.;) I am sorry that you are going through this. I know that when we were going through financial troubles last year I left the board but got a few e-mails urging me to come back and I'm glad I did. The girls here were so encouraging and sympathetic and sometimes were able to lift my spirits a bit. I hope you hang around. ON the bright side, it is very nice of your grandfather to help you get into a better home. That sounds exciting. Will you be building it yourselves? Try to focus on the positive things like that and remember that this too shall pass.

I haven't been on all week. I have been dealing with life and that has depressed me emensely. DH has a job that doesn't pay near as much as he used to make and he won't find another job, even though he promised me that he would. The financial burden is falling on me and I'm currently in school so there just isn't too much that I can do. I already work two jobs, plus I sew. So, I spent the weekend with my grandparents and they let me vent about my problems. Yesterday I dug 7 post holes for my grandpa, who has been sick, for his new porch that he is trying to build. I'll be back out there later this week to help him put the posts in the holes and then start on the porch. He has given DH and I a piece of land on his property for us to build a house. He is even going to get us the loan to build the house. He has already drawn up the plan for the house and it will be a huge difference to what we are living in now.

I have been lurking, just been too far down to post.

I do want to give hugs to Riley  . I hope that the doctor gets his thumb out of his booty and does something for your angel.

I love all of the outfits that have been posted this week. It looks like everyone had a great fourth of july.

And Hello and Welcome to all of the Newbies. :cheer2:
I am sorry you are so down. Hopefully your DH will snap out of his silliness.
How sweet of your grandpa to give you some land!

NO SHE ISN"T TO OLD FOR IT! I say let little girls be little girls as long as you can! i can't stand all the Brittany Spears clothing out there! If your dd likes it and she certainly looks like she does then I say let there be ruffles!!!!!!

Some kids just out grow fro fro stuff early. My mom to this day gets mad at me when she links about how in kindergarten I decided I was never wearing a dress again! And I didn't until college! Looking back she should have slapped me and said too bad!:rotfl: shh don't tell her i said that!

That is why she LOVES that Nikki is all into the girlie stuff still since she lost it with me so young.

I think she looks cute and if she likes it and is enjoying matching her sisters then I wouldn't change it! Soon enough she will be too cool for everyone :cool2: and you'll need these sweet memories to remember her by.(because may be moments you feel like killing her) :headache: My dd is only 2 but from what I have heard and remembering my own experience, teenagers are not a pleasant bunch so what I am saying is let her be little and until she doesn't want ruffles anymore!

 Sorry about the hard times! I get pretty down sometimes also. Coming here helps with my stress. That is great about your grandpa giving you some land! My DH drives me crazy too. He seems to not realize that once in a while I need a BREAK!!!! He usually leaves home at 7:30am and twice a week has school after work and once a week has a hockey game after work and on weekends does homework. The two weeknights we do see him, he's still not home from work until around 7:30. :sad2: Sometimes I just want to go to the store without 4 kids in tow!!!

I think it just depends on the girl. Your DD looks cute in the top and I don't think it looks to little girly for her. My DD is almost 11 and she still asks for ruffles on things I make her. I don't always put ruffles on but sometimes I do. I'm trying to make her some more "grown up" skirts. I just made a skirt for her friend who will be 11 in a couple of weeks and she picked a pattern with ruffles (the peek-a-boo skirt even). I just want her to be my little girl for as long as I can, but I do realize that it wont last.

My uncle will be the one building the house. He owns his own company. It's called Strong Built Construction. My grandpa will be overseeing the entire project. He wants to make sure that everything is done correctly. He used to be a contractor himself. He's just not up to building a house here lately. DH and I will be doing the painting and stuff like that. I have a really cool idea for Jenna's room. I saw it at Home Depot. I'm excited to get the house built, because it will be mine and not just a rental with plain white walls. I will get to add color and decorations.

I think this looks adorable! As in good and not too old for her. Now if she didn't like it or said she was too old for it then I wouldn't make it but I believe she loves it! She sure looks like she does.

I am with the others that it looks cute on her and if she still wants it then let her wear it. And, if she doesn't mind matching her sisters keep that up too.

I think it looks great on her. What's most important is she looks like she loves it. Zoe will wear ruffles but they just can't be too frilly. Unfortunately, she has a friend who loves to help Zoe assess her wardrobe. This girl (A) has a sister in high school so A seems to wear styles a bit more toward that end. Nothing inappropriate for her age but much more fashion conscious. I think Zoe would be fine with most things as long as they aren't too "fancy" but I think she's already concerned about her "image". For example, I wouldn't do the layered ruffles on a dress for Zoe such as this one:
snow_white2.jpg

Luckily most of her friends seem envious that I sew for her. Instead I'd do simple back with a ruffle around the bottom. I'm still trying to find a good balance between what I like on her and what she thinks is "her style". :rotfl:

Another lurker (sorry "window shopper" ;) ) here checking in.

I've been admiring everyone's creativity and talent for some time now!

So......once my post count gets up, I'll post pics of the patchwork twirl skirts I'm making. I adhere to the "slow and steady wins the race" school of thought when it comes to sewing. Some Home Dec in a Sec curatins took me three days!

Adding to my time-issues, is the fact that I have 4 daughters and if you make something for one....you know how it is. And believe me, it's a slippery slope! They think I can make anything! I think I'm gonna ride that wave for as long as I can though.

So thanks everyone for all the answers to questions you didn't even know I had! :goodvibes

PS ~ A big :worship: to whoever maintains the bookmarks (Heather?) I LOVE them!:thumbsup2
I am SO honored that you chose us for your very first post!! :cloud9:
:welcome:!!!

Teresa does the bookmarks and I help her with them every once in a while. I've been slacking lately and that's why there's so many extra bookmarks that aren't categorized! Thank you for saying you love them. That really means a lot to us!

And I happen to have heard a rumor that Spongie and Utahmama just might be going to Disneyland the same time as I am so I'm hoping to see them on here whipping up some customs!!!!

YAY!!! I'd love to have them back!!

Auto immune diseases are awful! I know with Celiac it takes an average of 10 yrs in the US to dx it and most drs have no clue what you are talking about if you mention it.
I know what you mean! I was dxed with my autoimmune disease during my first hospital stay. Come to find out I was one of the lucky ones because lots of people don't get diagnosed until they have a stroke, or worse.

My mom gave Nikki her petti skirt this weekend and now she wants me to make her one:scared1:

Oh my gosh, she looks SOO pretty! No wonder she got so much attention in Chicago!

Finally charter got our Internet connected too almost 2 months.Talk about dis withdraw lol
we got moved and settle poor, dh had to do most of the moving himself,I fell and broke my foot the third trip so I have pretty much been layed up.But at least it wasn't my sewing peddle foot lol I will try and get some pics of all that I have made if my model is willing.

You guys have done some wonderful work.I am at least going to look in photo bucket to try and see everything.
Welcome back! It's a good thing you didn't break that sewing peddle foot! :lmao:

She absolutely is NOT too old for ruffles! She looks so cute and not silly at all! I say let her wear them as long as she wants to!

let there be ruffles!!!!!!
Where's the tag fairy!? :rotfl2:

I know this is totally off topic but..

Does anyone here know anyone that's had a liver transplant?

Here are some more pictures from our June trip.

Karebear: I don't know anyone, but I have to ask you why you are asking?

I let Tessa use the sewing machine for the first time yesterday! She picked out some fabric at JoAnn and some ribbon. She wanted to make a "fancy dress" with them, but I talked her into starting out with a pillow! :lmao:

She did SUCH a great job and she was so giggly and excited. It was so cool to teach her about something I love!

She pinned the ribbons on the fabric, just how she wanted them and she got them pretty straight. She was in charge of steering the fabric while I pressed on the foot pedal. I think her favorite part was using the string cutter on the side of the sewing machine. Here are some pictures.

Putting in the stuffing (I just let her tear apart an old pillow and use the stuffing).
