I wanted to show you these for 2 reasons......
1) I know how scary it is to have someone you love go through something so traumatic. I wanted you to see how sick Riley was at the time and show you how quickly a body can heal itself. I know every situation it different, but Riley's prognosis was pretty bleak. I didn't listen to it though. I just knew she had to get better!
2) The incision for Riley's surgery is most likely what a liver transplant patient would have. She has a huge honkin scar, but that is a small price to pay obviously.
This is Riley at about 2 1/2 weeks old. We had just brought her home and at the time there wasn't much hope. We just wanted to have her home some before she got too sick. At the time of this pic. her tumor was about the size of a softball.
This is Riley right before they took her for her surgery. She had already had a biopsy and even then they really didn't know if it was something that could be removed. We were just running out of time because it was getting so big. Her tumor was about the size of a football when they removed it. Chris actually went with her oncologist and held it. I didn't!
This is the first time we saw her after 10 hours of surgery. To us she looked beautifu!
This is the day we went home. I took her clothes all off and just stared at her. Chris wasn't even at the hospital when they discharged us, but I wanted out so bad I carried her and all of the stuff we had accumulated in the 7 week stay out in 1 trip!
Finally! Just a normal baby, looking at her fist and going cross-eyed!
I just wanted to show you what amazing things can be done. Riley has taught me to never ever give up hope! God can see us through anything. I honestly believe that too. I felt his pressence the whole time Riley was sick. I think he kept me from really absorbing the seriousness of it all, because if I had, I think I would have crumbled into a heap on the floor.
My prayers are with you, whatever is going on in your life.
