:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: Our Disney store just CLOSED this weekend. I am so sad. The closest one now is over an hour away, not really a drive I need to make with gas over $4 per gallon. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

We had two close this year, within three months of each other. And the closest one is over an hour away as well. Not fair I tell you.

I have not been doing much sewing lately, but I finally got a chance to the past 2 days. Here is what I have been working on. No particular reason, just thought they were cute.

HeatherSue,
thanks about the shorts! I read your trip report I can't get over what the photographer said! That is unreal! I would file a complaint! That is very in Disney like behavior!

After I read your tutorial I ended up looking at al my old sewing stuff ad I realized my mother in law YRS ago taught me how to applique and I found something I did way back when. So once I finish all the sewing stuff i have planned I will try to appliqué something. Right now i am thinking something VERY easy maybe the Mickey icon and maybe adding a bow ad making it minnie to go with the minnie skirt I REALLY want to make my dd and my niece for Chef Mickey/s We'll see. I know me if I get to far ahead of my self with plans I will feel overwhelmed and give up and not do aything so I am trying to keep that in the back of my mind:confused3

WOW! You put so much detail into these outfits. They are just too cute! Your kids are absolutely adorable! I want to make Tessa and Sawyer some matching cowboy/cowgirl outfits because they both really love Jessie and Woody from Toy Story.

I know!! It was awful!
I haven't filed a complaint because they don't seem to care so much about customer service anymore. But, we probably should.

I cannot get distracted on here this morning!!!!

I think I need a trip to the disney store, sounds like a great outing for tomorrow since it has been decades since I left the house!

Love some of the new creations! Only scrolled quickly, so later I am going to go back through and actually read more!

I hear you but I really think it is who you talk to and file the complaint with. When we switched our ressie over from a REg resie at POR to the DVC at SSR the 1st person I talked to was nasty and said we couldn't get all of our deposit back since we took trip insurance. I told her I just want it transfered to the new ressie at SSR. Seh was all nasty and refused to do it. well I called back and got a wonderful rep and after holding for over a half hour she apologized all over the place and said no problem she will refund us ad then just add it to our new ressie at SSR. We were puzzled as to why they wouldn't just switch it since it wasn't like we were canceling our ressie we were just switching to a dvc we just bought so in fact they were pretty much guaranteed a vacation from us of almost 50 yrs and with our 1st ressie as dvc owners they were going to give us a hard time! Any way it all worked out so I say voice your complaint and try a few times if it doesn't work the 1st!

HeathersueI read your TR and let me say that that photographer was a big Poo Head!!!
That was totaly unprofessional no matter where it happened, but it sorta makes it worse at disney!!

Instructions for the shoes...sorry I didn't answer any of the posts...I've got the flu and now so do the two girls..
Anyway. The shoes are the 8 dollar leather (pleather) ones from Walmart.
I took some diluted alcohol and wiped them down and let them dry. This was to get off the greasy finger prints from anyone who's touched them. I bough rub-on's from Michaels. They have an infinate number of different things, letters, designs, themes..etc..and just rubbed on the rub-ons where I wanted them. For the ship on the front of one and the words on the back, they are just thin stickers that are very thin with a layer of clear around them. I put everything where I wanted it, and went over it with about a dozen layers of Mod podge. I used a small sponge brush and in between drying times, I put the spongebrush in a ziplock bag, to keep it from drying out. So every 15 minutes to 30 minutes I went over it with another coat. I'm a little worried about how rough miss Ireland is on shoes, that's why I'm using so many coats. But if you just used the rub-ons and not the stickers you could most likely only use 4 or 5 coats and it should be fine.
Now I've never done this before and have no idea how it will hold up, but if it's lasts for the few days of the cruise, I will be happy. If it lasts longer than I will be making more...LOL

Ok ladies (and Tom) todays project it learn to shir. Anybody got any good hints. Iread the tutorial in the bookmarks and I think I can do it. I have one question. I want to make the simply sweet halter with a shirred back instead of elastic. Has anyone doene this? How did it come out? Did you shirr the back peice and then attach or shir it after it is attached?

I've done this..but I don't know if I have a photo of it. What I usually do, is hem the top of the panel you want to shir. Just turn it under and stitch a little hem. Then I load my bobbin with the elastic thread. Now people's opinions vary. I don't stretch my elastic as I wind it on the bobbin, some people do. But hand wind the bobbin with the elastic thread and load it into the machine. This might be tricky, depending on the type of machine you use. Then set your stitch length to one of the longest settings and begin shirring. You can either premark your shir lines or eyeball it. I eyeball it..LOL. I line it up with the edge of the presserfoot, but if you do this, you will have lots of lines of shirring..so you might want to space it out a little.
When I shirr, I start at one side, go to the other, and then when I get to the end, I stop and lift up the presserfoot and stitch down to where I want the next row to be, and then continue across to the other side. This way, I only wind up with two pieces of elastic sticking out when I'm done. One at the beginning, and one at the end. You can also just do it the regular way, and stitch from one side to the other, stop and cut your threads, and line everything back up and stitch across again. Either way works.
I would practice on a scrap piece to be sure your tension is right, the stitch length is right, and the elastic isn't wound too tight, and it actually shirrs.
I can't wait to see your finished outfit. Good luck.

Oooh, thanks! I have been trying to convince myself to try shirring again after the last couple of trys just weren't tight enough (even after I steamed them) but you gave me some new ideas, so I might get brave!

Hello everyone! :wave2: I am a BIG fan of this thread even tho I am only a wannabe sewer! I have a great machine and some day I'd like to learn to use it. (I am also a scrapbooker so that sucks up most of my spare time and creative ability) ANYHOW...I come looking for help from all you talented folks :worship: My ds13 is an avid drawer and has created several characters that he would like me to (try to) make into cloth dolls. Is there a pattern somewhere? It would just be very basic...almost like a stick figure...and then he would like me to make clothes and such. I am willing to give it a try.

TIA!

Jill

There is a section just for dolls in the bookmarks. I think the Waldorf style doll might work good for what you have in mind! Make sure to post some pictures if you make one! :thumbsup2

I feel you pain, I feel your pain!
THanks Shannon. I'll load a few pics of past Disney sets and post them. I didn't get to do as many as I had planned last year because I was pretty busy w/orders up until we left. I know a I have a few I can share though.
You only need 10 posts for pictures! And, please, share anything! It doesn't have to be Disney!
Heather and Teresa...finished the trip reports to this point...Keep them coming! :rotfl: I hope you filed a complaint with Disney about your BBB/photograpy experience :furious:
I'm so excited that people are reading our trip reports!!!!!

I am excited - my daughter was wearing one of my creations in Wal-Mart. Someone stopped me and asked where I got it. When I told her I made it - she wanted one!! She just about begged me to make a couple for her daughters. So I just made two pillowcase dresses (lined) that I sold!! I have two more dresses that have been ordered! I had no intentions of selling my dresses, but she really wanted some. The two I made yesterday turned out really good. I forgot to get pictures.
I'm with Heather, this sort of thing has NEVER EVER happened to me! :worried: I'm jealous!

Honestly, I didn't mess up your car, I promise!! Just remember, the money you are putting into your car in the last few months is still probably less than a car payment and expensive insurance on a new car!!
That is SOO true!

I recognize that plastic tree trunk! I believe I've been to that mall!
I was thinking the same thing!

I am so jealous! Something like this has NEVER happened to me! I take my kids to the fabric store where I bought the fabric, wearing outfits that I made and don't get a single comment! You must be good!
I'm with you! Nothin' nada, nuttin'!!!!
UGH! I'm working on a commercial pattern right now and it's awful! I agree, they must have to pay for each word or something!
Whatcha workin' on????

:rotfl2: It does make you feel special when people comment on your TR, doesn't it?
It really does!
I'm not 100% sure, but there may be some patterns in the bookmarks (in my siggy). There is a search feature, so you can try searching for doll or something.
Heather SUE! There is a whole entire DOLL SECTION! Really now! :snooty:
;) :rotfl:

I've been wanting to shir something but haven't had the guts yet, I might just give it a try now.

:welcome: That is so cute about your daughter! You need to give sewing a try. Many of us didn't sew at all a year ago (me and 2cutekidz, to name a few)! Once you try a few patterns and see how outfits are put together, it's not so hard!

Heather SUE! There is a whole entire DOLL SECTION! Really now! :snooty:
;) :rotfl:

I KNOW that! I just didn't know if there was a pattern for a doll like she was looking for and I was too lazy to look!

Are you getting ANY of my e-mails? I haven't gotten an e-mail from you since the 16th and I've written you 5 e-mails since then! Should I start writing to your gmail account instead of yahoo? Or, are you just ignoring your dear, loving little sister?

Are you coming to mom's house tonight?

ETA: I forgot to answer you. I am working on a green with white dot dress for Tessa with accents made from that brownish Buzz Lightyear fabric. She's going to match Sawyer at his birthday party, if I ever get it done. I haven't touched it yet this week, so I guess I'll have to do that to finish it.

Ok my fellow sewers. This will be my second project I plan on starting (my first being a quilting organizer that I am almost done with and will post pictures when completed). I bought this pattern for a sundress for my DD2 and this fabric but I don't know what colors I should buy for the rick rack and ribbon. I guess I could leave if off but I kind of like it. I bought a purple zipper for the back so that's good. Joann's didn't really have any rick rack that went with this fabric. Any help would be appreciated.

I have made a few but I am going to do it Elisa's way from now on! I just ran rows of stitching and when I was finished I ran a row with regular thread stitching down both ends to secure everything. Elisa's way sounds so much better. I really like it better than elastic in the back:
