Ok my fellow sewers. This will be my second project I plan on starting (my first being a quilting organizer that I am almost done with and will post pictures when completed). I bought this pattern for a sundress for my DD2 and this fabric but I don't know what colors I should buy for the rick rack and ribbon. I guess I could leave if off but I kind of like it. I bought a purple zipper for the back so that's good. Joann's didn't really have any rick rack that went with this fabric. Any help would be appreciated.

I think dark purple would be cute, but white wouldn't look too bad.

I have made a few but I am going to do it Elisa's way from now on! I just ran rows of stitching and when I was finished I ran a row with regular thread stitching down both ends to secure everything. Elisa's way sounds so much better. I really like it better than elastic in the back:

Heather and Teresa- I just finished reading both of your trip reports and I just want to say that you two should both file complaints about the entire experience and show them the pictures too. That way they can see how miserable these people made your children.


I decided to make Chandler a bowling shirt. He decided later last night that he did not want a zebra shirt, but decided instead that he wanted one made out of some ultra bright orange dalmation fabric that I had. It turned out really cute. I did the placket in white and black dalmation spots and the rest was the orange. The little guy was so excited he took his shirt and went home early so he could change into it and show his mom. I'll see if I can't get pics later.

I think purple would be great too, but if you can't find the right shade, I'd go with white.

I am finishing up Michael a pair of shorts and I wanted to ask all of you a question.

When you are doing the hem on your shorts, do you hem it with your sewing machine or do you hand stitch them? I usually do them with the machine but I thought I would try these with the hand stitch (like mens or ladies dress pants) but I think it looks weird. So what do you all do?

I use my machine and stitch that way. I'm afraid that my handstitching will come undone.

I am no where near as talented as every one else ut when I made my sons that I posted a picture of a few pages back I did it with the machine. I can NOt sew by hand to save my life!

Also, if you steam the right side of what you've shirred it will set the shirring and shrink the elastic to help give it that "puckered" look.

Jump in, After seeing all this great stuff. I bought my first sewing machine this weekend and start to take classes in July. I dont expect to be anywhere near as talented as the ladies and Tom but figure I can maybe make a twirly skirt or make a sundress out of those pre-shirred fabrics.

I will still buy off because I just love so many of their creations and I am just not that talented but I needed a new hobby as my golf game just well its not that good

I have not been doing much sewing lately, but I finally got a chance to the past 2 days. Here is what I have been working on. No particular reason, just thought they were cute.

I haven't filed a complaint because they don't seem to care so much about customer service anymore. But, we probably should.

You really should write to Disney. I had a nasty experience at POFQ in Aug 06. It was my family of 5 plus 2 other adult friends. I had requested connecting rooms as I didn't know how well my DS would do in a room with our friends. They had assigned us non connecting rooms so I asked if they could try to find us connecting rooms. I figured we would work it out somohow if they didn't have them but it was worth asking for them. The manager came over and made a call to the room assignor who I assume suggested water view rooms (we paid for standard) and she said "yah, I saw those but I don't want to give them those. I'll call maintenance on these other rooms." So she went in the back to call maintenance and came out and said we found you rooms but they aren't ready. So we went to Epcot and called about 3pm to get our room numbers. We got back to the resort around 9pm and went to find our rooms. We got to the rooms and one of the doors was ajar and the room had no carpet and no furniture-the adjoining room had about 20 matresses in it. We're all tired and getting cranky by this point. We go to the front desk and the girl on was very nice and quickly got us assigned to water view connecting rooms (who cares about water view at a moderate resort with exterior hallways????). We had to wait a while for our luggage to be delivered. NOT a fun way to start a trip.

So the next day I saw that manager and told her what happened and she laughed. And then she told me it wasn't her fault. I was furious with her response and total lack of empathy for me traveling with 3 small children and a DH who doesn't like to travel and is not a Disney fan. I was determined not to let it ruin my trip but when I got home I did write to Disney and someone from the excutive offices did give me a call. It was nice to talk to someone about it and they at least pretened to listen and care. I don't know if my letter made a difference-if they made any changes or anything but I'm really glad I sent it.

Instructions for the shoes...sorry I didn't answer any of the posts...I've got the flu and now so do the two girls..
Anyway. The shoes are the 8 dollar leather (pleather) ones from Walmart.
I took some diluted alcohol and wiped them down and let them dry. This was to get off the greasy finger prints from anyone who's touched them. I bough rub-on's from Michaels. They have an infinate number of different things, letters, designs, themes..etc..and just rubbed on the rub-ons where I wanted them. For the ship on the front of one and the words on the back, they are just thin stickers that are very thin with a layer of clear around them. I put everything where I wanted it, and went over it with about a dozen layers of Mod podge. I used a small sponge brush and in between drying times, I put the spongebrush in a ziplock bag, to keep it from drying out. So every 15 minutes to 30 minutes I went over it with another coat. I'm a little worried about how rough miss Ireland is on shoes, that's why I'm using so many coats. But if you just used the rub-ons and not the stickers you could most likely only use 4 or 5 coats and it should be fine.
Now I've never done this before and have no idea how it will hold up, but if it's lasts for the few days of the cruise, I will be happy. If it lasts longer than I will be making more...LOL

Thanks so much! They look great! I almost decropaged fabric onto canvas sneakers for my DD's Car's outfit but then I found the perfect checker slip ons at Walmart. I had a hard time finding inexpensive sneakers in the right size. I'll have to check my Walmart again. Yours came out super cute!!!!

I also use a machine. I hate hand sewing. I even sew my buttons on by machine if I can.

Castle thanks so much for the shirring advice. I just got back from wally world toget elastic thread so I am going to try it tonight and see how it goes. I am planning to use her Wall-e dress as the test run, but I will try it on a scrap first!

Hi guys, I really hope one of you will have the answer!! DD has a pair of capris that are 95% cotton 5% spandex. She has sequins sewn down the sides of them for her dance recital. I just removed them, but sniped a bit of the fabric and made a hole. I was thinking about putting an iron on patch or something on them, but I am not sure if I can use the iron hot enough to get the patch to stick. I am not a great sewer, so stitching it on is not really an option, and I have had no luck with the glue for patches/appliques.

Any tips you guys may have would be appreciated!!

Just wanted to tell you that the pre-shirred fabrics are SUPER easy to start with. You basically just need to sew up the back and make straps! Twirly skirts are really hard (not for the advanced sewers on here but for us beginners) and I would not suggest starting there. I tried making a tiered twirl skirt from the really simple directions on the bookmarks and almost threw my sewing machine out a window when I had to gather and sew the layers together.
