SO glad your grand is home Heather. I have been thinking of you all.

So, I'm starting on my big give outfits and I have to say that I am a little nervous because I am going to do an applique. UM, more than a little. so, keep your fingers crossed for me.

We'll be staying at PORS from Sept 20-29. We've lots of ADR's, but we'd do that anyway. Well, this year. Next year, Kirsta will probably be out of the Character stuff, so we might just do a few (unless we do the free dining).

I've been waiting for the Wall-E fabric to show up around here. Nothing new yet.

HEY! We need to try to meet up at some point! I'd LOVE to meet another DISer

HEATHER! I'm so glad to hear about your grandmother. Great news!

DENISE - the autoimmune disease thing may actually be what's going on. My understanding is that they are pretty hard to diagnose, and many doctors will say it's "in your head" rather than try to diagnose one. My mom has been dealing with such an issue for 6 years now. They think that they have diagnosed it as an autoimmune disease now, but she is still dealing with flare ups. She was told several times that she needed to see a psychiatrist. It's very, very sad that dr's would treat anyone like this.

Denise, I've been "window shopping" here for a long time and have read much about your Riley's problems. One of my friend's has a dd8 who had symptoms just like Riley. She was also told it was probably in her dd's head too!!!!!!!! That is so horrible!!!!!!!! She finally took her dd to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). At the first appointment, they told her to diary for one month every single food (with all ingredients) that went into her dd's mouth along with any symptoms. It turns out citric acid is the culprit! Once they totally eliminated any citric acid, her dd's problems cleared up and she has been painfree for two years now.

I hope that you can find the source, whatever it is, of Riley's pain and that it can be treated asap. My dd13 was finally diagnosed with multiple food allergies last year after 18 months of horrible, writhing-on-the-floor, abdominal pain. It is awful to have your child hurting when you cannot do anything to help.

Thanks Sheri and everyone who has mentioned Riley here and in pms. I really appreciate it. Riley has started a new drug in the last couple of weeks. She had some pretty painful tests that showed her bladder is spasming so badly that she is having trouble emptying it. In the last couple of weeks we have been to the walk in clinic and she is to the point where she can't get anything out at all. The fact that she is getting worse is worrying me like crazy.

I am furious that there is even one test that hasn't been performed on her. I have an appt. to take her on Aug. 9th to see if the flomax is working, but I am going to call and ask for the test to be moved up. I need her to be able to go to school. She missed most of the last quarter of last year and I don't want that again. She really does love going to school!

I am really at the end of my rope. I am looking into mayo clinic, but I know that when I call they will want to know what has been done so far. If they know that there are tests scheduled they will want to wait to find out what the tests show.

There are no other docs in KC. We are going to have to travel no matter what, but I am not staying where we are. I was told that this might be all in her head and that she may just be wanting to be with me so she is faking. I was livid. I actually said... "BS" only I used the words and I don't normally talk to people like that. I know her and I know that she is not faking. She spent the entire day before our NY trip in the ER getting a cath and then vomitting from the pain meds they gave her. She has missed school parties and birthday parties. Kids don't fake things like this. She isn't faking when I find her sitting on the toilet at 3 in the morning crying because she can't go potty. If anything she fakes that she feels o.k. so she doesn't have to go to the hospital!

Well, you just got a rant from me. I'm a little stressed tonight because she'll finish her antibiotics in the morning and I know that she will get worse by night. On the bright side, Chris is home tomorrow so he can stay with Drew and she won't have to sit up there with us.

I went through something like this myself about 3 yrs ago. To give you a little background, my urine screens were abnormal through my whole pregnancy and I had horrible morning sickness the whole time. I had a complete hormone crash right after the pregnancy. 48 hrs after they sent me home I was in the dr's office and all my levels were wacko. It took 2 months to straighten me out and I was fine for 3 months. then I started having the writhing on the floor abdominal pain you are describing only my wrapped all the way around into my back and I would have back spasms too. I went through 3 different diagnosis gall stones, bladder infection, pssible kidney stone untill the internist they sent me to had me do a food diray. It was an overload of vitamin A from all the raw spinach I was eating. I was eating salad trying to diet and they were predominantly raw spinach. I don't eat dark green leafy veg and it took about a month to stop alltogether. If I eat a spinach salad I get sick still, but nit nearly like it was. I say all this to say that my primary care doctor was CONVINCED I had post pardum depression and it was all in my head, that I was making myself sick for attention. I uderstand your fustratiuon and will be praying for you. Keep going to doctors untill you find one that will help your child. It took me six months to find one that would listen to me!!!

You guys have inspired me to TRY and teach myself to sew (my mom is great at it so I do have help available). What would be a great starter sewing machine that doesn't cost a lot?? I'd love any suggestions you can give.
Thanks!!
Amanda

I haven't had time to catch up on the thread yet, but just wanted to post what I made for my daughter. This is for Animal Kingdom, although I make make a skirt instead of the pants, since it will be so hot.

WELCOME!!!! I have a singer simple and I love it. It is not comuterized, and if you want a computerized one I think several ladies here have brother machines they are happy with.

a lot of people love the singer machine. you can get a great "starter" one for about $75 - $100

I got my 10 year old a great Brother6000 on overstock.com. I really think that a computerized machine is the way to go for a beginer. Riley can do really well with hers. It has adjustable speed which is also terrific for a beginer. I would look for that and automatic button holes (any computerized will have these).

I got a pretty good deal on hers and at the time there were several different models that would have fit feature requirements. I sew with a really nice Janome and while it doesn't feel exactly the same, I was surprised by how happy I was with the machine.

Good luck! This is a great place for sewers to share ideas.

That is crazy. I am 100% positive that her pain is real. I am calling first thing in the morning to get the test to see if her new meds are working moved up. I need the to understand the urgency. She needs to be straightened out before school starts. I need to know asap if we need to schedule an out of town trip to another doc.

Honestly though! Postpartum depresion that gives you bladder infections. That's a very crazy diagnosis! I always tease Riley about "faking another positive culture for an infection." We try to laugh about it because if we don't we'll cry!

I have the MC4800. At the time it was the top before you got to the embroidery machines. I am so glad that I didn't buy the embroidery. I really thought it was something that I would want at the time, but now I really don't think I would use it enough to justify the $4000 cost!:scared: And that was the starter model.

I really really love my machine. It was seriously worth every penny!!!!

Very cute! I agree about the skirt though. I always melt in AK.

I love my viking. I just adore it. I had it a week and then realized it was the most perfect machine for me ever!! It is amazing how when you first start sewing on something, how much you just love it!

and with your daughters problems, have they done any mri's or back scans.... have they looked at disks at all?

They've looked at her from every angle! I'll ask specifically if they have looked at her disks.

I sometimes think that her body just doesn't work right because of how caddywompus everything is. She had a 4 lb. tumor that was the size of a football removed when she was 6 1/2 weeks old. When they took the tumor and most of her liver her organs shifted inside her body. Her intestines are where her liver should be, her liver just grew around everything so it's a weird shape, her kidneys shifted so far that everytime she gets a sonogram the lady freaks out because she can't find them! We honestly have a hard time even finding docs that will take her as a patient. Her ped. urologist just happens to be in the same group as the surgeon who initially operated on her.

Poor girl... I am sure you have, but have you had a total body panel and workup done in a children's hopital. Sometimes a fresh eye and approach works wonders. We love our Children's Hospital. just as a little story about a new approach... My son has a congenital problem that is corrected with a pill everyday for the rest of his life... but the pill can make regular symptoms and make them a problem... his immune system is not 100%, well so he was having a skin problem that was not going away with over the counter stuff... we went to an everyday dermatologist... she said oh that's not exema, just a mild skin rash.. gave us some topical mild cream and sent us home.. 2 weeks later it is getting worse, we go for our every 3 month appt to the endocrin dr.. he was shocked. he works in the children's hospital sent us straight to the ped. derm dr. that day and yeah they gave us a high dose of steriod creme.. and within 2 weeks it was all gone and we have a treatment plan for his skin etc... If I had listened to the first dr, he would have suffered longer... So I now know if the info does not sound right or there is not a good outcome on treatment.. seek elsewhere!!!!
How many dr's have you seen... sometimes a fresh approach is what you need.

Man, this thread is really slow tonight! Whee is everyone? Sewing?

Been cleaning out my stash to see what all I have to work with and trying to get everything with what it goes to. I am in the middle of working on an outfit for mysel -- got the shirt cut out and now I can start sewing it.

My mom has situs inversus and hearing about Riley's organs reminded me of this. Anyways....my mom had an episode like you are describing a few years ago, she was just in pain all around her midsection (mostly her back I think) and all she could was lay in the floor and try to crawl to get the phone. They found out that her potassium was waaaaay too high. They also later discovered that her gall bladder had "died" and where it was laying it was starting to get diseased and effect her other organs. The reason I even say this is b/c I have read other people telling you that some of their levels for certain things were too high but not potassium. She was really sick for a while but adding to her problems was super high blood pressure (which she has always had) but after they removed her gall bladder, she was fine (except for the blood pressure). I so hope that you can get someone to listen to you and Riley can get some much needed relief.

I haven't posted much because I've been pretty busy w/orders but this is my latest petti. It's called a Petite Petti, and this one was made for a customer who wanted something special for her little one to wear when she meets Cinderella.
