Well ladies & Tom, I want you all to know how much I am enjoying coming here and seeing everyone's stuff. I love seeing the intricate things that the expert sewers are doing and it's so cool to see how excited a new sewer is when they get something complete that can actually be worn! I'm not as good as some of you at commenting on all of the outfits, but I am looking and loving on my computer.

I had a really whiny day yesterday. Riley has started her bazillionth round of antibiotics and since her surgeon was out for the holiday the nurse practitioner prescribed what we have all known for years is useless. She wouldn't listen to me and give me something helpful. I am really frustrated. Riley is now spending another weekend in pain until the culture comes back on the sample she left Thursday. We are having to wait until Monday because of the holiday.:confused3

Anyway, I was sitting here feeling sorry for us all day yesterday and then I talked to a friend and we met her behind the grocery store to watch the fireworks (both dh's were working). I couldn't take the girls out where the whole town goes because I was worried that Riley would need a potty.
dance006.jpg

Here are the kiddos in the field behind Price Chopper. My friends kids are so tiny. They are like miniature people! She actually has an 8 year old boy and a 6 mos. old little girl who aren't in the picture too. She's a much better person than I am!

We had a great time and my friend and I got to sit and talk while Riley played big girl and took care of the little kids. It was just the thing I needed!

Happy Independence Day!

My kids are wishing you guys a happy Fourth of July! - (they're being firecrackers. . . )

Everyone have a great day and stay safe!

That picture is soooo cute!

I finally finished something for The Big Give 2.

This is Carla C's bowling shirt pattern. I'm really thrilled with how well this pattern came out. I love that it is lined. I also have cut out a pair of matching shorts out of the Nemo fabric. Do you think that the cargo pockets should be blue or orange?
th_P1000161-1.jpg

Great job! I"m sure Logan will love it!

I made a bowling shirt today too. For my tomboy DD(5). She loves lizards so I thought this would be perfect for AK. I was hoping the placket makes it a bit feminine and the buttons almost look like flowers. I think I have enough of the lizard fabric to make one for my DS(7). I just need to find a good masculine contrast fabric for him.
th_DSC04389.jpg

That looks great! I love those fabrics.

I also made another A-line (and I've got a few more in mind too  ). I've been thinking about this one for a while. I had thought about doing a roundneck but was afraid it wouldn't fit my DD perfectly and I'd be disappointed. I'm pretty happy with how this came out. My DD(9) will wear this to Chef Mickey's when my DD(5) wears her Mickey Mouse Clubhouse skirt. I also have plans to make my DS(7) a bowling shirt for Chef Mickey's.

I can't decide if I like the daisy buttons. I think I might like black & white better.

Oh and here is what I did to make it. I used the Simply Sweet top pattern to use as a guide for were to cut the A-line pattern for an empire waist.

Instead of cutting the front & back on the fold I used a rotary cutter and ruler to add a 1/4 inch to that edge of the pattern as I cut it with the cutter. I also added the 1/4 to the top of the skirt and bottom of the bodice with the ruler as I cut with the rotary cutter.

Linnette

WOW! Love it all, but the bag is my favorite!

Official "We Love CarlaC" Post:

Hey all, me again! Look what I made this morning!

She got water on the front of the shirt right before I took pictures.

DSC09913_320x480.jpg

It only took me a total of 40 minutes to make it!! That includes cutting out the pieces! I used 2 of my old t-shirts and cut the pattern out of them. I used CarlaC's "All the Rage Raglans" ebook. This is the first time I've ever worked with knits. It wasn't hard at all because the ebook gives some good tips. Plus, this was a heavier knit and it didn't curl up like some lighter weight ones probably would.

I thought we'd take pictures in the bathroom, to change things up a bit! :rotfl:

This one is just for Luke. Tessa thought he'd think she looked cool.

DSC09918_360x480.jpg

Okay, I missed quoting on a lot of cute stuff, but I had to go back and quote this one. Firstly, Tessa looks even more beautiful than usual in these photos. Maybe it is the special "gorgeous bathroom"!

Secondly, Luke was so funny when I showed him these photos, especially the one "just for him" :rotfl: He was seriously way impressed! He got all quiet and smiley. Then he said he wanted to take 2 pictures of his Leapster to show Tessa and he proceeded to show me the "poses" Then he said he wanted to go visit Tessa tomorrow and I told him we could not because it would cost a lot of money and he said "can't we use the money for the bills?" :lmao:

A few pictures from our 4th. Nothing too exciting.

Ohhh, Ahhh...

IMG_1469.jpg

Hope everyones 4th was fantastic!!!

so cute! We had a great 4th. I'll post photos in a bit since all 4 of my kids had some custom attire on them. :rotfl:

My 90 year old grandma has been in the hospital again since Thursday. They just diagnosed her with congestive heart failure. My grandpa lived with this for quite a few years. But, we're really worried about her. She's been so healthy up until a few months ago. I know she's 90 years old and she's lived a full life and all that. But, if you could say a little prayer for my grandma (her name's Bethel), I'd really appreciate it. :grouphug:

 Prayers for grandma. My brother used to live in a town named Bethel! (Alaska).

We don't get to do much for entertainment lately with a sick kid for months and months so I decided that yesterday we were going to go get some junk food! 6 mos. ago this wouldn't have been such a big deal, but we are trying to help Riley's issues by eliminating some of the ingredients in food that can be irritating to a bladder. We have taken out HFCS, anything with food dyes, any other artificial sweeteners, any hydrogenated oils, lots of certain preservatives, caffeine, and lots of other stuff. Going to the grocery store has turned into a scavenger hunt for me!

So yesterday we drank real soda, ate a candybar, chocolate krispy creme donuts, and ate cheetos with our lunch. We all felt like we were living pretty wild!!!!!

So today Drew is telling me how she is about to barf and Riley has spent most of the morning on the potty. Oops! So much for being wild girls. We just don't have the tummies for it anymore.:scared:

I myself feel like this!
dance005.jpg

I think we are all going to have to spend a little extra time on the wii fit and the treadmill today!

Just for fun I wanted to show you guys the girls in their dance recita costumes. The pictures aren't great because I had to be backstage and Chris took them and obviously photography isn't a great skill of his!

This is "Sea Cruise" from finding nemo dance. I love that they get up there and forget what they are supposed to be doing!
dance002-1.jpg

This dance is "splish splash." This costume was so ugly it was cute. The skirt is long fringe! The girls loved that.
dance.jpg

Riley's dance to "It's Raining Men." Riley fell back in love with dance this year. She went even on the days she was feeling awful. It was really great to have something that she loved doing during the last tough months. She is doing a competitive team next year!
dance003.jpg

This is her "Lowrider" dance. It was pretty cute watching all of these pampered little girls trying to act all tough for this dance!
dance008.jpg

After! It's amazing how stressfull a child's recital can be.
dance011.jpg

This one is just because I love how happy Riley looks in it. I took it on the beach at Coney Island last month. Thanks everyone who is keeping her in their prayers!

Here is the back of the shirt.
P1000156-1.jpg

I will get my 4yo DS Jack to model in the morning when he is awake.

I am also going to make a bowling shirt for Hannah out of these fabrics. I love having the chance to sew with pink! I only have boys to sew for so this is fun.
P1000157-1.jpg

I love that shirt! I say go for it and make each pocket a different color!!!!!! There is no such thing as subtle in boutique.

Here are lots of photos from our 4th. We had a BBQ at my sister's house with her family, my other sister and her family, my nephew and his new wife, and another nephew, his wife and 3 kids. We did fireworks there also and I just have to say    because I was worried our puppy would be scared of fireworks but she was totally fine and happy! I made Lily's dress, Jayden's shirt, Luke's shorts, and Seth's guitar applique shirt.

I added some 4th of July Fireworks pics (taken July 3rd!)

Cute cute! They all look so happy. :goodvibes

I just started sewing the end of last July early August. Here is my very first top. And 2 I've done recently. (Kinda funny they are the same style?
Wow she has grown soo much in just a year! Your skills have too you are giving me hope! :goodvibes

Here are some better pictures of the detail on the guitar shirt! I don't think I ever posted these after my super cool and talented nephew did them for me! This may not even be the top that was mentioned, but just in case anyone was interested in seeing it close up. This is maybe one of Drew's favorite things I have ever made her!
th_d.jpg

Love this shirt and it was the one at least I was thinking of to match lol.

Actually I'm in Canada and our holiday is July 1st. I was kinda hoping for a Canada Day baby! But we're going to bring him to Cape Cod next year for his b-day (we have relatives that live in Boston & Cape Cod). Imagine fireworks on your b-day!

Fireworks on your bday are a good thing. :goodvibes

just finished this for DS

I like the idea of one blue and one orange but that is me. Her shirt is going to be soo cute! OK ladies what size does that shirt go up to? Is there a good one that could find for DH? He actually said he would wear something like that and I feel out. I am excited to try and sew for him! And want to do it before he changes his mind lol.:rotfl:

I made a bowling shirt today too. For my tomboy DD(5). She loves lizards so I thought this would be perfect for AK. I was hoping the placket makes it a bit feminine and the buttons almost look like flowers. I think I have enough of the lizard fabric to make one for my DS(7). So sweet! I love the colors they are great!

This may be a silly question, but where do ya'll get the applique's from? Are they just cut outs of fabric, are they painted on?? I am a newbie to sewing but would love to make my DD some of these cute outfits for our next trip!
All teh appliques I have made (not a lot) are cut outs of fabric that I traced from coloring pages. Then my first go at them I used slick paint to outline. Then later went to sewing.

Sorry not sure why they were so big!
I also made another A-line (and I've got a few more in mind too  ). I've been thinking about this one for a while. I felt like a miserable failure after I made some disasterous overall-ish pants for my nephew when he was a baby (and I was 17). They finally fit him now, 15 years later. Teresa has a hilarious picture of him wearing them, but I can't find it.

I decided to take the plunge into sewing after my sister showed me this wonderful thread. Last July (I thought it was in June, but it was exactly a year ago today!!) I made these 2 outfits for Lydia and Tessa.

This is my favorite outfit I've made to date. I finished it in January.

I love this thread and the people who post here. It's been such a wonderful year with you all!!! Happy anniversary!

Wow your skills have progressed so much too! And wow look at her grow. :goodvibes Such a cutie!

Ok well I am glad to see you feeling better. At least I am hoping you are considering how much you got done! But you do know you make me feel like a failure becuase if I get one thing done in a month I think that I am doing well. :rotfl: Seriously though you amaze me! I love this fabric though ! I really like the tops too! :goodvibes

Morning/afternoon all. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday yesterday and are enjoying a relaxing day today. I love seeing all the photos but I feel bad again that I didn't make anything special for Zoe to wear. She mentioned wanting a July 4th Minnie tee but that was yesterday morning and I had to explain that mommy needs just a little more advance notice. LOL Luckily she didn't know I'd finished the Jasmine tee so I was able to bring that out as a replacement... so she was happy.

Anyway, I didn't click to quote people but I did want to respond to a few posts at least.

Denise (mytwotinks), I am so sorry Riley is still suffering and her medical care providers still aren't really listening to you when you're trying to let them know what works and what doesn't. I can only imagine the frustration and anger that would cause.

ms_mckenna, I'm sorry your adoption plans ended as they did. I can totally understand not wanting to try again and risk the same heartache but I'm glad the new little prince has found a home with your family even if for a short time.

Heather and Teresa, I'll keep your grandmother in my thoughts.

So I tried to make my daughter a fully gathered top and didn't do it right. I wanted to have it very full like this one. How many times her waist should I use in fabric. The top portion was made from a store bought "pattern". And I just winged the bottom half. The top was 25 inches around and so I made my strip to gather 2x that. It wasn't enough though. I used the ruffler (which OMG I love that so thank you to all of you who talk about it because I have never heard of it until here:yay: :yay: :yay: )
I don't even have shoulder straps to try it on her properly yet, but I am trying to get it right before I use the disney fabric.

I tried to crop the picture to put on here but was unable to figure out how to. I kept wanting to be the entire picture. Thank you for any help you may offer, Valerie

I want to make an adult costume for MNSSHP. I have found a vintage pattern for a cave woman that off should but it is missing the curved bust.

Could you please help me find a very close pattern or instructions? I am an intermediate skills person.

Thank you!

I used to be able to do this type of "skirt" using 1 yard of fabric. I'd cut the fabric in half and sew the pieces end to end. DD's too tall to do that now!! So I'd say for a pretty full skirt use 60 - 72 inches for the "skirt" Hope this helps!! I made this top like that.

Thank you for your help. My thing was for sure only 50 so that would make a big differnce. And my dd is only 3 so I will have plenty to do that because the one I made was at like 13 inches or so of a drop and it was too long for what I want. So thank you again!!!

I am a little late getting online. I've been altering a pattern and
CASEing an earlier post. I hope to post photos later. Hope Riley is feeling better some. Thanks again for the guitar closeup. It's on my to do list.

Just wondering if anyone sells their items please PM me as I am not a sewer or crafty person. Thanks so much and awesome work everyone!:thumbsup2

Hi all! Hope everyone had a great 4th! We did the parade wa a blast...DD was so excited because people were yelling that they loved her drew...okay...made me feel good too!!!

Today I went to do some shopping with my parents before they went back home and I met mommyof2princesses !!! It was really funny because we pulled into the parking lot at the same time in the same area...this is weird because it is a HUGE parking lot! Now that I think of it...I really am not sure how that happened...other than I was heading for the Disney store where she works.

Here is our proof...
