package reservation and dining reservation - independent?

I need advise/help.

I have package reservation - resort and tickets included. At same time, I made dining reservations for several places, and they are now linked to my package reservation.

We are planning to change package reservation to room-only reservation. The Disney website is not allowing to "change" it. It looks like I need to cancel my package reservation and create new reservation for room-only. I am wondering that my dining reservation will be canceled by canceling package reservation, which is linked and possibly considered as "main reservation".

Does anyone have experience or know how to work this? In another word, can I keep dining reservation by canceling package, then create new room-only reservation then link those dining reservation?

Your dining reservations are actually linked to your MDE account, not your package. And yes, you will need to cancel your package and book a room only as the 2 types of reservations use different systems. You'll also have to pay a new deposit for your room only and then get refunded for the package deposit. Your dining reservations will not be affected.
