Pack a toaster?

One thing we have done besides bringing our own snacks/breakfast type foods, is purchase "breakfast" at the resort QS and/or in the parks before we leave at night to have in the am. Muffins, pastries, etc. (I know not the most nutritious, but it is vacation and we round out with fruit). You both could pick what you want and it will be waiting in the am! Have a great trip! (Ps-Captain Cooks @ Poly, is one of our favorite QS and a great spot for breakfast if you can fit into your plans)

We always have breakfast in our room. We have an assortment of muffins, cereals, fruit, bagels and cream cheese. My kids do like them untoasted so its not an issue. You could even do oatmeal packets and use the hot water from the coffee maker.

I don't understand why a toaster is any more than a fire hazard than those coffee pots are. Case in point, last week I made coffee in the morning and left the pot on so dh could grab a cup. We got ourselves ready and out of the room by 11 AM. We spent the day in the city and didn't get back to the room until almost 8PM. Turns out dh never did get that cup of coffee and the pot was on the entire time. Housekeeping came while we were getting ready and we told them we didn't need anything so they never came to make up the room after we had left.
The ironic thing is that a toaster wouldn't stay on that long.
A coffeemaker heating element gets to about 200°F. That's all the heat that is needed to brew a pot of coffee. Water boils at 212°F. A toaster heating element reaches 500°-800°F and can go as high as 1100°F in some toasters.

For a point of reference, wood burns at 451°F, as does paper. You can boil water in a paper cup!

In the long run, all that really matters is that Disney doesn't allow the cooking appliances in the regular hotel rooms. And it appears that the OP has gotten a lot of good suggestions for substitutions, including room service (which is very nice at the Poly).

Fire codes distinguish them. From the Shades of Green website (right next to Poly and in the same county so same rules apply)
Amenities: All rooms include refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and in-room safe. Due to fire codes, any additional cooking appliances (such as microwaves) are not allowed in guestrooms.

I realize that it is against fire code to have them, but that doesn't answer the question as to why they are more of a fire hazard than a coffee pot.
Marionette was kind enough to explain, thank you!

Does it really matter? Do you question why a road is a 25 mph instead of 40? The fire code says no cooking appliances. There is a reason for it. Its not like someone will die if they don't have toast in their room.

Yes it matters because I was curious. I'm sorry if my curiosity, or my pointing out that your "answer" to my question wasn't really an answer to what I asked offended you. Geez try to relax.

Personally, I don't see a toaster being that different from a coffee maker, which they provide, so I don't really see it as a huge deal. And I've seen plenty of people mentioning bringing toasters and hot plates and their own coffee makers. (And before everyone jumps all over me, we mostly camp, so technically I bring my whole kitchen with me, but it's perfectly acceptable and I don't fall within this group.) But if you're curious, why not call the hotel and ask?
Because a toaster's heating coil is exposed and any food in it could catch on fire. Not to mention crumbs in the bottom of toasters are notorious for setting off fire alarms. People shouldn't be bringing their own crock pots or hot plates either, but they do it. It's a hotel room, not a single apartment with a kitchen. I don't really want to smell my neighbor's burnt toast or crock of chili in my room if I booked it thinking that the rules against heating appliances would be followed by other guests.

Disney brought me a micro once staying at the yacht club. We needed it to use those as timing bags to clean my son's baby bottles.

It's funny how things change over the years here - remember just a few years ago when there were fridge, coffee maker and toaster swaps at the Values? Everyone was begging to participate in them then, and Disney turned a blind eye to them (they were often stored in the luggage area, so Disney had to be aware). Now someone mentions it and they are pounced on. Oh how times change.

Anyway - we are breakfast in the room eaters. I eat bagels untoasted (I am another one of those odd birds that prefer them that way). DD14 will usually eat cereal. But we've also ventured into the not-so-traditional breakfast foods - nuts, beef jerky, cheese sticks, dried fruit (raisins, apricots, mango), peanut butter in various forms. All of them give you a decent start on the day.

I also allow some splurges on vacation, so we eat stuff we wouldn't normally eat at home. Things like pop tarts have been known to make it into our breakfast routine on vacation - we also eat those untoasted ;) It's vacation after all - breakfast should be fun too!

So Op you can't do this. It's not against just Disney hotel policy its against fire code policy.. I work for hotel and if the fire marshall shows up and randomly picks your room it inspect. They can be fined or the fire inspector can shut down the whole hotel.. if the whole hotel is shut down, every one must leave even employees till the time band and problems has been fixed. Im pretty sure that would never happen at disney unless the marshall want to lose their job.

Really the worst thing that could happen is you start a fire or are asked to leave disney property.

Actually, that's true, I've never done it, but I've been reading up on visiting disney with food allergies for my next visit (DD has multiple) and I've seen it suggested that you can request a microwave. So I'm not thinking a microwave is against fire code.

My guess is it has something to do with who provides they microwave. The guest, they would be held liable for any damage that occurs if a fire starts (possibly even criminal liability). If the hotel provides it, they are liable if it malfunctions.

It's suggested but there's no guarantee that one will be available. It's on a first-come-first-served basis and you cannot reserve one in advance. Just be prepared to use the ones in the food court if you cannot get one for your room.

OP...sorry you must not have known the 'storm' your question would set off here...(rule breaking police) :magnify: Not landing on one side or another but.... I like breakfast in the room, wherever I travel. I also don't eat much breakfast food, I bring along Kind bars, mini travel packs of hummus, and bagged baby carrots, and make use of the fridge provided. My DH likes cereal, so we bring that plus a bowl and spoon, and buy milk as needed. There are lots of little travel foods that are easily packed for a quick breakfast till you get something bigger later in the day.(Skippy peanut butter mini size, and pretzel sticks) an apple, etc.
I have a plug in water kettle also that I have brought to various *different* places around the country while traveling, works like a coffeepot, except it heats just water, and can be used for tea, etc.Again, I would assume a toaster, etc might have the ability to burn, make smells, due to it actually being a cooking element,so that might be an issue-
I am assuming housekeeping checks the rooms as they clean them for any appliances that are forgotten and left on, like a curling or straightening iron (now that item gets hot and could def. cause a fire if left in the wrong place too long)
 One time at Disney my DS brought some fries and a burger back to the room, pulled it out of the fridge later, and used the hairdryer to 'warm' it up before eating!:jumping1:

I would not want guests bringing their own appliances. Where is the quality control if someone brings their old, sparking, fray-wired, pre-fire code, two-prong piece of crap? Sounds like more of a fire hazard than a coffee maker that the hotel provides. Unfortunately, there are too many people with sucky judgment.

Apparently, a toaster is a fire hazard the way my DS uses it, as well as the microwave he burned the popcorn in.
