P90x

I realize that. I'm frequently in the room when it's on.

You said this "Yeah, P90X can make that better, too... " since my dd uses P90X I simply didn't want to hear about that 'benefit'. :rotfl2:

Ohhhh... :lmao:

DH has been seriously considering the P90X but hasn't made the "jump" yet. Do you do the diet part also? Will he be able to walk the next day? He's 47 - thinks he might be too old. He's not working out right now, I would say he's in average shape, pretty active guy.

Thanks for your input!

I'm sick with mono right now and have been for about a month... so no activity whatsoever. I am feeling SUPER out of shape!

I am really interested in trying P90X once I'm feeling better, doing a bit a day and working up to it. It looks really intriguing and I know a lot of people that got GREAT results with it. And it's a lot cheaper than joining a gym!!:thumbsup2

I am 42, will be 43 in a few months. I didn't use it the first time until I was 40, and I was pretty out of shape at the time. That said, I have been pretty athletic most of my life, so I was no stranger to hard work (exercise).

This is great if he is willing to put in the effort. Emphasis on EFFORT. If he is out of shape, the first month is going to be painful. But if he sticks with it, he will be amazed with the results.

I have seen guys who have never worked out transformed by this routine, but I have also seen guys who have been in great shape before walk away because it was "too hard" - they weren't willing to put in the effort during the first month.

As for the diet, the only things that I cut out of my diet during the routine were burgers and fries - completely eliminated them (that was hard). I tried to limit my portion sizes for other things, but didn't go on a real diet (I don't believe in unsustainable diets anyway). I saw amazing results. My wife said that I looked like I was 20 again (sans hair :lmao:)...

I was away from the computer over the weekend so I am just checking in.
I did not follow the P90X diet either. I do try to eat healthful food overall. I give in to pizza every once in a while, especially during football season. I love Mexican food so I do get chips and salsa at times. I also live for my Dove chocolate squares! I usually eat one or two a day. I tell DH that I workout just to have my chocolate! ;)
I have to admit that for the first couple of weeks I was SO SORE! Then it tapered off. Even now, after going through it a full cycle and being in the middle of another, I feel my muscles that next day. They do not kill me like they did at the beginning, but I feel the workout.....especially after plyo!

I have to admit, I am not in the best shape and could stand to lose a few pounds. I started P90X and am now on Day 8. It is hard, but I love it! I can't do pull ups so I use the bands but I am able to keep up with and do everything else. I say go for it!!!!

My DH got the P90X program about a yr ago and he loves it. He does a modified version of the diet, bascially just cutting back on refined carbs and eating more veggies. He loves the work-outs.. I have tried a few of them and like about 2 of them.

We just bought it and may start tonight. We are both out of shape. LOL! But, right now we are focused on weight loss, so we figure that if we only modify a lot and do what we can, and see how we improve, it will help. Wish us luck!!

Good luck! :cool1:
Please update and tell us what you think of it. Just remember.....do your best and forget the rest! Do what you can do; don't worry about keeping up with them at the beginning. If you keep trying each day, pushing play, you will eventually get to where you can follow them the whole time. Well, there are still times that I have to hit pause on plyo days! That video will kill you! I hate it but I love it! :thumbsup2;)

OK, now I'm intrigued! What if I don't have a chin up bar? I have about 10 pounds that I would like to lose. I'm pretty active. I've been doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shread. I need something new. Does this have just cardio? I'm not looking to have a 6 pack or anything like that :lmao:

Dh and I are starting Turbo Jam and he has borrowed P90X from a friend to see if he likes it. We'll buy it if it's something we'll like.

No, it is way more than just cardio. The full 90 day workout cycle incorporates the idea of muscle confusion so each day you are working a different muscle group, with cardio, yoga, and core mixed in too. It is cardio and muscle training.
You do not have to have a chin up bar; you can use bands instead. However, the iron gym bar is a good bar to consider purchasing because it does not have to be bolted in to one spot. http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Gym-Total-Upper-Workout/dp/B001EJMS6K DH bought me the bar from P90X. We had to bolt it in, though. I can do a few (under 10) pull ups with a chair, and then I have to move to the band.

We purchased p90x but we haven't started it yet. We started with P90 which they recommend starting with. P90 is such a ***** I'm terrified of moving onto P90X but I suppose once I master P90 I'll be ready for a bigger challenge. I just yelled at Tony this morning "F your chair dips!" hahahahaha

Hi everyone! So I just started the 90 day P90X yesterday which puts me at the 90 day mark by June 1. I did the P90 last year and lost 25lbs and kept 20 off even though I did nothing but small patches here and there since last June. Yesterday I pulled out my DH's kit for P90X because summer is coming and I WANT A BEACH BODY! Well, I probably won't be the Sports Illustrated pre kids version, but I will be better than now.

The reason I gave it a try was that I did watch the Infomercial and even though watching DH do the full throttle version intimidated me (he lost 45 lbs and looks amazing, like he's in his 20's) the guy on TV said he wasn't able t do all of it and STILL lost weight. So giving myself permission to go slower made yesterday doable.

Just like with the P90 I go at my own pace. I did everything 10 reps instead of the 30 the people in the video do. I am working with 5 lb weights and the green baby strength bands and instead of doing the pull-ups I did the band version with the band thrown around my DH's pull up bar :rotfl:.. the real bar sort of mocks me but I'll get there eventually, maybe. I don't want manly shoulders and ripped, I like being a soft girl, I just want to be smaller KWIM. Of course I am positive I am doing 1/2 of the stuff wrong but I am still going to give it a go. ALso, I did not do the ABS thing yesterday. After the main part I had enough. Baby steps are ok in my world.

Personally I also like using My fitness pal because recording my food keeps me mindful of my choices. From yesterday to today I lost 1/2 lb, which is exactly what I was doing on the reg P90 ut I was able to eat a lot more. I'm only 5'1" so I just can't eat as much as they say I should. To lose weight I normally have to hover in the 500 calorie range which means lots of salads with chicken, veggie based soups and fish, almost no carbs with most of my fats coming from the meats I eat. But yesterday I was able to eat an entire Porterhouse Steak for dinner with a chicken breast for lunch and STILL lost weight.

If anyone wants to start with me and start up a thread let me know. My ticker is going back up. Wish me luck!

Hey, my band is wrapped around my chin up bar too. I use the bar with the chair for the few that I can do, then I switch to my band.

Good luck! :cool1:

Thanks!! Our start has been delayed due to unexpectedly, having to go out of town for DH's job. We are going to take the videos and stuff with us, just in case. I'll let you know when we get going!!

Congrats! Keep us posted. And, wouldn't your 2/1 start put your 90 day point at MAY 1st?????

LOL Diva, you are absolutely right! What a goofball i am sometimes:upsidedow Thanks TLHB, I need all the encouragement I can get.

So I did day 2, well as much as I could keep up. I did everything, just no where near as fast or as many. I do 10 of everything at 1/2 the time and some stuff I can only do 4 of. Those criss cross things with the one foot hop were pathetic and I never played sports so the baseball throw one was all off, never mind the dive bomb thing :rolleyes1 STILL, when I pulled off my DH's heart monitor that calculates calories burned I was at nearly 1200! I couldn't believe it! To make things more surprising I am not at all as achy as I thought I would be, but remember I am not pushing myself to hurt myself. I feel it when my heart rate gets above 156 so I slow down and lightly bounce around in place until I feel like I can go ahead.

Yesterday I felt a tiny pull in my shoulders from the arm stuff and today I feel a little soreness around my knees from all the jumping, but not my actual knees mind you- jut the circular muscles around them and I only feel that when I'm going up or down stairs

Today I do chest and arms, well maybe in about 4-6 hours from now I'll do it.

The think I like most about this regimen is that Tony Horton throws so many variations out there for me to do I never stop to consider if I want to do it, I just go along. Also, just when I don't want to do anymore he throws something in easier which keeps me engaged, KWIM.

PS_ I had a full check-up before this including a stress test and got the ok from my Dr. Also, my inhaler has helped me immeasurably. All these years I must have had Asthma and didn't know it, I just assumed I was out of shape but I was wrong. It's unbelievable how much easier physical activity is when I can breathe. A dose of inhaler 45 minutes before exercise has been a huge improvement.

WOW!!!!!!!! 1200 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never had my heart monitor show that many!!!!!!!!!! Plyo days usually hit around 700 -750 burned. That is the most of any day.
I know exactly what you mean about Tony and the reps and lighter stuff mixed in. I am always so happy when I hit the military march on plyo days. That seems to be the perfect place for me.

Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2
