P20 suncream - fyi

Hi,

I had heard about P20 from this forum but thought it was quite awkward to get hold off ie internet or little chemists. Well just to let you all know that I managed to pick up some in Superdrug (hurrah!!!!!) . Just walked in and there it was right by the door!! It was £22.95 for 200ml and £11.95 for 100ml.

Thanks for the heads up. Mum tried Boots today for it but they don't stock it - it sounds great!

You can now get the smaller 100ml bottles of P20 in ASDA it's about £10.95. If your flying out of Manchester, it's worth bearing in mind that the Duty Free has a huge P20 stand at slightly reduced prices than the likes of Superdrug or Fenwicks ect. About £17.95 for the big bottles. Best £17.95 I have ever spent. I burn really really easily and have ruined many a holiday by frazzerling my shoulders!! One 200ml bottle lasted the whole of my 2 week holiday and I was in and out of the pool all the time. It's fantastic for kids too, as you don't have the perpetual fight to try and re-apply sticky creams. Have you tried to put cheep thick factor 30+ on a 3 year old !!! I think the manufacturers "Riemann" have a website you can buy from but I've not hunted it out yet

Not heard of this suncream before - P20 - could someone explain to little ole me what it is cos I like strong stuff (both DD and I burn first day out and especially since we're off to the Maldives for Xmas might be better than my normal one ).

This, to my mind, is a fantastic suncream that is meant to keep out the harmful rays but does actually let you tan (if you tan LOL). Basically you apply it at least one hour before going out in the sun, which means you have to get up that bit earlier than you would which can be a pain, but the good news is that you don't have to apply it again for the rest of the day no matter how hot it is or how much swimming you do. Having 2 children and personally hating the rigmorole of applying sun cream I find this reason alone to love this cream but also I have been using it now for the past two years and have found it great for letting me get a bit of colour which I never get as being fair skinned I tended to use Factor 30 and also I suffer from prickly heat and it has helped greatly in reducing that and its effects.

I wouldn't use any other cream for our family now.

As mentioned above you can now buy it in Asda.

It is very good stuff. I used to burn badly but have used this now for the last couple of years since I was recommended it here on the Dis, well the old Dis anyway...

I have recently spotted it in Waitrose, so it looks like the fame is spreading, not just Superdrug anymore ( shoosh, don't tell everyone )

Laura - Not spotted it in Walmart but not really looked, I'll have a look when i'm there at the end of the month.

another vote for p20 my other half burns for fun even with very high factor lotion on, this stuff has meant that he can actually sit in the sun where as before we had to take a sun brolley on the beach with us...the only problem is is getting him up early to get the lotion on the hour before we have to go out.....shall have to set the clock for ward when we go to wdw...)

We have used this cream on holiday in menorca. It didn't work for us. We also found it stained some clothes quite badly

This works for my husband who is fair (always sits in the shade anyway), but not for me (who's olive skinned). Going to try something different this year.

On our P20 bottle it says to apply 90 minutes before, and it is recommended that children have a second coat. This has never been a problem for us as we usually eat breakfast out, so by the time we've had showers, breakfast etc we're ready to hit the sun. Never had a problem with staining either in the last 10 years or so.

Everyone is different so you just have to try different ones out and see what suits.

I've not used this product but I found the link very interesting. The suncream I use most often is Banana boat which advertised itself to be PABA free. It makes me wonder why one product is promoted as good because it contains PABA and another good because it doesn't?

Just to let any interested party know that I bought my P20 from a cheap chemist called Savers today for only £18.49. It cost another £3.50 at Superdrug next door!
I'm still a little concerned that it only has a SPF 20, surely a higher factor is recommended for kids?

Anyway, we'll give it a go, as I think the main reason my DD and I burn is because we miss some areas and can't be bothered to reapply.

We tried P20 last year for our DD but she had some sort of reaction to it making her come out in a rash similar to heat rash. Normally her skin is fine with anything so I'm not a big fan of P20 - bit messy to put on too.

Has anyone ever tried Proderm Sun Mousse? - fabulous stuff which lasts for 6 hours and doesn't come off with water, sand, rubbing etc. We have used this for the last couple of years and saves all the re-creaming during the day - just reapply at lunchtime and off you go. Sainsburys still sell this (we got it originally in Boots) and it's on offer in our local store - £5.99 I think.

Proderm is available in the US - got some 8 hour Sun & Surf version at Walgreens in December - $9.99 (if I remember right). Going to use it this year but reckon it will be as good.

Another one I found - just using a search engine - is ProSport 8 hour sunscreen - once again waterproof etc. Used it last year too and no problems. The link is www.sunblocks.com - great quick service. PABA free, UVA/UVB, Oil free, water based, sand doesn't stick, won't sweat into eyes etc.

Either product is worth a try for those who forget to cream or kids who hate the experience!!
