Oy vey

97% Jewish population in town... heard all the time.

The other day I told my students to sit on their tukkcus (spelling?) . The looked at me like I had three heads... then I explained it to them and then they understood.

Hear it and use it (and I'm not Jewish). Another very common one if you are Italian (or surrounded by them ;)) is ma'rone! (sp?)

I was the only Gentile among my HS friends so yes...Oy Vey is a part of my lexicon!

Oy, I was the only gentile in my class from kindergarten till high school. They nicknamed me Robinowitz so I could take the Jewish holidays off with them. Oy VEY and oy gevalt!!!

Madone de mia - we say this all the time. It's like saying Oh my God! We also say ashpet - wait a second!

I had never heard this term until I started to hang around the Dis boards, Is this a common saying where you are from?

Yes. It's a very common expression but I'm from NY.

LOL. I'm African american and heard it just as much in Harlem as I did any where else. ;)

:rotfl:

Yes. I'm from South Florida.

I've heard of the phrase, but I've never heard anyone say it in real life.
