Question if I have 100 point in BCV and 100 points in SRR can I book the 11 months out using all the 200 points at BCV. Or do I have to book using only the 100 points and go cash for the rest. And at the 7 month date can I than change the 100 cash setup to use the 100 points from SRR? Or doesn't it matter where the points are at as long as you have some at the home resort to get your booking 11 months out?

As you can see I am getting ready to purchase points and wondering if it would be a advantage to have points in different resorts than all in one.

Welcome!

You can only book at the 11 month window with the 100 pts at the resort that you own at and then at the 7 month window you can use the other 100 pts.

Buy where you want to stay.

Good Luck

I love more than one resort so was trying to figure out a way to get the "home" advantage if I had few points from each one I like. Don't want to try and bet the system just that I like to plan ahead (yes I am one of those) and that 11 month window at places like the BWV and BCV would give me peace of mind when I plan our vacations. I have 2 sons and their families to work around so the soonest I can lock in dates the better it works for all of us.

Hi Judy,
One thing you can do is use banking/borrowing to get your 200 points for each of your home resorts. For example, in 2006, you can use your 2006 BCV points and borrow 100 points from your BCV 2007 account to give you a total of 200 points to use for a 2006 vacation.

At the same time, you could bank your 2006 SSR points and use them in 2007, along with your regular 2007 SSR points, giving you 200 SSR points to use in 2007. This way you can alternate your favorite resorts without having to worry about the 7 month window.

For me, it sounds like too much to keep track of, but I have read of many people doing it that way! If you don't mind the banking and borrowing, it is an option that might work for you.

To answer your question about switching a cash reservation to points, it unfortunately cannot be done that way. Cash rooms and rooms on points come from different inventories, and cannot be used as a way to secure a room until the 7 month window opens up.

Good luck with your decision! :wizard:

That's the way I handle my contracts, banking/borrowing to get double the points on each contract. One caution, though, is that this method takes a lot more bookkeeping than just owning one contract at one resort. You will need to make very specific notes, and keep a notebook, so that you don't end up losing track of your points. You will also use your notes to keep up with MS, who sometimes "loses" some of your points when you have more than one home resort.

We own at OKW and BWV. We do the banking /borrowing exercise. Because we use the resorts for different types of annual/ biannual trips it is easier to keep track. We take the whole family (20) to OKW every other year. DH and I do solo or smaller family trips every year at BWV.The new DVC member site makes it even easier to see what resort has what points.

Cruella is right, you'll need to keep good track.

I was going to mention that the DVC member website http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/regist...rect=/dvc/member/memberHome?id=memberHomePage is now much more helpful in keeping track of individual contracts and point usage. We're in the process of doing an add-on at a different resort, and the website already has our points up for each account and is tracking them separately. There's also a list of every transaction - reservations, cancellations, and changes - that we've made, as well as all dues, payments, etc. for each contract. It's really cool, and has enabled me to give up my many charts, notes, and little slips of papers full of point usage projections lol. Now all we have to do is go to the website, and voila, it's all there!

Re: bookkeeping, we always talk about owning at multiple resorts in terms of round numbers, i.e., if you own 50 points at Resort A then through banking and borrowing you could have 100 points to use every other year or 150 to use every three years. The problem is, your vacations are not going to require exactly 100 points or 150 points, so you will always have some points left over that you need to track. Also, if you decide to stay at a resort that you do not own, you have to decide whether to use your Resort A points or your Resort B points or some of each, and that requires you to look ahead a year or two.

I'm still new to owning two resorts so I set up a spreadsheet going out a few years into the future to track my points so I know exactly how many points I have to work with and which points to draw from for trips at a non-home resort.

There are a number of methods using multiple contracts and or multiple home resorts over just banking and borrowing to aggregate points. Most other options include some variation (there are many) about booking at home resort A at 11 months then changing over to home resort B at 7 months out, possibly day by day. At the same time, booking home resort B at 11 months with the points you have available.

So then for my case I would be better off adding on more SSR pts? as getting VWL resale for 50pts will get me a few days 11 months out but will be taking a gamble on the whole 2 weeks at the 7months

Where as if I do 250 pts at ssr I can book the whole stay at 11 months at SSR then have a better and less confusing try at move to another resort?

I fully believe in buying where you want to stay, Its just at 25yrs old the length of the membership was more appealing.

On the other hand...I can wait and pray for AKL to go DVC and buy another contract for 200pts???!!!!

AARRGGHH!!!!!.......Decisions, the Disney way!!!!!

One could look at it that way but I'd take the other approach. VWL points will likely get you anything at SSR most any time 7 months out. Even only 50 points will give you an in for VWL. Lets say you had 200 SSR points and 50 VWL and needed a 1 BR and wanted to stay for 12 days with one weekend in early Dec. You could use just a few banked or borrowed points and book 3-5 nights using VWL points and the rest at 11 months at SSR. Then at 7 months out, you could call day by day and change over to VWL. Worst case scenario would be you had to move resorts during your stay, something I'd actually prefer for a 12-14 night stay. There are many variables to this approach to fit your individual needs.
