Owner's Locker

We jumped on board yesterday and will use it first time in July. Should we have gotten something via email?

I had read about this service awhile back and was on the fence about it. After reading the reviews and different uses here and then the Mouse Savers special offer I decided to give it a try and signed up today. I am already getting excited to make a list of things I need for it. :cool1:

Question for those who have it: The first time you filled it up did you ship a box down or just pack it all up in your luggage?

Thanks DIS'ers and Mouse Savers for another great tip/deal!

There's something about having a locker with all your Disney stuff ready for you that just makes you feel more like you really "own" a place at WDW. Our locker is crammed with stuff that I used to have to pack and bring down with me every time we went - now it's all just waiting for us at check-in.

Plus the guys who own Owner's Locker are as nice as they can be - completely professional and totally dedicated to making this a fun, dependable, indispensible service. We can't say enough nice things about this company!

I couldn't agree more. I've used my Owners Locker for my last two trips, and I can't believe how much I love it. It's so comforting to not have to worry about "Did I pack (insert word here)?" Everything I bring on all trips (toilitries, etc.) is already down there, and it really takes the stress out of packing. Plus, Brian and John are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Two thumbs up for Owners Locker!

Thanks for the great comments. Owner's Locker has been more that five years in the planning to make sure we could be proud of how it works and it's so exciting to see that it really does work and people like it. And it's a dream come true to see people like our friends here at The DIS give us the thumbs up.

3disneykids, if we have learned anything, it's that we can't predict how or if Owner's Locker will work for different people. Everyone has to look at it through their own eyes. So what we do is offer people a free trial. Give us a whirl and if you don't like OL for any reason whatsoever, we'll give you every penny back. I'm sure we'll find people who don't like us...but we haven't so far.
John

Alright John, with this you sold me! I will sign up today! Looking forward to working with you! :goodvibes

I really can't imagine storing bottled water. First, what does a case cost - $5 at the very most? Hardly worth the cost/effort of putting it into storage. For the person asking about "expiration" on bottled water - it's about as important as the "expiration" on soda...just a marketing ploy of some brilliant MBAs at the beverage companies. I don't know about others, but when I was growing up, 30 or 40 years ago, we didn't have expiration dates on soda or other non-perishables, and nobody every got sick from drinking from a can/bottle that had been in the pantry for a year or two. I had to laugh once while at a cafeteria someone in line ahead of me was pointing out to the cashier that the soda he was purchasing had passed the expiration date. Too funny.

Don't be so quick on the water issue. We have known more than one family to use "old" bottled water and in each case the whole family got a bad case of "the runs" (sorry to be gross so early in the morning!). And here in Maine, after Y2K (when lots of folks had been stockpiling water expecting the end of the world), there was a huge outbreak of problems from folks drinking water that was well past expiration. Does this mean it will happen every time with every expired water? Of course not. My only point is that it has been known to happen.

As for soda...which is chock full of perservatives...I have no clue on that one.

We did it various ways. The first time we stopped at a Super Wal-Mart and picked up some supplies. After that we either stopped at Publix and picked up some things, or checked a bag. But now our locker is full to the point of exploding.

And folks have started decorating their lockers too.

Being that we generally visit home twice a year, this is why I can't see it making sense for us. After we land in Orlando, first stop on the way to DVC is Publix. In 30 minutes we have everything we need. At the end of our trip, whatever we don't use gets packed and comes home, or gets thrown away.

We're down about twice a year also and that makes it perfect for us.
- I don't want to pack a bag of "stuff" and bring it down
- I don't want to have to bring all the "stuff" back that we picked up at Publix
- I HATE to throw out perfectly good sundries because we didn't use them up and , again, I don't want to drag it all home
- there are things we ONLY need in Orlando (flip flops, moleskin, coffee filters, aloe gel) and the Locker is the perfect place to keep them
- there are things we need, have at home, and have to buy AGAIN at Publix because we forgot them or don't want to drag them back and forth. Or we do without them. These include salt & pepper, baggies or plastic wrap, a vase for flowers, band aids, antibiotic cream, shower sponge... the list goes on

We brought a few things down the first time we used the Locker, but mostly I made a list and we made a run to Publix. We used to do that every year and there were ALWAYS things we forgot and had to make a 2nd run to the market ("mom, do you have a band aid?" "how come there's no salt in the cupboard?")

The Owners Locker, just like DVC, has made our vacation (particularly for ME, the packer of the necessities) way less like work and way more like a lovely vacation!

I have been told that regular soda has a lifespan of about 1 year. Diet is only about 90 days.

As a beta member as well with two small kids, thought I'd toss in my $.02 on the Owner's Locker.

My boys refer to our OL as the "treasure chest" and can't wait to see what's inside. We store some nice wine glasses, coffee mugs, a Brita filter for the faucet (along with some pliers), toiletries, etc. Adult beverages store well too (Bombay, anyone?)!

We typically go for a week at DVC around Xmas, so some Xmas toys/lights stay there too. Maybe even a new toy or 2 for the kids.

The "extra" luggage we used to travel with every time was always close to the overweight limit at the airport -- reason alone to leave the stuff there, IMO. I did the "re-pack" thing at the ticket counter once and that was the last time. One $50 charge for an over 50lb bag makes this deal worth it alone!

Love the idea and the execution -- from my view they do an excellent job.

Our absolutely all time favorite thing in our OL is our COFFEE GRINDER. We just take beans in our suitcase and we have a Brita pitcher in our OL. So we have yummy coffee every day. :goodvibes

DH was given a new electric razor for CHristmas, so his older one is going to stay there permanently, too.

In October, we bought stockings for the kids for our Nov/Dec trip. I was worried they would be spotted in our suitcases, so I just stuck them in the locker and they were there for us when we returned.

Full size shampoo, body wash, lotion, sunblock, coffee filters, 5 pounds of sugar, tea bags for my sister, my mom's fanny pack..you name it, we have it.

Ponchos, Mickey umbrellas, extra discs for our camera in case I forget them. :)

We started out in the very beginning as beta testers. John and Brian are just wonderful and the service is top notch. We didn't know if we would fill ours the first time. After we returned home, we had an email that they added an extra seal on ours because the top was bursting off!!! :rotfl:

five pounds of sugar???

I love the coffee grinder--an excellent example of something you wouldn't carry back and forth--BUT makes you feel more at home!

And the spare shaver. For us, once we bought the PS2, the Play Station 1 went into our Locker..but now it's spare lap tops, spare cameras...and even golf clubs.

great ideas, 2 and 2!
John

Just signed up! We have an Owner's Locker! First trip is scheduled. Now all we have to do is think of all of the things we can put in our new locker. If it wasn't for the Dis, I might not even know about this incredible service.

Thanks Dis!

We love our OL; we had trouble justifying the expense until we actually used it. Like so many others have posted, we store Brita Filter, ponchos, umbrellas, backpack, first aid stuff, toiletries, cell phone charger, some disney only t-shirts, framed pics of our kids and grandkids, baggies......it's a very long list. :) I am a penny-pincher, but the OL is SO WORTH the $$.

five pounds of sugar???

John

:rotfl: It was alot cheaper than getting 1 pound at a time!! Don't worry...it is sealed in a tupperware container that we then use to keep the ground coffee in. ;)

The rate we are going, we will have an entire second household in your warehouse.

Psst...one thing we are REALLY hoping for: STROLLER storage. :yay:
