Owners Locker Oops!

Let's have some fun, AA. How about a $25 Amex gift card for a video of your Locker loading?

:rotfl2: That would be more for the amusement factor than an instructional video, right?! ESPECIALLY if I invited the Captain to help me do it!! :lmao: BTW, I am told that I am QUITE fun when I've been hangin' out with him for awhile! Everybody always imitates that stance from the ads with his hand on his knee when they look at me.:rolleyes1:cool2:

I am glad I tried my "test pack" now to see how stuff fits in my shipping box. (I still have until the 18th before I ship it.) DH really was a hard sell on this whole idea so I know one box is going to be my limit... I had been using an empty plastic storage bin as a start on it and once that was full I started piling stuff on top...thinking that I still had PLENTY of room. I am just really surprised at how full it got. I was just sure I'd still have room for "beverages". I will probably remove the snacks and refillable water bottles & some of the paper plates & plastic silverware etc to make room for "the important stuff"! I have purchased spares of many things to put into the box already and am not looking to put the $ into another Brita pitcher. I think the most expensive item I've stuck in there so far is for one of my miniature folding umbrellas.

When we were there in Jan. I had to sit on my OL to get it to close! I even had to come home with a few things. So, I just added another locker, actually a few minutes ago!:thumbsup2

The record, by the way, is 90 pounds for one Locker. The owners told us (they volunteered at an Owner's Locker EPCOT Wine Evening!) that there was a commercial blender and a LOT of liquor in their Locker. It did gurgle.

FWIW, I wouldn't leave beer in an OL for more than a few weeks. Not that John wouldn't take very good care of it, but beer left sitting for long periods(think months) doesn't usually hold up very well. The other booze should be fine, but anything carbonated will go flat over time.

We got an OL on our last trip down as non-DVC-ers in preparation for our next trip "home". It was really fun trying to squeeze stuff in there, and one of my favorite dreams about the next trip is NOT lugging all that crap through the airport:) :earsboy:

OK all this talk about OLs is getting me so excited. I finally talked my DH into one (we've been DVCers since 2000) and recently ordered our very own OL for our June trip. I plan to take some things with us and hit Walmart once we get there to load it up. I came home the other day from work with a taped together mat (the size of the OL) and laid it on our family room floor and said to my DH and DD - guess what that is?? Our OL!!!!! They both thought I was nuts, but that is just how excited I am. :rotfl:  I wanted to get a picture of how big it is and how much I can fill it with. Mine may be busting at the seams as well and I can't wait!!

I think you may just need to go ahead and plan for that extra locker. I thought we would have enough with just one but once we started fillling it we found more and more to put in it. It's so fun and easy to travel now. I just love OL!!!!!! Can't wait to see ours again in 2 wks!!

That's kind of what I'm thinking to AA - but like Tara I remember going through your other post about getting your hubby to sign up in the first place. On our last trip (first with the OL, I shipped so much stuff ahead of time we ended up bringing stuff home with us that couldn't stay behind in our OL...even with finding a test box that was nearly identical to the size of the OL itself. The OL's aren't straight though, so that plays into the extra space a little bit, but not a great deal. I've also shoved and filled every nook and cranny possible, and like one of the other posters, our Brita is filled to capacity inside like the Potato Heads as well. (I even made sure to buy one that was more oblong shaped and less round so the pitcher by itself wouldn't take up so much room! I'm thinking/debating that we'll need a 2nd one. I'm down there with my sons in about 2 1/2 weeks so I'll know better - planning for our family return in Oct, and then again with my folks in Jan.

(I may just be ordering that 2nd one for our Oct trip John - but don't get too excited just yet :rolleyes1).

Oh my goodness!!! The OL is supposed to reduce stress not have it start before you even leave on vacation....

We are still early in the OL thing but I find that each trip we change what we leave behind. The OL is packed and there are definitely items that stay all the time but you have to set some priorities. If there is liquor left....and it's a big if....that definitely stays. It is nice to have it waiting for you when you arrive the next trip. Some kitchen items, toiletries, medical stuff, glasses for the pool...basically all the stuff that is awkward to pack.

I don't think that we will ever get to the stage where we only travel with a carry on...maybe...but it will require a second OL. For now we just enjoy not having to pack all the awkward, heavy stuff (sorry John !)

:goodvibes One box peeps! One box is aaalllll I'm gonna get!!! I have a 3 page list of stuff that I'm putting in it and there's probably 120 individually diff. items altogether. I put some 1/2 empties of full-size stuff in that I am going to re-think and put into smaller containers. Like the bottle of rubbing alcohol I put in. I bought a new bottle for home and put my old 3/4 empty in the box. I could dump that into a travel size bottle and just label it to save the space. It certainly doesn't save weight but it would save space. I am going to go thru & re-evaluate some of the diff. size products I put in and downsize a couple things where I can.

I would leave liquor between trips regardless of time inbetween and leftover water & beer if there's only 2 or 3 months inbetween trips and the dates are good for the duration. Like we're going in 2 weeks and again in 2 1/2 mo. after that (mid-August) so for the most part I would think those things would keep...

The other thing I can't wait to use are the packing cube things that someone on here turned me onto!! Thanks much whoever you were!! We will be trying them out in exactly 2 weeks from today!:yay:

:rotfl2: Sounds like me and my "pretend Disney box" that I made!! It took me FOREVER to talk DH into getting one! Once Air Tran started charging for ALL checked bags it became an easier sell!! :thumbsup2 I had an empty plastic bin sitting here already that was slightly smaller than the OL dimensions and I started my OL collection in that. Once it got full I started piling stuff on top figuring I would have the extra room in the actual OL. But I'm now finding out that I'm cutting it awfully close! Have fun planning for it!!

 I just saw how you titled my video! My son is going to get a kick out of the Professor thing!

(I recently said something about OL and then said to my son Alex, "Alex, do you remember what an Owner's Locker is?" and he replied "I think it's 14 inches high." Of course, that's a direct quote from my video, which he had seen weeks before, but for some reason, that's what he remembered!)

Our OL was filled to the brim the first time we used it. I think its OL tradition that you have to sit on it to close it. You do find things to add while at Disney, so it makes it even more challenging. If we have to nix something, paper products and food/beverage items are the first casualties. The locker is very big, but it is amazing how quick the space went. We thought we'd have extra room for a few trips before it filled up, but no.

My DH thought that I was a little nutty with the whole OL concept. Like you, I had a box of items that I shipped down to myself. I actually had so much fun accumulating the things that we would need. When we were there, he saw what a huge convenience it was and yep, we had a second locker when we left. Now he thinks that I am brilliant for finding it! :goodvibes It was soooo much easier to travel with just carry ons. I am already planning on what else to put in that second locker! ;)

DH really was a hard sell on this whole idea so I know one box is going to be my limit...

He may surprise you. My DH was also a hard sell, but after our first trip with our OL, he started thinking we need another one. We haven't got the second one yet, but I'm sure we will.

I feel your pain. Our locker is so F-U-L-L! Every once in a while, I get online and take a peek at what the cost is for a second locker. If they ever discount that cost so it's more like $50-75 per year instead of the full $99 for the second locker, I will probably spring for one. It was hard enough to talk my DH into the first locker, so I'm having a hard time with the second. In the meantime, I guess I need to resort to sitting on the lid like so many have mentioned. :rotfl:
No matter what, we L-O-V-E our OL and it has made our trips to WDW so much nicer!

This is exactly what my wife has been saying, and why I've said I mayget another one in the fall - but we're still not sure. Tiered pricing would be great, but they have a business to run too. So John, since I know you are reading this - we'd love it if you could do something cool for that 2nd locker (or more for some folks), but do understand if you can't.

From one that doesn't have an OL, what exactly are you all storing? We are a family of 5 and non-drinkers. I don't buy bottled water, just do the counter service cup of ice water thing. The OL concept is appealing but I'm not sure what all I'd store. We typically travel once a year with the occasional extra trip every couple of years. I always do laundry while there so laundry detergent would be a must but what else. We do take all our own toiletries (ie. soap, shampoo, etc.) but wouldn't that go bad before you'd use it all if one only went once a year? I tend to not cook while there and would be really apprehensive leaving food. Just looking for what you all use the OL for. Thanks!
