Owners Locker Oops!

I think you may just need to go ahead and plan for that extra locker. I thought we would have enough with just one but once we started fillling it we found more and more to put in it. It's so fun and easy to travel now. I just love OL!!!!!! Can't wait to see ours again in 2 wks!!

i dont think its fair our owners lockers get to stay in florida ,we have to come home , but your right cant wait to see ours at xmas

From one that doesn't have an OL, what exactly are you all storing? We are a family of 5 and non-drinkers. I don't buy bottled water, just do the counter service cup of ice water thing. The OL concept is appealing but I'm not sure what all I'd store. We typically travel once a year with the occasional extra trip every couple of years. I always do laundry while there so laundry detergent would be a must but what else. We do take all our own toiletries (ie. soap, shampoo, etc.) but wouldn't that go bad before you'd use it all if one only went once a year? I tend to not cook while there and would be really apprehensive leaving food. Just looking for what you all use the OL for. Thanks!

My content list is literally 3 pages long! It includes everything from individual toiletries for each of us to a beach / pool bag, goggles & dive toys, a string backpack, misting fans, lanyard & FP holders, sunscreens, a sm. sewing kit, collapsible cooler & "blue ice" for taking to the water parks / pool, rain ponchos & mini umbrellas, Band-aids & some OTC meds like Neosporin, Ibuprofen, Immodium, Benedryl & Tums etc. (I recorded how much of ea. and their exp. dates on my list). I am not really planning to store food unless it's unopened & will keep until we visit again.

We DO drink and booze WILL keep.:rolleyes1 I normally don't do laundry on vacation but I DID put in like 3 loads worth of detergent + a few dryer sheets (just in case). Lots of spare batteries, candles, a couple small flashlights (we travel in the summer too & you never know when severe or tropical storms could knock out the power). Just a lot of the misc. stuff that I always have to remember to pack. Now I won't have to have this huge packing list of stuff that I need to remember to pack and we can hopefully travel more in carry-ons w/o all of the toiletries & stuff. Just clothes & shoes!!:thumbsup2 I CANNOT WAIT!!

There is a pretty extensive list of items on the OL website that I found really helpful. You might look through there and see if it gives you any ideas and help you decide if it is right for you. We went in January and are going again in September. We did leave some non-perishable food items - coffee, tea bags, hot cocoa, individual size jams/jellies & I can't remember what else. My favorite thing in my OL, well the second one ;), is our wonderful soft robes that we bought at the SSR gift shop - sooooooooo cozy comfy! :lovestruc

We store stuff that is repetetive, stuff we would only use at Disney or that takes up too much space in the suitcases. That said, we leave a set of beach towels, flip flops, sunglasses, toiletries, pop up hamper, sunblock, misting fans, waterbottle holders, hats, assorted Disney themed items, rain ponchos, phone & battery chargers, laundry detergent, glow bracelets...the list is endless. Now that said, if we only went down to Disney once a year, I would not bother with an OL, but we go at least twice a year, lately much more than that. It makes it possible to travel with just a carry on or cut down on your luggage substantially.

In addition to a lot of the stuff people list here, we also store things for rainy days or just relaxing in our room: the travel size Disney Scene It game, cards, crayons and markers, a travel Connect 4. DS (age 7) just asked yesterday if we could take our extra set of Star Wars DVDs (we ended up with 2 sets of the original trilogy somehow) to keep in the OL.

Another category is "comforts of home" - as DVC members we know that our future trips will be much less park focused and we'll be enjoying our room more. So I have candles, an inflatable bath pillow for the whirlpool tub, an Airport Express wireless router, power strip, a coffee grinder, a fleece throw. I also have a journal for us to make note of each trip. I figure it'll be a fun keepsake to look through each time.

I am also taking down an extra pair of running shoes (one I don't wear often but are still good) so that I can run in the early mornings but won't have to take up valuable luggage space with big shoes.

My son is a pancake hound, so another thing I have stored is a small electric griddle. Much easier than trying to make 1-2 tiny pancakes in the skillet provided!

(Needless to say, I have 2 lockers!)

How many of you can get by with just one locker? Does it decrease your luggage you take by a lot? My DH is skeptical that one will do it but doesn't want the cost of 2. I'm for trying it to see how it goes.

In our we also have stuff for hanging around the resort like Tara does - cards, markers, drawing paper - and then also things like night lights, laundry detergent & dryer sheets, power strip, candles & matches, bath bombs/bubbles - a small air mattress & sheets for when we stay in a resort that doesn't have bedding for 5 (like we did last time, and will do again this fall)and extras for the kitchen... we have a gridle for pancakes, muffin tin, a brita pitcher, ziploc bags, small waffle iron, non-perishable food items (like packs of microwave popcorn, cooking spray)... there's more - but I don't really remember it all right now. I'd love to be able to leave toiletries, some clothing items behind as well, at least for DW and I, so that we can reduce what we need to take with us, so a 2nd one would be good - but we just have to wait til October to be certain about that (though I'll be sizing it all up when I'm there 3 weeks from tonight to see it all once again).

I hope you candle lovers are only using the candles for emergency lighting and not for "mood lighting". Candles are dangerous and I think Disney asks that you not use them in their properties.

In addition to the many items already mentioned, we have my down pillow (love it), framed pics of kids and grandkids (for that at home feel), binoculars (for AKV), a flat screen computer monitor (yes, gotta do a little work), and 2 keyboards (DH and I both dislike laptop keyboards).
Wow, typing this I'm amazed at how much we are able to fit in one little ole locker. :rotfl:
I think we may need an espresso pot, so that second locker is really starting to sound better and better.

Of course you're absolutely right Deb, any lit flame can be dangerous, especially if left unattended but not to worry about ours - they're just the little tiny tea light kind that DW uses while in the bath herself, inside a special glass holder, next to a large water source for dousing if needed. They're not the big ole easily toppled tapers or anything like that.

Oh yes, definitely the binoculars! I knew there were other things in ours (still are, but you get the idea.

It took me forever to convince DH that OL would be a great deal for us and I know I will be limited to just one locker. We're getting ours brand new on our next trip over Memorial Day (4 nights) and I am shipping a box down to myself with all of the contents (44 Lbs worth)! I am not storing anything BIG like robes or pillows or crockpots. But 44 Lbs is one checked bag alone! By using the packing cubes now I am positive we can go in carry-ons for these shorter trips now that I don't have to also pack a beach/pool bag, spray fans, umbrellas, ponchos, toiletries & sunscreens. We go again in August for a 10 day trip and I imagine we will each have a carry-on plus I am hoping to get by with just one large checked duffle that we will all share.

My incentive to pack lighter is not to have to pay the checked luggage fees of $15 per bag in ea. direction! That notion is driving me nuts! If we each check a bag per trip that's $30 pp x 3 of us = $90 per trip x 2 trips / year = $180. Owners Locker runs $99 / year plus the convenience of not having to pack all this stuff every time so we'll save about $80 if we can stick to carry-ons. Of course if your family is larger then you're looking at an even greater savings!!

:lmao:Mood lighting in a studio with DS around!? NOT!:rotfl2: I am only packing a few tealights for emergency lighting should we ever get stuck down there in a bad storm. We have nosey cats and I've always been paranoid about burning candles at home so I really only use jar candles, votives or tealights and always on a cleared counter.:thumbsup2
