we are taking my Little on her first cruise boarding the Dream on her first birthday next month-

Will she be offered her own meal at dinner or are we expected to share with her off our plates?

Also can anyone confirm they sell cupcakes at the sweet shop Vanelope’s we are stalemated on the cake situation (we want more than a plain cake-husband is a pastry chef) and the free dessert won’t work for her..

I don't know if there any "off menu" items sold a Vanellope's, here's their menu:

As to regular meals, there's a children's menu, or you can talk to your server about specific foods you'd like for her.

Also, be aware that desserts (cakes and otherwise) are fairly basic on cruise ships.

My daughter ordered a cake for husbands birthday in October from the website in the section for "in-room gifts'. She was able to customize it too.
The offer a cute mickey head cake starting at $25 I believe. You must order at least 7 days in advance.

We’ve had it confirmed that the celebration cakes are too basic for our wants no colors/designs available and the mickey one is out as it’s frozen not fresh-

But thanks

They have cupcakes at Vanellope's but, if I recall, they are all Wreck-it-Ralph themed in some way or other.

Curious why the free dessert doesn't work?

Also, the second night at Animators Palate, assuming it's not pirate night, should have a make your own cup cake dessert option on the kids menu. Our kids enjoyed that.

She can order off the children's menu or off the adult's menu. I believe you can also order off the children's menu. In addition, you can order multiple entrees (however, courtesy is that you keep it within reason).

I believe the OP said their little one is having a first birthday. I assumed that the child was turning 1, not that it was a first birthday on a cruise. So the most a one year old will love will be smearing the icing on his/her fingers, but what fun that will be, especially when a little gets in the mouth. I can still remember the grins on my little guys' faces at their first birthdays.

As for what a baby/toddler eats on a cruise... that's a good question. Can your little one eat things like chicken fingers or pasta or burgers if you cut them up into small pieces? Maybe someone here who's travelled with a young child can cite more about their experience.

Looks like fresh purees of vegetables can be ordered from the main dining rooms and room service.

Although at age one they might be into finger foods. When my daughter was younger they were able to make us plain or buttered pasta, sides of mashed potatoes, and veggies. Our servers were great at working with us to figure out what would work and even helped cut up proteins, like chicken.

And, probably, frozen before being put out. I don't think they are actually made onboard.
I would be surprised if they had the room for a baking station in their kitchens. All desserts are likely frozen and then taken out to be served. Except something like a soufflé that cannot be frozen.

When you go to anyone can cook, they go through what they bake in a day onboard and I remember the cookies being in the 1000s maybe 10 thousands so it sounded like they do bake certain items

There is a bakery onboard. Used to have to go there to pick up cookies and cupcakes for anyone can cook in the kids club. It's well hidden deep in crew areas but the smell is amazing!

It is her first birthday and she turns one the day we board (& first cruise)

She eats what we eat for the most part besides spicy/heavily seasoned. One of us orders something she can eat and we share we just weren’t sure if we’d need to do that on the ship or if she’d be offered her own meal (don’t want to assume..) and we both could order whatever we wanted

As for ‘frozen’ cake. We can easily tolerate it for $5ish dollars for a cupcake so she can sample it and throw away the extras- a 30+ dollar cake we’d be more committed to so much pickier..

I love the build your own cupcake idea and have put in a request for Animators to be first on the dining rotation so hopefully it’ll solve our dilemma!

The servers are wonderful and can be very accommodating. If you want to order a certain veggie, fruit, or french fries. They can bring out separate plates for your daughter. No need to share from your plate.

Regardless of what dining room you are actually in, if something is on the menu in another dining room that night they will let you order it. If you do not see the build your own cupcakes, just ask. If it’s possible they will certainly accommodate you.

There is no limit to food, so order what ever you like for her or yourselves you can have 4 steaks and a chicken if you wanted too . There are also many different dessert options including the cake of the day you won’t have any issues finding something for her to enjoy for her special day

I've only been on the Fantasy and haven't been on the Dream yet. I don't know if they offer the build your own cupcake dessert option on the Dream in Animator's Palate as on the Fantasy. Can anyone who's been on the Dream help confirm if they offer that?
