or are prejudiced against them .... HMMM....), physical, sexual, whatever and unless you are incarcerated in the prison I work in...I DON'T CARE. Let it go.
Todd&Copper said:In the Washington Post recently, there was an article about how some people are so lazy that they will rent ECV's at malls rather than walk around. These are not all obese people, and not all people with disabilities - they interviewed a woman who said when she went to Mall of America, she just didn't want to walk all around it, so she rented a scooter.
My uncle has disabilities and needs a scooter if he is going to walk for more than 5 or 10 minutes. Yes, he is obese, but he is also inujured. My aunt, onthe other hand, is just lazy, and has no physical problems other than being fat. She borrows his back-up scooter on an almost daily basis simply b/c she is too lazy to walk.
So, as much as we want to think *all* people in scooters cannot help it, there are exceptions to that rule, and the exceptions are what sour a lot of people to the scooter users. I am not defending what the OP said about people eating junk and making themselves fat or whatever it was he said, but having actually witness the "dark side of scooter abuse" I do know it exisits. I don't make judgements about the strangers I see using scooters, but I do think very poorly of my aunt and that lazy woman at Mall of America, as I am sure most legitimate scooter users would.

I have someone in my family who uses an ECV who is what you and your family may call overweight. Their disabililty may not be overly obvious to you and you know what...that's just fine with us. We don't really worry about wether or not you can tell what the disability is, we worry about wehter or not she will see tomorrow. Has it ever occured to you that some disabilites and the meds to treat them cause unbelievable amounts of weight gain? No, more than likely not and that's okay. That means you are lucky enough not to understand the ravages illness can wreak on the human body. Be grateful for that.

Do you have so little going on in your life that you actually have the time to notice what others are eating in detail, and are still dwelling on it a month later?

CR Resort Fan 4 Life said:I realize some people may flame me for this & I am not posting this to start trouble, I am posting this because it has been on my mind. When I was at WDW last month my family & I saw a lot of what we call overweight people using an ECV. I do realize there are some people that really need it because they can not walk, so I understand that part. What I have a problem is seeing these people at a buffet like the Golden Coral stuffing themselves with Fried Chicken, Pizza, bread dipped in oil, Meat Loaf, Ice Cream & etc. So my family & I said no wonder these people we were so overweight, it's because they eat so much which makes them to tired to walk. Here is another example I saw at the Food & Fun Center. We saw a family where the Mother & Grandmother who were both overweight & were in ECV's. Well they were eating Cheeseburgers with French Fries, Nacho's with Cheese, Chips & for desert Mickey Mouse Cup Cakes. Once again I say no wonder they are overweight & can't walk far. I guess I feel this way because when seeing overweight people in ECV's, stuffing themselves with junk food you don't know who has a real disability caused by an injury, because I have seen posts where people say they got dirty looks because they don't look handicaped. Also back in June 2001, my Uncle at 58 years old who ran marathons, always eat healthy & was not overweight dies of a heart attack, so I think it's unfair that these people who are overweight can keep living like this when a healthy person dies.
So if you want to all flame me go ahead, but this is how I feel.
