Can I overpay my DCL cruise to purposely use the remaining balance as on board credit? Or will I be refunded the diference?

You can call DCL at any time and put a credit on your account. It would then be used as a declining balance once onboard. If you just overpay they may think you made a mistake and refund you.....call and specifically say you want to add OBC to your account. You can also use this form and mail it in or fax it in.

I pay for my cruises with gift cards throughout the year. After I pay of my cruise my reservation goes to Disney and then I call them directly to add OBC via gift cards.

The only catch, if you do not use all the OBC, it goes back to one of the original gift cards I used...so hang on to them.

However, on the cruises we have been on, we have exceeded the OBC, so that wasn't a concern.

That's off topic I suppose, my point is, just call DCL when your cruise is paid off, and add the OBC however you want to. Fast and easy. Nice knowing the money is already there and budgeted for before you ever step aboard.

We paid extra once ... and once only. We had a balance at the end of our cruise of around $600 but it took DCL over 9 weeks to refund it back to me despite many emails and calls from the UK.

It's fine if your credit balance is not very much as waiting is not an issue, but ours was much more than we anticipated it to be (didn't buy the Dooney bags I thought I was going to!). A quick refund would have been very welcome, but it seems that, like every other company in the world, they're quick to take your money but not so quick to refund it! :(

I'm on the phone with DCL right now applying some gift cards to use for OBC. We bought slightly less than what we expect to use so hopefully there is nothing remaining. You always have to keep them in case of refunds though!

Find discounted Disney gift cards (Target gives you 5% off if you use their Red Card) and purchase them. Once onboard, take the GCs to Guest Services and have them apply them to your onboard account. It's quick and easy and the bonus is that you'll save a little money.

I tried over paying online and it won't let you so your only option is to call.

Oh wow! What useful information:

Use discounted gift cards to save money.
Hang onto them incase you don't spend it all.
It may take a long time to see the money back.
Either call and have it prepaid, or wait to prepay in person
Website won't allow you to overpay.

I think that sums it up. Thank you!

Its a nice way of budgeting for the cruise.

I'll figure out how much our excursions are going to cost, money for souvenirs, drinks and photos, spa treatments etc.

I'll then place a bit of OBC each month until I reach the budget tally.

That way I don't gasp when the bill comes at the end of the cruise :lmao: and what we bought is paid for.

If you have a Disney Visa and use the form link above from MJ, that amount qualifies for the 0% interest for 6 months.
