Having just booked our plane tickets to orlando, I would like some advice as we are flying into newark for a overnight stopover. staying at the marriott onsite.

has anyone done a overnight stopover if so how was it?

Do we have to take our bags with us? or do they take the bags for our connecting flight in the morning?

all advice welcome

We had to take collect our bags recheck them so I think you will have to take them with you. It's a pain in the **** as last time we only had 20 mins to do this, and they rushed us through. It's the only airport I've known to do this, every other stop over (Cincinati, Atlanta and Houston) the bags have gone straight through to our destination.

there is another link on this board but it won't let me post just yet (not enough posts) but add these bits together and take out the spaces

we have done this a few years ago, we had an overnight stay in NY followed by 2 weeks in Florida, as we had a lot of luggage we left most of it at the airports left luggage facility, and just took what bags we needed. it costs a few dollars. next afternoon we collected it, checked it in for our flight down- so you have that option or take all your luggage with you and check it in the following day

No US airport allows bags to go straight through if your final destination is another US city. You have to clear customs at your first port of entry.
If you are hubbing through to a non US destination, Canada or Mexico for example, or simply leaving the US, only then can it go straight through.
